I know this has been asked a thousand times before but I can’t get any love from the search function (my search-fu may suck) and everything I find on the intrawebs is old (I don’t know if it is still relevant).

Well with ranger you can kite the enemy and kill him, with tempest of set you can aoe grind at higher levels. It all depends on what you mean by solo.

Well while questing I dont have to worry about adds and if I have to content with 3 or 4 mobs I dont have to run :).

At the begging they all seem to be equal but at level 40ish classes like priest of mithra or tempest of set are very survivable because they can heal themselves and kill multiple enemies at the same time easily which lets you level up faster.

What about the guardian? Pretty tough and is somewhat enjoyable.

The biggest question here, and a deciding factor - are you on a PvE or PvP server?

Most people will have their views on what's solo friendly, but a big part of it is just your play style. Like me, I like to swing a big a$$ 2-handed sword while wearing a dress or potatoe sack (hox and barbarian). I have had great success soloiing with those two classes because both are like a flaming hot ginsu going through warm butter.  And in actuallity, it's hard to die as a berserker specced  barbarian.  Besides, two handed edged fatalaties are a blast to watch.

Barbarians (Heavy Health Regen, Lots of CCs), Conquerers (Brute's Brust of Agression Spam, Flame Weave Flag and Hail of Furious Strike 360's are great), Bear Shamans ( *shakes head*) (+25) are great solo melee classes

All ranged classes cept Priest of Mitra are good solo classes as well. Mage classes pretty much dominate...

I'm on a PVE server (I cant remember the name, I'm at work :D).  I usually play a necro or a healer but I just couldnt get the feel for the necro in this game, I keep dieing.  He is currently only level 17.  I would like something that can heal themselves, just enough to make soloing easy, I dont have to be a main healer.

It has been a while I played AoC, Dark Knight got nice boost last summer but my choice would still be a Bear Shaman.

I've found ranger to be a class well suited for solo play. Great stealth ability (avoid ganking) medium armor allows you to take on at least 3 mobs at a time with little problem ( at an equal lvl or a few above) (Anything lower than me I can tank 6-7 of no problem) some of this has to do with my gear of course.

Really most clases are suited for solo play though, POM leaves a little to be desired from what I hear in guild chat though.

I'm playing a Guardian - polearm and I'm having a blast. Just waiting to get the max level in Tortage and then I'll sub.

With my Guardian I can take 3 enemies at the same time and laught at the end with 1/3 health left. Enemies of my level.

But then I'm only level 17, so i can't talk about higher tears.

To take this further, i was wondering what class best compares to a rogue/assasin in other games? and is bear shaman a ranged DPS? I was also wondering if you race/faction really had any effect on your character or it is just for shows.

Barbarian/Assassin/Ranger are all rogue-types and get stealth, all can use bows, but only Rangers get combo abilities specifically for bows.

Bear Shaman is a Melee/Healer, and all the healers in this game are damn good in PvP.

Race determines the available classes, only Stygians get the non-priest magic types. Faction is just for rep grind for all I know.

Personally, my favs were Barbarian and HoX. Barbs are deadly good later on when you can dual spec two-handed weps and dual-wielding. You CC the hell out of them, do a quick swap, then pount them with dmg, repeat. HoX's are just kamikaze artists. They can go down fairly quickly, but can wipe up a small huddle of people too fast to handle sometimes.

Ah i see, looking at some youtube vids seems like a HOX would be something i would enjoy playing. Thanks for the help!

Conqs are great to play.. eventually its a barbarian with improved survivablity. the other toon fast to level are necros... east to play point click send your pets :P
