Gaming is life...

3/21/05 2:07:18 PM#1

Today MMORPG.com has made the difficult decision to remove the game "Mourning" from our list of MMORPG's as well as shut down our Mourning specific forums.

We would like to clarify that this decision was not based on the actions of any community members at MMORPG.com - rather our core feelings about the company publishing and funding this project, and the way they treat us and their community.

As always, we would like to encourage our community to comment on this news post and let us know how you feel.

Thanks to all of our members you for your continued support of MMORPG.com.

Can you name any specific instances that prompted this?

Well, this entire decision is based on the countless private messages we have received from Limitless Horizons Entertainment.  I do not feel it is right to discuss the details of these communications - however I can say that we did not like their tone towards our site, or staff and our community.

Cut off your nose to spite your face...

I applaud the move. MMORPG.com was very clearly Mourning's chief source of referrals; the way developers and followers of the game spoke of this community, however, was unacceptable. They reap what they sow and will now suffer the consequences of their poor choices in the public relations department.

My only regret, however, is that gamers who do find Mourning in its own little corner of the internet... they'll be unaware of our case against them, and be forced to discover it the hard way.

What? Who? How come? Where? When? Why?

You what?

Really, this all sounds like big deal. I mean, it should be explained in more detail, I daresay. That WAS a major title out there, so I guess like... welll...

This can't help but arouse even more noise than the Wish close-down. Come on, do you really expect to have this issue unnoticed?

I never really followed Mourning or hung around either forum... think you could comment on what they felt you were doing wrong or were upset about? If you dont want to poke the hornets nest then its understandable.

Either that, or people will get curious to see what all this fuss is about and hit up the official site, or someone else's coverage >_>

You can still discuss this game at our site - our general boards will be fine for this.  This move is not to censor our members - rather to stop promoting this product.

Not sure I understand the move 100%.

I thought this was a site dedicated to covering mmo games. All mmo games. Not just the ones you personally like or don't like for whatever reason.

Will just confuse people in the weeks ahead why it won't be here.

Well, this site did a lot to help the Mourning community.  We covered their news, highlighted their new screens on our home page, and gave them links to their site.

In return we received nothing but complaints and insults from their official staff.  Furthermore we don't have a good feeling about this company (and apparently they share this feeling about us).

I too thought this site was about covering all MMOs not just the ones that play nice with each other. Without knowing what happened from the LLE end it seems very much like a "i'm taking my ball and going home" move.

Hahahahaha - Very nice MMORPG.com. I never, ever would have expected you allto take this stand, but I personally applaud it!

To those of you asking why ....

The bottom line is the staff working on Mourning treat their fans like garbage and it started spilling onto the Mourning forums here. Apparently, there have also been PM's here from them to staff and so on, which has led to MMORPG.com halting their support of the game.

All in all, it does not hurt my feelings in the least bit. I tested that game for over a year, only to be shat on whenever they wanted to. They have pathetic customer interaction skills and are finally feeling the bite of what being such jerks can get them :D

Kind of makes you wonder how many other MMORPGs are out there right now that you're not hearing about through MMORPG.com eh?  Who knows, your perfect game could be up and running right now, but you might never hear about it here because one of their mods is an ex-girlfriend of some MMORPG.com staffmember or something.

MMORPG.com, this is a bad move all around.  The one and only thing you have going for you is the web address "mmorpg.com," and the second people find out that your personal feelings about certain MMORPGs either promote or preclude them from appearing on your site, they'll head over to one of the numerous other MMO dedicated sites.

It's one thing to sell out to commercialism; at least you're getting paid.  Selling out to your own faults by sinking to the level of some bickering clod is another matter entirely.  I say rise above it all and continue to list Mourning on MMORPG.com.  Nobody says you have to kiss their asses or hype their game, but when everone finds out that your list is full of holes due to your personal opinions, they'll go somewhere they can read about all of the games, not just the ones you like and/or get along with.

__________
When you see a new MMORPG, honestly think to yourself: "Is this game designed to EARN my $15 per month subscription with content, originality, and long-term value, or is it just designed to SCAM me out of $50 when I buy the box at the store with flashy advertising, biased reviews, and empty promises?"

Put yourself in MMORPG.coms shoes, imagine you do a whole bunch of promoting for a company and you get nothing but harassment... i tihnk youd stop dealing with them too. You must remember MMORPG.com is a business as well.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

3/21/05 3:42:24 PM#18

Actually if you accept that "any publicity is good publicity" then I agree with MMORPG.com's decision to not waste anymore of its valuable promotional resources on this so called game.

The Mourning forum "community" (used loosely) may now all return to stroking each others egos free from the uninvited diversity of other valid opinions.

Just the way they like it

If this is the case then well done MMORPG.com. Let them shoot themselves in the foot. I've heard things about the company behind Mourning but I didn't know exactly what was going on. Now I see. Well done.

But at the same time I'm forced to wonder if I can trust MMORPG.com's word on anything as far as games go. If they're willing to dump a game because they don't agree with the devs what's to say they won't increase teh ratings of other games, or filter out the less favorable reviews of games of which they have good standing with the devs.
