The folks at Trion have decided to reveal the classes for the upcoming MMORPG Rift: Planes of Telara. Today, we start with The Ranger.

That's all? No video? Just one little paragraph that sort of tells me this is a pet class? A tad dissapointing. We wants more! |

Speaking of which, when is E3 exactly? I'm personally in the let me see all info crowd and not the tease me till release crowd. I hate cliffhangers and waiting. :D |

While we're at it, might as well preview every other tired D&D archetype class... I'm not liking the design of this game at all so far. It's basically: "Let's produce the same MMO that's been produced 100 times, but with a slight twist (the rift system)." So once you get tired of running out to rifts in order to kill 1 of 5 sets of randomly generated mobs, all starting with minions and ending with a boss mob - then what? What does the game offer that others don't? |

Not to just jump on your post, but the game's biggest draw is the dynamic world system. Basically your actions are going to affect the world. In big ways. The example given was something like, you are tasked with saving the village which has been set on fire. If you succeed, you save the town, get rewarded, get access to npcs etc. If you fail, that village is gone. No reward, no quest hub, no npc's. Real consequences for real actions. At least that's the gist of what has been released so far. Seeing how it is implemented will be the true test. |

Well it should be similar to GW2 in terms of dynamic content. Trion were talking about it nearly a year ago, but have been emphasizing the rift bit lately. Supposedly there will be a 'unique' class system. Regardless we'll see soon enough - supposedly they'll talk about the latter at E3. I do hope it's not just the same as every old MMO... E3 is 15-17 June 2010 I believe (to the poster before the one I quoted). Ningen wa, ningen da. |

This game looks promising! Massively wrote up something nice on it as well. http://www.massively.com/2010/04/26/massivelys-hands-on-look-at-rift-planes-of-telara/
I checked out their website, but it does not have a lot of info on it yet. Maybe they are waiting for E3 to get out the news and help the community grow. |

As someone who plays a ranger I am not fond of games that make a ranger a pet class. I hope they are more of a small added bonus to damage and not like a summoner type class where you have to have your pet out to be useful. Warp |

I don't know much about this game, it looks very nice but following a 2011 release too closely leads to madness. But so far it could be a good game. |

Ugh sounds like they are going to be hunters aka pet class. Lame. Should start saying i want an ARCHER class, maybe devs will get the idea.

As much as people like to bash Aion, I think they did the Ranger class fairly well there. Snare arrows, DoT arrows and a few quick type shots. Though the whole jumpshotting was awkard and unusal, but they didnt have a pet! |

Amazing! So creativity and imagination are dead after all! *Yawn*
Next MMO please... I've been uplinked and downloaded, I've been inputted and outsourced. I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I'm a high-tech low-life. A cutting-edge, state-of-the-art, bi-coastal multi-tasker, and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond. I'm new-wave, but I'm old-school; and my inner child is outward-bound. I'm a hot-wired, heat-seeking, warm-hearted cool customer; voice-activated and bio-degradable. RIP George Carlin. |

What did they call it? Ranger? How did they come up with that?! That's so awesome! These guys are crazy!
They should make a class that serves some kind of weird fantasy God and uses maces and staves and heals people, and a class that's sneaky and uses knives, and a class that wears heavy armor and uses big weapons
OH MAN, WHAT IF THEY PUT A WIZARD TYPE DEAL IN AN MMO?! WOULDN'T THAT BE INSANE?!
I'm so pumped for this game!!! |
