CNN.com is reporting that four Second Life players have filed a class action lawsuit against Linden Lab over the ownership of virtual land in Second Life. The suit claims that Linden Lab has misled players into thinking they owned their virtual land. The plaintiffs, who filed the suit in te US District Court of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, are citing California's consumer protection laws to make their case. Linden Lab is based in California. The complaint alleges Linden Lab promised that players actually owned their property, and that they have since changed their rules stating that the lend is provided as a "service" that can be canceled at any time. The plaintiffs are seeking $5 million in damages. CNN.com [via Blue's News] Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

If they win they should get paid in Lindens. "For your virtual damages, here is your virtual cash."

Some people have no shame. This is just a ridiculous attempt to bamboozle the American court system by claiming that the virtual property holds actual value. Only the most Liberal of Liberal judges would even take this case seriously, I think it's a joke and I'm pretty Moderate myself. Sorry Charlie, your virtual whore house may bring you some real world cash, but that doesn't make it a tangible asset. |

My other post was deleted because it contained a negative view on Americans, and they call it trolling, not that this was my intention...

Eminent domain. Linden Labs is the "government" of that virtual land, and just like in reality where you don't actually "own" the land you own (you pay "rent" to the government, aka property taxes), the government can take your land as long as they give fair value and its "for the public good". Fair value would be, oh, zero dollars. |

It's "Second" Life people. SECOND Life. it's not "Real" life.
I'd ask "what is wrong with you people?", except that I don't want to understand. Not in the least. |

They probably have a better one than you Cik_Asalin. |

TOS and EULA do not hold up in court as they are one sided and can be changed by the license hold at will with no input from the subscriber.
This lawsuit is a direct result of advertising and is the future of RMT and virtual property. Once virtual property obtains real money value the next step is for the government to tax it. It's coming. -------- "SOE has probably united more gamers in hatred than Blizzard has subs"...daelnor |

Amen Czanrei. I earn $200 USD a month in "Second Life" working on computer graphics and design. The clueless monkeys on this website who make these uneducated jokes about the "game"? I'm surprised they know how to dress themselves in the mornings. |
