Two reasons why I won't be getting the game anytime soon 1: you can't zoom out, I'll go back to supreme commander for a real RTS
2: three different games sold seperately is an obvious attempt to milk the franchise for dollars. Not into getting ripped off |

It's a shame too. I'm interested to see what their new MMO is gonna be. I'd be inclined to believe it would be a very bold move on their part to make their next new game franchise to be an MMO considering how rough the genre is. Blizz and their reputation would be alot safer doing somethign else...like say...a hit FPS. |

Now, I have no interest in playing any Starcraft, but even if it was the same game with minor improvements and a reskin job, why should people not buy it?
After all, a smart reskin can overcome that visually "dated" feel, while giving you more of the gameplay you've loved all along, with some improvements to boot.
The original two Monkey Island games got their graphics redone and you know what, it was a blast playing through them again. What's really interesting is that they felt the same as before, visually. I almost remember them looking like they do now in these reskins; but when you boot up the original graphics, goodness, they are nowhere alike! :) The old games had wildly pixellated visuals, but because they were good for their time, I find the impression they have left on me is not of "pixellated EGA stuff" but cartoonishly stylized yet beautiful pictures. The new visuals leave the same impression - and that's what matters: I still have the same fun game, without the disappointment of having to take the nostalgia trip through what's now sadly dated visuals. So, yes, I think there's a point in even outright reskins. Ultimately it's all about how bored people were with the mechanics in the original Starcraft. If they were really really bored with the gameplay itself, this sequel's reign will run short. If not, well... we may see even more years of hectic starcrafting going on.

I don't play WoW, I am not sure I will try this game. But people need to decide for themselves. To me it sounds like OP is a beta tester that either got kicked out or they would not listen to what he thought was brillant ideas by him. Fine we get it the OP doesn't like it. But there might be ones that would but OP might drive away. You never know until you try it.. If you don't like a game fine, say, this game is really not what I want to play. I wish the game success. |

Originally posted by solarine Exactly, my main gripe with the OP's post that was he was suggesting that SC2 brings no added value when compared to the original game, which looks and plays like the 11-year-old game it is, which is by today's standards, horrible. |

I can say I cannot ever remember been blown away like I am with SC2 campaign mode. I easily see why they have to have a seperate one per race. That alone I think is reasoin to buy it, if you want a cool story and cool way to progress through it you cant go wrong with that alone. THe gameplay mechanics are perfect, there simple, fast and clean and cool as graphics, the Zerg look like the menance there supposed to be now. I cant recomend this game enough. And to the OP you obviously never played the original or you would notice all the new stuff.
Or by new do you mean instead of resource gather gold, or gas, you resoirce gather strategic point and energy(dow, coh) And dont mention DOW 2 thats simply ground control 3, but its a great game but I dont think I would put it in RTS really, its almost rts but should turnbased strategy.
This game rocks. |

I bought and i'm enjoying SC2. Everyone who was keeping track with its creation knew he was not going to see groundbraking RTS mechanics but a perfectly polished, flawless executed game with an epic story and a kick ass multiplayer. A game with ultra high production standards something Blizzards excells in. And i'm perfectly ok with this approach. Besides, in my humble opinion the only "real" RTS genre over the last 5 or 6 years is the Total War series. Awesome games but very hard to master (on the higher difficulty settings) and without Blizzards *again* kick ass multiplayer. However, the OP has a point there. With all these years and all these funds at their disposal Blizz should have dared to bring in one or two new things to the genre. It's not like people would not buy the game. |

the only "new" thing needed in starcraft is better graphics, and we got that now, SC1 was 100%win. dont need any changes... |

Didn't really care for the first starcraft very much. Neat storyline but the gameplay itself was just...meh. Plenty disagree with me im aware, but i figured if I didn't like the first I probably wouldn't like the second. :P Didn't really get into rts's all that much until the homeworld series now that I think on it |

I've only just started the single player campaign and let me tell you its leaps and bounds ahead of SC1 single player. From hiring merchs to upgrading units to the way mission selection works, achievements, character interaction and the variety in missions. The single player alone with all the difficulty levels, and replay value with challenge maps and AI skirmish is worth the 60 bones I paid. I havent even touched on the multiplayer or co-op, unlockable goodies, map editor or the cool plans the mod community has for this game. I'll be playing SC2 for the next couple years and once I get a tad bored the Zerg edition will be released and it will start all over again and again with the protoss campaign. Now excuse me while i get back to this amazing campaign. |
