Originally posted by Illyssia I myself mainly do it because the head start crowd are those folks that REALLY love the game. The ones that just can't wait to be a part of it, the new beginning folks. Not to put the rest down, but it really seems to be a different feel from the huge mass exodus from the city gates. Some of the best guilds/groups have been in my pre starts, that is why I do it. For those other CE folks, I can't wait to see you in game just look for Volt.

just because the last remnant was poop doesnt mean their FFXIV wont be great. It's their flagship IP plus the original ff MMO was very successful
that being said, the last remnant was REALLY poop. Currently Playing EQ2, TERA Recommendation of a game you probably haven't tried: POTBS, Atlantica, L2 |

Originally posted by Illyssia The major difference is that Aion offered the headstart to those who preordered both versions of the game--the normal and the collector's edition. I'm not sure of how many people, outside of the fanbois, will get the collector's edition for this game, especially since the goggles look better and seem to be a better item anyway. Either way, I rather wait 8 days (I thought that it was 6?) and know for a fact that there will be people to group with, rather than pay more money and hope that there will be enough people to group with.

That actually seems like a nice package to me. I don't really care about getting special equipment. In the long run it's meaningless. You neglected to mention how much it costs. |

Fair enough. But what happens when it's 6 days later and the masses get their hands on the game and those who were part of the headstart are 30 levels higher than everyone else and have a hard time finding groups for their content? They will have to wait until the rest of the server catches up. It happens with games that give you 3 day headstarts. The 6 day headstart for an small group of dedicated fans will only serve to make the issue that much more noticeable. I don't like the whole headstart anyway. Everyone should start at the same time. Pre-orders should get some cool looking in-game items and/or a unique title though.

Originally posted by Satimasu Also keep in mind that the goggles will probably have charges instead of a continuous effect, somewhat like the Empress Band in FFXI. And it may not be possible to recharge them after usage. So once used up, they become a mere novelty item. This of course, could also be the case with the Onion helmet. |

Originally posted by vesavius Come on! it's not just a Helm, it's an Onion Helm. It sure makes your enemies cry until death. I have always though that Collector's editions are just a money sucker. This one looks like it too. Not becouse SE is more greedy than any other company, just becouse any CE of any game is a money sucker. -=AlaKraM=- |

In a recent interview, Tanaka said the in-game items they give for pre-orders were mainly aesthetic. http://www.jeuxonline.info/actualite/27600/jeuxonline-rencontre-hiromichi-tanaka Translation from google: JeuxOnLine: Many questions were asked about the differences between the two versions (standard and collector), especially about their bonus item. Can you tell us clearly the differences between the two versions? For example, do the glasses Garlond have limited use? |

Well, compared to many games, yes this CE won't have those game-changing in-game items. However, this provides an even playing field. The Onion Helm will help a bit with death penalties, but thats it. Thats all it should do. Some CEs give unfair advantages to those that purchased the CE. Now, look at what else is in the CE. A developer commentary DVD on how they made the game (nice, but doesnt make everyone rush out to buy the CE), a very nice journal for writing strategies or even just general writing (a journal of similar quality would cost around $10), some kind of odd certificate thing (still waiting to see what thats about), and most importantly of all, the authenticator token. If you purchased this for FFXI, you know what it is and what it does. This provides an extra layer of protection against hackers. The randomly generated codes follow certain algorythms, and Square-Enix's authentication servers are designed to store and manage the countless generated codes. This, in itself, is worth the extra few dollars. I'd much rather pay a few bucks than 6 months down the line have my account jacked and all my hard work thrown away. All-in-all, its a good bundle. Good artwork, and some nice perks thrown in. Plus, you get to play a week before everyone else. Rather than spending 15 bucks renting some games or buying one, just throw down the cash for the CE. It'll give you a chance to get out of the starting zones before the rush and be able to contribute more to your server's community. Ex-SWG Correspondent |

Originally posted by Hyanmen True, I enjoy commentary DVDs myself, however most people usually ignore them. To the masses, its like getting that extra little guacamole on your nachos. You wont throw it away because its not there, but you're not too giddy about it. Ex-SWG Correspondent |
