So I love open world PvP and a nice skill based system.

I like a good population too, do you think I should give this old granddaddy of a MMORPG a try??

AC was an awesome game in its day.  I absolutely loved Darktide.   Right now though from what I hear its full of botters.   It was getting that way when I left in 2003  -- so give that problem 7 years to develop and.... :-(

First of all the answer is always yes, since the trial is free.

I would wait until after Tuesday's patch though.

And finally, don't ever listen to someone who doesn't play the game. Even more so when they haven' t played in 7 years.

Yes I do still play and now is a great time to get into AC. It's going through a time of a lot of improvements and changes.

They added new skills just before the beginning of the year.

They added a new playable race, tailoring, in game barber shop, the next new race is on the way, revamped the rares system and they have posted screenshots of a landscape texture upgrade.

There are more people returning and trying AC everyday do to all these changes so there are a lot of people around and Darktide is fuller then it has been in a while and still growing.

So wait until Tuesday (they are patching what they hope will fix the connection issues certain routers have) then give the free trial a shot. And be prepared to get ganked on joining darktide, it is how they welcome people.

Hahaha, in response to SnarlingWolf's remark:

You should definitely give the game a try, rather than worrying about whether it's "alive" or not, you're gonna find yourself worrying about whether your pked or not within the first 5 minutes of playing :P

even with the botters its till takes you for ever to level max level in todays game youc an level faster playing in AC even if you bot to level 275 it will atke ya months , but if you play AC play on the PVP server Dark tide as that is where people are and the good PVP.

I played this for 7yrs but left due to the game getting old and turbine not taking care of it.. but warner bros has took over and doing a graphic update soon I hear and it looks good for what it was..

AC was my favorite game to play PVP and PVE would love for them to bring it back to life more or maybe make AC3.

I would try the trial for sure.. but keep in mind the graphics are dated my the PVP rocks.. its skill based.. not that gear crap like todays game and FFA rocks your face off.

Even in PVE you have to loot your body... which can be hard in some spots.

The crafting is awesome as well, I still have a maxed tinker, aka crafter in todays words.. they call them tinkers.

Dark Crystal is not correct, you can get to level 180 in a month (the cutoff for the best of the loot in game). And no you do not need to bot in anyway.

There are a lot of older players and returning players that do not realize how much xp quests are worth now a days. First there is the hub which gets you up to about level 45 very quickly, you run through about 24 quests and you're done with the hub.

After that there are a lot of quests for below level 100 that give anywhere from 1/2 to a full level for completion. Once you get above level 100 a lot of quests give 25-33% of a level.

It really is quite easy to get up there in levels if you play the game. Older players are used to the fastest way to level being grinding out monsters in dungeons, none of those monsters have had their xp changed so that method still takes a long long time to do.

Also I don't think anything that is happening in AC right now is due to WB, they've been adding/improving a lot of the game for a good year now. It is just a continuation of that, this current dev team really wants the game improved.

I,m correct you just said 1 month.. to level 180 which is not max level..

AOC, wow and any other popular game you can hit max in less than 1 day.. so i,m correct sir...

I played the game since beta I think I know what it took to max level yes it faster now  a days as peopel cheat there way up

But if you do not cheat it will take you longer than most games on the markey today...   I have proven that in every MMO that you can level casual and still hit max level in 1-2 weeks to in another games , in AC nope....

I love to see someoen casually hit max level in ac without buff bots and any other form of cheating and yes BUff bot is a cheating I dont care what you say..

US old schoolers still buff with out a stupid buffbot that is no different the a bot in Aion or WOW, or AOC.

so enough said there..

180 in a month is for a new player, doesn't know the game, isn't macroing or being power leveled.

You say you can hit max level in a day on games like WoW and AoC (Exagerate much? Yes you do). But then you say you want to see someone hit max level in a month in AC by playing casually. Those are conflicting statements. Clearly the guy who is max leveling in a day (Which is no one because it isn't happening) isn't casual, but you want to compare that to a casual player.

It has been proven that you can hit 275 in 2 weeks in AC, if you want to power level your guy that badly. In fact if you do it right you actually can max level in a day. When they released Shadows there was a guy who had his brand new shadow up to level 170 in a couple days.

So in closing, no you aren't correct, you still don't have a clue what you're talking about or how to make comparisons, and the level 180 in a month is for a casual player. You can hit max level in a couple weeks if you really want to do it. Especially since AC, unlike other games, gives you a way to directly give XP to other players via turn-in items.

Thanks for trying to lie though.

