Originally posted by Wickersham Hmmmm... I dunno, I think it's more a sign of which system works better. I saw a show the other day where the "poor and impoverished" hillbillies of W. Virginia could only afford to buy their babies Mountain Dew because of how much they got in their government issued food stamps. I guess your answer would be to give them more money for them there poor ass babies. My answer would be cut off the money and make them uncomfortable enough to change.
And I like my straight teeth, thank you. You must be jealous. System not working out too good for you there, snaggle-tooth? =============================== |

Originally posted by Gameloading Yeah, but if you dig deeper you'll find out why this is happening. It's not happening because of our system (at least not until the Obama nut-a-thon policies kick in). This is happening in other professional positions as well. I heard a big discussion about it on the radio the other day. The reason it's ocurring in nearly all the medical fields and other professions that require a great deal of education is because the baby boomers are aging and retiring. We have a shortage of nurses, doctors, medical specialists, teachers, etc. They were actually talking about how this is a boon for the kids coming up through school because right now these positions pay incredibly well and they expect the kids today to be highly motivated to fall into those slots (again, unless Obamacare kills the motivation). Now, give it a decade or so and let Obama's policies kick in (God help us all) and we may be in the same boat as England.
If they'd leave it alone and let the free market take care of it, it would be a hell of a lot better for us. But nyah, they've got to meddle in the affairs of their "subjects" lives. =============================== |

Originally posted by gnomexxx I have a company dental plan that covers everybody in my home, also, there are no shortages up here, infact the dentist I went to as a child has a banner out that they're accepting new patients. I didn't see that show, but I'm willing to wager that you misunderstood what you were watching, or it was a misrepresentation of the facts, or that it was straight out propaganda bullshit show to get folks like you to watch so they can sell you cars and beer. Your answer to the problem would require more government agents so that they could investigate each and every welfare case on an individual basis and make adjustments where ever needed... Bigger guberment and more guberment intrusion into the lives of Americans seems to be your solution to every problem. Say, didn't you say that you were a Libertarian, bahahahahahah! |

I heard England never added fluoride into the drinking water like we have here. Don't recall where I heard it. |

Originally posted by Wickersham Did you read my post? LOL! Read it again Einstein. Look at my solution again. Carefully. It's so funny to see this time and again. The old "bad American" campaign. You've never seen the movie, yet you automatically judge it because it's an American movie. Or, since I'm an American, I just didn't understand what was being presented to me. Nice you got a good dental plan. I hope you use it well. I've read that good dental care can add up to 1/2 a decade to your longevity. =============================== |

The teeth thing is just the tip of the iceberg. Alot of European women are known for occaisionally putting off shaving their legs...for years at a time. |

Originally posted by Chieftan Yeah, I don't know how widespread it is. I went to Europe a few years back and I noticed a lot of women shaved their legs. But they seemed to be the more socially active women, so the ones who are less concerned about their appearance probably don't. Even more unappealing than hairy legs, I've also been told that European women don't bother to shave under their arms. But I can't verify that. I didn't go around lifting up their arms looking at their pits to see if it was true or not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tK6YIAX1jg |

Originally posted by gnomexxx How's this a "bad America campaign"? I'm not insulting America when I say that you probably misunderstood what you watched. I'm not judging America when I say that the show might of had a slanted view of things... I brought your ability to understand something into question, and how do you reply? By suggesting that I'm anti-American! Can you really blame me if I say that you can't understand the things around you? You've proved in your response here that you only see what you want to see, so in that show you probably only saw what you wanted to see. You said you'd make people on welfare uncomfortable enough to get them to move off of welfare, so explain how you can do that for each individual case without increasing agents or spying on Americans? Better yet, go read up on welfare first so that you'll understand the problem you're creating with your little plan - specifically look at how the state determines how much a person needs and ask yourself whether or not your plan will require more or less guberment agents and whether it will decrease or increase guberment spending on welfare. You can fix welfare by increasing how much it taxes those that work for a living. |

Originally posted by Wickersham By getting rid of federal programs all together. See, I see things through an American Constituional prism. I see things as where the federal government is shoved aside and the people work things out themselves. I see things as yeah, life is rough, but I'd rather live a rough life than take some hand out from the government that was forcefully taken away from others. I see things as if the going gets tough, you pull yourself together and get off your ass to make it the best you can for yourself. I see it as life is unfair, and that's the way God made it and it was intended to be. If you don't let people make their own decisions pretty soon they become dependent little pansy asses that have no intention of making it on their own. Uncomfortable means you take all the programs away from them. Then, in a generation or two they'll figure things out. Does it suck for a little while? Yep. Is it better for everyone in the long run. Hell yeah. Because eventually you don't have to put up with the mindset that folks are entitled to things. Hearing someone say they are entitled to something other than making their own decisions and mistakes is enough to make me want to go puke in the grass. =============================== |

Contrary to some of the claims here it is not a stereotype manufactured by Americans. I'll simply assuem those who say that are younger then 30.
You have to keep in mind during the late 40's to mid 70's the UK was stil overcoming its massive debt from WWII. How much of a role that played .shrug..more then a little. It affected everything. 20-30 years ago it was very common for people from the UK to have bad dental hygiene. Why exactly I dunno.
In the last decade or so though there has been a notable change in British hygiene habits so that the "Nasty Teeth Brit" is mostly a thing of the past. |

Originally posted by gnomexxx All that shit has been done before and welfare is the result of it's failure. It sounds like a great solution until you consider the ramifications of it. What you are saying is that you're willing to allow people to starve, you are willing to render your fellow man into nothing more than an animal, you are willing to rip families apart, you are willing to push people into the gutter and worse, and why are you willing to allow these things? For about 5% less payed to your income tax. Who are these awful people stealing luxury from you? The aged, the sick, and the disabled. Yeah sure, you can afford it, but why should you? And yes, your luxury is not going to be affected much by paying 5% more income tax, but it's the bloody principal damnit! People need to die for your principals! It's wrong to feed the aged, sick and disabled as all the religions of the world and you yourself have pointing out - it's against God's design! People need to die to maintain your views of God's intentions! |

It's a stereotype, I'm sure there was a time in England's history where a disproportionate amount of people had bad teeth but I'm certain that's a thing of the past. For example: you're fitting the 'dumbass American' stereotype at the moment. But perhaps this thread was just an excuse for your political ramblings. O_o o_O |

When I was in Europe two years ago for 3 weeks, I traveled quite a bit in Ireland, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. I didn't notice any of the hair stereotypes people are mentioning here. However while I was in France I did, it wasn't widespread (most women do shave, a vast majority) and it needs reminding that there's plenty of women who don't shave in the US either. I love stereotypes though, it reminds me of Avenue Q's song "Everyone's a little bit racist". Most stereotypes are based on truth but its not worth getting upset over. Europeans think American's are fat and stupid. I don't think we're any smarter/dumber than any other country but our lifestyle has us weighing more. So as you can see, many stereotypes are based on some truth :) Do you support Liberty, Freedom and wish to Uphold the Constitution? Join the movement - http://CampaignForLiberty.com |
