You people saying F2P are not worth playing are crazy. I've been playing Eve Online for free since the first month. It only takes about 1 week of gameplay to make enough in game money to pay for a month's subscription. It has some of the best PVP you'd ever experience in an MMO. Not to mention the graphics are amazing. I've also played DDO and LOTRO F2P and looking forward to EQ2 F2P. But if there was one MMO that would be nice to be F2P, I would have to say Planetside. |

None of the above. P2P have a level of polish and depth not found in F2P games. In F2P, the game design is setup to encourage you to make use of its item mall. In P2P, the content is designed for enjoyment so that you continue to pay your subscription. I've played a lot fo different MMOs, and there is a vast, vast gulf between games that utilize the different systems. The new hybrid models are still a wildcard - it's still unclear as to where these games will fall.

. Most have multiple accounts in Eve because it's the only way to get around the boring aspects of that game. . CCP expects you to not always be able to play enough to get a free month so you'll wind up paying at least some of the time. . In short, I don't think CCP is losing any money on Eve. The rage about F2P models is created or snuffed with implementation. I think most would agree that if the price for "premium" content is low, and the items in a game's item shop are not overpriced nor overpowered, that the idea can be positive for games that are aging and could potentially slide into closure status without a boost. I think EQ2 going F2P would be great if Sony, as usual, didn't have it's corporate head up it's corporate ass. Implementing a system that they believe will make more money through cost benefit analysis/market studies/etc will likely blow up in their faces as it has so many times before. EQ2 is going F2P because it no longer attracts new players as is, and is losing it's current playerbase to other games. It needs a new edge to stay profitable. SOE has somehow come to the conclusion that this "new edge" will involve: 1. Separate servers for the "extended" version of the game, which leaves the regular servers with no new players. If you want to move from a susbscription server to a F2P server, it's $35, and you leave most of your stuff and your money behind. If you start playing on a free server, and want to transfer to a subscription server, you're S.O.L. 2. On the "extended" servers, you'll get to level up to 80, on regular servers the cap is 90. Non paying customers can't access the in-game vendor system, and can't use top tier weapons, forcing them to buy the next best weapons from the cash shop. You can get the full version of the game on the extended server, for $20 more than it costs for a regular subscription for a year. 3. On F2P servers, you will have to buy certain classes/races from the cash shop. Obviously, these are part of the standard game on regular servers. Unless you are broke, enjoy playing half of a game, or don't have the time or interest to play through the full game, but have the money to buy what you need, I see no reason to join EQ2 extended. If you're already playing subscription, and aren't changing to a F2P server, you can continue to expect little to no new players. I don't see any of this helping the overall game, but it might boost profit for SOE as long as some interest in F2P holds. And in the end, that's all SOE cares about. Again, using the right formula of F2P can potentially help any struggling game. Using a bad F2P model, however, may very well cause a game to shut down earlier than if the game's developer had done nothing at all. |

Definitely City of Heroes. I like CoH exactly just barely not enough to pay for a full sub. Seems like the cash shop would be pretty easy to set up, too. |

What is there in CoH these days that you could pay separately for? When I played at launch it was such a MMO-lite with nothing really other than character creation, ability enhancements and mission instances (all of which it did very well, mind you). If you have to pay for those basic features then what you getting for free or is there more depth to the game these days? |

You could pay for new story arcs, new zones, new costume pieces (they're already doing this, actually, with the booster packs), ATs similiar to Kheldian/Arachnos, etc. I haven't played much in the past two years, but there is far, far more depth and content than the game originally launched with (I played in beta, and then off and on since then). <3 |

Pay-to-win games are not my cup of tea sorry. I prefer Pay-to-play aka subscription. |

Originally posted by Shadewalker Like Dreamscape said... also whole story lines, there's a whole Time travel area(name escapes me) that has its own missions and also allows you to replay old ones, just one example. Heck, for a completely free player, you could sell CoV, even. For small things... travel power inventions, aura's, power customization... in short, I see tons of things. |

The more you hype an upcoming game in your mind, the more it will fail to meet your expectations. |

Originally posted by Shadewalker CoH already has a bunch of RMT. Just look at the "booster packs" being sold in the NCsoft store that contain exclusive abilities, costume selections, and other such things. They might as well make it F2P and cram even more RMT into the game, since the base game seems so shallow that it doesn't even deserve a monthly sub. |

UO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