I have no reason to lie, Thise sir are fact's/ your the one who started calling people wrong and such when there not.. I may be old school , but I left not that long ago..... and came back so I know all of the stuff.... my mage has all of the newer group buffs and I have a mansion full of quest items so I think I know what is going on in AC..... what world are you living in????   I love to see a new player buff him self.. as a melee, and hit 180 in 2 weeks in AC, now who is making stuff up you. sir.. I would be happy to log in for you to show you what my guild and myself have done through the years and show ya my knowlegde if its pleases you..i,m not  lair.  little man.

WOW I have seen it many times where people hit max level in less than 1 day.. it shows the message, AOC they did it at the expansion as well..  So kid... I know the difference if you like I wil log on AC and you can show me a level 1... and then I love to see you hit level 180 which is not max level, its 275.. and see if you can do it with out cheating, aka buff bots, macros of any sort..

I used to be a fast leveler Myself in Mmo's now I take my time..but I know you can level fast in all MMo's , AC as I said and you said I was wrong.. is the slowest leveling compared to all other MMo's and if you say that statement is incorrect I love for you to tell me a game where its slower than AC.... that is p2p...

None so I stand correct  on my statement..

I would love to see it, I will log on to any server and watch your char start at 1 and you level to 180 which is not max, and see if you can do it, which I know you can't and your a vet... so I KNOW a new player wouldn't be able to at all. so again my statement stands correct.

If that happens I will put my foot in my mouth if not then you can say your incorrect sound fair?

Far as WOW, and AOC , many many post all over about people doing it and I have seen it , because they always spammed chat when someoned maxed for the first time in those games.. so ya it can be done..I can tell you have never played AOC, or WOW or you would know how easy mode it is to level compared to AC with out cheats, aka buff bots, macros.

Oh you said power level, ya by using buff bots as I said cheats... or macros, or by sitting leeching off the newer island as many people do On DT and other servers. so again PL is cheating.....if they are using those tools..

But for a person to do it with out any of them I really love to see him do it, and a melee....With level 7 spells macroing its easy and thats what ruined AC... So I really love to see you do this.. I know it can't happen , you know why??

Because no one does that anymore. in the game since the old days.. Thre may be a few , very few.. so thats why I know your full of it.

So you are saying in WoW, and AoC that players, with ABSOLUTELY NO HELP of other players (including your own higher level players doing hand downs), can get to max level in a day? Clearly you are fully of crap if you are trying to say that.

If you aren't saying that then you are comparing getting help to max level in WoW and AoC to get to max level in a day, to insisting a player in AC can't get to max level in a day if they have NO help from other players. You can not compare two different things, so once again, full of crap.

You can get to max level in a day in AC if you have help from other players, that is a fact. It can not be argued because it is a fact.

You can not get to max level in WoW, AoC, AC in a day with no help from other players.

With no help OF ANY KIND in AC, you can get to level 180 in less then a month. The reason I use level 180 as the reference point is because the highest level restriction on anything in the game currently is 180, so that is where end game is.

With no help OF ANY KIND in WoW and AoC, you can get to end game in under a month.

So yes, you are incorrect, you are making incorrect comparisons. Have a wonderful day.

Another factor of the game that DarkCrystal is clearly clueless on, is unlike other games, AC has designed ways for players to help new players level.

There is now the Facility Hub, which is a dungeon that you can get to at level 10 and provides a quick and efficient way to get to level 45. The items you need to turn in to get the xp can also be traded, so a higher level player can get them for you and you can turn them in. You can be level 45-50 in about 30min with help. Without help you just run through a series of quest dungeons (which are fun) and it only takes a few hours and you are already level 45.

The hub also allows you to cheaply buy level 4 buffs (highest are level 8s currently) which significantly increases your survivability and killing rate = faster leveling.

There are XP items that can be traded and turned in. Players can collect as many of these as they want and trade them to other players. Those turn in items become a great tool if you want to level fast.

There are even xp gems that you can buy with alternate currency (currency gained from quests/tasks that is attuned and bonded). You hand these gems to another player, they double click them, and they get a ton of xp.

Essentially AC is currently in a state that is great for both power levelers and players who want to do it on their own. They even have a thread going right now on quests players would like to see the xp increased on. They did this a few months ago and updated 70+ quests which really improved leveling via questing, now that they're about to do it again it is going to be even easier to level up on your own if that's what you want to do.

A casual player will take many many months to reach max level in AC. Probably a year or more.

Sure you can make 180 in a couple days if you have the resources to collect the neccessary turn in xp items. However the total accrued xp at 180 is about 24billion. The max level is 190billion. Get the picture?

Botting isn't as bad as some make it out to be. Even the popular leveling spots are rarely full. The population is pretty low on the servers, still enough to do quests but barely. The PVP server has about 2x as many people playing.
