It is the raid instance at level 55 ... Some people do not like it. I have never seen past 21 so do not know anything about the zone.

Originally posted by fingle I was commenting last night in guild chat about how it's the first MMO I've played in a while where a mob's con rating is actually an accurate representation of its difficulty.... at least for a soloer, at the lower levels. I took on the quest to kill the Gataros in Cael Brael (or something like that - the Wood Elf city on the mainland) and at the time, they were yellow to me. I tried to kill one and had to run my butt off to avoid dying. That was awesome. Then I went back to do the quest again when they were white to me, so more on my level. I managed to kill them, but they took out around half my HP at least in each fight... except for the occasional one where I'd get some crits in. I definitely had to watch my back and make sure another one couldn't wander up behind me from a blind spot or I would be toast. I find dodging aggro to be a significant challenge again, as well. For one, the mobs can knock out your HP quick. For another, they chase you for quite a long time, so if you're not fleet-footed, there's a good chance you're dead before they hit the end of their tether. At this point, it's not so bad because the death penalty hasn't really kicked in, yet (I think it's level 10 if I'm not mistaken), but already I'm showing a healthy respect for aggressive mobs that I come across where as in certain other MMOs, I would run through them without a second thought, knowing that they'd stop chasing me after 10 seconds and they likely wouldn't do much damage to me anyway along the way. So, yeah... I'm definitely enjoying that aspect of it and it's nice to see an actual, meaningful, sense of danger in a MMO again, after having played so many where it's a joke. |

Originally posted by WSIMike That is what I like about it too, the danger. I like that they will chase you for a while, that one can take chances but one can also be wiped. I rarely if ever die in lotro. It's almost a given that I'll live. In Vanguard there is that sense and thrill of danger that I enjoy. As far as what others have said about the game having a future, I personally don't care. Probably because I don't live in the future (yet) I live in the present. At present it is a fun game and it's giving me something that I haven't really as of yet gotten in most mmo's. There are still issues nothing huge in my opinion but for those who are very critical or have no patience for such stuff they could be. For those who can leave their critic's hat at the door and just immerse themselves it can be a very fun game. If and when it ends I will have all those fond memories of my enjoyment in game. |

Originally posted by eolse Really? Have you not noticed that quests give jack in the way of experience? Seriously, they give the equivalent of an even con mob in experience. They're mostly there for lore. Note, I'm talking Adventurer q's here, although I'm fairly certain the diplomacy and crafting q's also give crap experience, hence the Civic Diplomacy grind and the Work order grind. |

Originally posted by tankage Is it so good now that you would offer to buy people the game on the condition that if they sub, they have to pay you back but if they don't sub they don't have to pay you? Is it that good now? |

Originally posted by zeowyrm I disagree. The adventuring quests give very good XP... The crafting quests also give very good XP, especially the artisian's saga quest line; at level 39 when I started, I went to level 42. There is also 3 diplo quest lines, but I must admit that with diplomacy doing civic diplomacy parleys gains you faster xp.

Originally posted by morpin I would also disagree, I have seen some quests that reward anywhere from 500k upwards to a million xp for a turn in especially in the magi hold area. I would really like to see this mob that gives that much xp per kill. |

While the core game is actually pretty good now days, the bottom line with VG now is that there just isn't anyone around anymore. I'll clarify that some: There are tons on the newb island, but that filters off unless you find a good core group to level with beyond about 35ish. And even the 20's can be difficult if you play at an odd hour. I have resubbed to this game a dozen times and wished so hard that my friends would stay with me, but it has ended the same every time: Someone core to the group drops and then the group disintigrates. Usually in the 40's. I think I have 5 level 40ish toons now that I just couldn't progress in a satisfying manner beyond about 44 because of this dynamic within VG. Maybe if I were twenty-something and didn't mind playing on other people's schedules, I could have made it work, but it just has never been worth the effort in the end.
That said, the game is actually good. Seriously, for a rehash of the whole Verant to SOE PvE dynamic that made people love EQ, Vanguard is also good. Unlike many, I actually like the classes and find them entertaining to play. |

Originally posted by eolse I am not sure what you mean. If you mean you can quest to advance, then yes you can. If you are saying the quests have no imagination, then I guess it's opinion, but so far they seem to have a lot of imagination. If you're saying you can't advance unless you quest, I think you're wrong, but I'll find out soon enough. What IS it you mean? |

I just downloaded the 14 day trial and from my first impressions it might turn into a full subscription. I made a psionicist and I am finding it a blast to play. The game really is visually pleasing to look at. Nice little gem of a game from what my few hours of gameplay can determine. SOE should like try to sell this game or something. |

Originally posted by sepher Well, it's got issues. I mean, many of us who play it know it to be FAR better then when it was launched. but if one is used to smooth, relatively bug free game play (i.e. wow, lotro, coh, etc) then it's "creakiness" becomes more than apparent. And it's even in game where it sometimes comes apparent just from what you experience in game. there was a point where I suddenly realized that my game play was exceptionally smooth. It actually took me by surprise. This was because I would occasionaly have a minor chunk or someting that reminded me that "oh yeah it was vanguard". But then later that evening I found myself in an area where I would have a bit of a "stop" as I crossed a chunk. Infinitely better then when the game launched but if one is not used to this, doesn't know to expect this, or if this would drive them nuts then that is going to turn players off. Also, if players are used to regular pick up groups and seeing an area that has huge amounts of traffic then Vanguard is going to seem a bit barren because the world is just so huge and there isn't really one main city. Kal seems very easy to work from and I tend to see more people there from my experience. Why? Because one doesn't have to run around to find everything. It's reasonably close. Which goes to show us that no matter what, players will tend to gravitate toward what is more convenient. It's only human nature. |

I am in the same boat with a lot of people here, I gave up on MMOs and gave Vanguard a serious try... the game is fantastic but sadly I am currently unsubbed because I hit 30ish and had no one to group with... the game would be so great with a high population - the way Vanguards population is low even though the game is good could not be more unfortunate.
I wonder if SOE knows they have a good game here and might try to revive the population with a risky move - I hope they do everything they can before shutting it down |

They should make it F2P for 6-9 months to attract more people with the hope they come back and subscribe once its not F2P If they dont wanna do that then go the D&D Model go F2P with RTM. |
