Hey, I started looking at some videos of Darkfall, I read some reviews ( www.darkfallreview.com ) and I'm starting to get interested more and more about that game. It's been years since I PvP'ed and I don't want to do it WoW-style no more. Also, the fact that it is skill-based it very interesting. IF YOU TRIED IT: Please tell me what you think about the game. Don't flame if you never tried it at all please.
Thanks!

I wanted to choose a maybe answer or a yes/no answer, but out of the choices given I ended up saying NO since I'm not playing the game. My reasoning, while I enjoyed certain aspects, the pve AI was good, the crafting and skill system were strangely addictive despite the grind and the world, despite lack of a true soundtrack and certain sound/distance issues was quite immersive. HOwever, I couldn't enjoy any of that due to the ganking, forced pvp, forced full loot, and forced first person view. If I could "choose" when to pvp or at least have more fluid control over my character that other MMO's give me, then I probably would have stuck with it. |

FYI, there is a Darkfall specific section. Also, just pay a buck and try the game out, see for yourself. |

I gave the free trial a go but found the control system too clunky for me to progress with the game . I'd rather not waste my time and play something a bit more polished in terms of its interface like Lotro or Everquest . That not to say i hate the game I just feel indifferent to it . Not sure whats worse . |

Too much verticle progression (for a PVP game) and emphasis on zerging for me. Also I strongly dislike any game with AFK-able resource gathering. |

If they ever have a free trial, I'll try it. Not going to pay a dollar, sorry. Well shave my back and call me an elf! -- Oghren |

I have a hard time warming up to a game whose main attribute is the ability to gank new players and take their gear. EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests |

I've steered clear due to the wide open FFA PVP mechanic (I like mine a bit more controlled) and the design where you have to do hundreds, if not thousands of hours of PVE activities to progress your character to make him effective in PVP. Waiting for a PVP game where you truly advance by PVP alone. A few days ago, I downloaded and began playing the Darkfall 7 day trial. I am still in the newbie area, and haven't experienced much of the overall game, but I have to say that so far I am enjoying it. The very first thing I noticed, is that the game is MUCH better looking than I thought it was. Videos do not do this game justice. The Ork starter area is pretty empty of players, but for such a large world (and it IS huge), I don't find this very surprising. The game runs well on my machine (E8400 3ghz, HD4850), and I have no complaints about shoddy coding, or bugs (yet). The controls take some getting used to, but the UI is not nearly the nightmare that I had been told it was. It plays very differently from other MMO's, but after playing so many games that are similar, I find this refreshing. I am not sold on the game yet, but I can tell you that I don't see why Darkfall has recieved such criticism from a lot of people. I enjoy games that are more difficult (EVE player here), so I don't mind the "hardcore" nature of Darkfall. I am an older gamer, and I have played a lot of games that turned me off well before reaching the point that I have reached in Darkfall. |

When I knew about the game for the first time I knew inmediately this would be the game I would devote my time and money. It was what I was looking for after leaving pen a paper rpgs (I always never had someone to play). I had a sort of old computer enough to play the average game and I knew this game deserved something better so expent almost $1000 buying a new computer just to enjoy the game as it deserved and till today I haven't regret of my decision. Perhaps you would not need to buy a new one as I did but the point is that the attraction you say you feel for the game was the same what brought me to it and I am still here. The aspects to enjoy are really a lot: crafting, dealing, exploring, sieging, city defense, sailing, questing, pvping, harvesting, pveing, dungeoning, traveling or just griefing if that is your playstyle, you never will be without something to do, you won't regret, believe me. |

Im not much into MMO PvP, and know would still be playing if it had been a full PvE game - and by that ofc have alot more in PvE to do... reasons I dont play. full PvP and the fact Ive got some 112 HP and know you need quite alot more than that to compete with the n00b gankers, I pretty much get 1 hitted. hm long post to say in Darkfall it aint your gear that is important its your chars skills....gear aint what takes time to get...skillls is your gear, which you wont ever loose. and you can progress by PvP alone, tho by far as effective. and it is sorta controlled, by having the allignment system - I never got ganked by one from my own allignment. ow and the gank button is a good thing, I hate when ppl dont gank me n give me the extra waiting time before revive :P |

I betaed the game and then played the 1st month, I would probably still be playing except back at the start billing did not automatically renew. So one day I went to log on and wasn't able to and they had a mess on their hands back then so I could not renew the first couple of time I tried so I did the old /RAGE QUIT! I was a solo player and had a blast! I am an EQ2 player so this was great to not have to zone all the time to get anywhere. I wanted to be the first person to explore the whole world, so I stated a Dwarf just so I could be at the top of the world and started working my way south. Unfortunatly it did not take long to find out that everytime you die you revive at your last bind stone! So I started of again this time looking for the becon in the sky. Took me the better part of 3 hours real time to get to the southern coast, there were still islands to the south that I never made it to The world was sooooo empty then, as long as I stayed away from starting area I did see any other players or NPC. Found all kinds of cool city that were abonded (not by design would be my guess) cool weapons and armor. I think the ONLY thing that turned me off was the fact I could not get use to FULL LOOT. Take my sword, take my coin, but please leave me with a bit of dignity and respect to not have to run around naked. If the game were more of a pick 1 item from the corpse plus all the coin you have I thing (IMO) more people would play this game. I THINK THIS GAME ROCKS. Still debating on going back but it is just so tough being a noob again :(. All I can say is if you think you might like it, or even if you are on the fence, give it a try, if $1 will kill you maybe you should not be playing P2P MMOs. Enjoy. |

I have been playing for over a year. I am a casual player who has never grind much and have a great kill vs death PVP ratio.
This is by far the biggest adrenaline rush and emotional roller-coaster that I have ever experienced in front of a computer!
I almost quit during my first month a few times . .. lol noob . ... but WOW I am so glad that I stayed because there is the opposite end to all of your shitty loses during the game that you will get once you learn . .. and it feels really good and is a great rush that you cannot get in other games.
You dont need to grind. You dont need 400hp. You dont need surging nukes or any shit like that . .. so many myths out there! Find a friend and duel often while perfecting your UI/controls over and over again and you will be able to take on much higher skilled/stat players fast. Nobody duels much and most peoples setups are a joke . ... thats a much bigger disadvantage than having 200 more hp (just trust me on this . .. blame yourself EVERYTIME that you die. There is always something that you could have done differently but it will take time to learn).
You wont get to experience much of anything during your trial. The world will seem sad and lonely most likely. You do not need to enjoy PVP to have fun in this game, but I do think that you have to enjoy the PVE if you are going to last.
Welcome to Darkfall! NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |

Thanks for all those replies! I started playing tonight and oh, I never thought I'd like that game this much! Sneaking on mobs, hiding to stop the arrows from piercing you, running for your life, exploring, aiming is really really fun. The game is beautiful and runs very smoothly. Dying has a new signification... Now you REALLY must run for you life, if not then you'll lose it all. Yes it is frustrating but it changes everything! Never felt that much of stress during a game! I can't wait to play again!!! :)
Thanks all again :) |
