Icarus Studios has entered the RMT fray with the launch of their very own Item Store for their post-apocalyptic MMO, Fallen Earth.
The first two items available in the shop include a Kaibab Cur ($10 USD) pet which offers players companionship and an additional four storage slots, and a pair of Brass Goggles ($5 USD), which offer protection from piercing, fire, cold, and ballistic damage. What is truly surprising about this announcement is the fact the store doesn't appear to be limited to "fluff" or convenience items, as the Brass Goggles are essentially the straight up purchase of gear. Check out the item shop here. What do you think of the new item shop? Let us know in the comments below! [Thanks skinnys for the tip!] UPDATE: The Fallen Earth team has responded to player concerns regarding the introduction of the new Item Store:

Which some politically influenced people mistakenly refer to as a troll, which if you look at what it actually depicts is just the truth. The truth is sometimes hard to accept. The death of the MMO genre. "I'm not cheap I'm incredibly subconsciously financially optimized" |

The more you hype an upcoming game in your mind, the more it will fail to meet your expectations. |

Any desire to come back to the game after I decided to take a break a couple months ago is now gone. I kind of saw this coming after they gutted their staff... which is why I left. |

I'm not against item shops, but for some reason this seems like a bad move for Fallen Earth. It just doesn't seem the time of game that would have subscirbers that would be inticed by it. I could be wrong though. |

Was waiting until this week-end to resub. . not now. I am a greak but I went out and got Massivly to get those goggles. . now they can be purchased? How long until my pre-order horse is for sale. The items aren't the deal breaker. . it is the cash shop. I am thinking MMOs in general are something I will not be doing for long. . about time something kicked me into deciding that. Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is! |

This is such a shame for me, I knew it was coming. I love this game but out of principle I just can't sub anymore. I wonder how long it is before I have to find a new hobby. Actually a little bit sad tbh. ----- |

Okay, now this is despicable. Not only is this a prime example of double-dipping, they're selling actual gear with benefits, not just fluff. This is the type of item shop I am vehemently opposed to, and that I and many others consider outright unethical. Icarus can go fornicate themselves with an iron stick. I hope everyone leaves the game and they go out of business. Westwood Studios, Bullfrog Productions, Origin Systems, Pandemic Studios, Maxis, and Bioware. What do all of these fine game studios have in common? They made innovative, fun, and popular games. They were communicative with fans and greatly appreciated them. Also, they were all killed by EA. People, for the future of gaming, please do not buy EA products. |

You know when you're out somewhere and a kid picks his nose and you have to look away because you know what's coming next? Well look away from FE now because you know what's coming next. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

The game was the best MMORPG I ever played. I didn't make over 200 videos on youtube for it because I disliked it. I loved that game. But item mall and subscription fee at the same time? My ass, milk someone else, I canceled my subscription. I'm currently not playing any MMORPG anymore, and I can't think of any MMORPG beeing released any time soon that really interests me. I know no single MMORPG which is without an item mall and has a believable world I can really enjoy. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned or something, that I despise item malls that much. In games without subscription fee they are fine, but I will never play a game with both subscription fee and an item mall. Let's play Fallen Earth (from launch to present) |

I played the trial recently and enjoyed the game. I had planned on grabbing it this weekend, but not now. It isn't the Item Mall that bothers me, it's the "Cryptic" setup. Buy the game, pay for a sub, plus an item mall. They should have gone the "Turbine" route, free to download with the option to sub plus an item mall. |

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! OMG!! I predicted this TODAY!!! This very morning!!! Next they will move to a F2P model. Watch and see if they don't.
I mean, it's a shame, really. FE had so much potential. |

FE was a game I supported since beta and defended many times over. That has sadly ended today with this. The fast travel did annoy me because it could have been so much more but alas it sucked. But now an item shop...good bye dear game I will miss thee. |

Sub canceled as of today. I've said it before and I'll say it again... I will never support any MMO or company that goes with a Subs Plus payment model. I hope everyone that is canceling their subs are stating why they're doing it. Here is an excerpt from my email to them: I do not and will never support any MMO that has a "Subs Plus" pricing scheme (one that _requires_ a subscription and then charges extra for _any_ in game item or content). I am paying a subscription for you to develop in game content for me to have access to, not for you to develop in game content that I have to pay extra for (Subs Plus). F2P or tiered payment models (ala DDO/Wizards 101) are acceptable alternative payment models, but Subs Plus is something I will never support. If you guys are canceling tell them why or they wont get the message. |
