MMORPG.com's Garrett Fuller recently spoke with Quest Online's Derek Smart about the new direction that the game has taken since his arrival.

Can you give us a little history on Alganon's recent events and its resurgence?

Derek Smart:

Alganon has been in development for a little under four years. It was originally conceived by David Allen who recently "departed" the company. The game was released on Dec 1st 2009 in a less than stellar state, then later tagged as "soft launch". The company has gone through some shakeups as a result and I am now running the company and in charge of spearheading the effort to complete and officially release the game later this month.

Nice little fluff article. Combine this with the fact that all of the forum threads that Derek Smart said anything combative in have been deleted, and one wonders how unbiased this was.

This Picture of Derek is HILARIOUS.   Looks like he just killed a handle of Jack after a long day of forum trolling and bashing the original developers.   

I feel like Alganon should change its game name to "Derek Smart's Alganon"   Since we never hear about the game and only about this dude.   Hes pullin a Richard garriet.

I dunno, I still like Derek Smart. He seems like the kinda guy you could sit down and have a beer with whilst discussing the latest MMO scene. I'm sure he's just as full of piss and wind, but who isn't really? I was totally into BC3000, and if Derek could go back with a reasonable team and make a new one, without the bugs, next gen graphics, etc, I'd be there with my money in my hand. Smart either does what he says, or fails at what he says, but even though he spins like a mofo, he generally doesn't shy away from taking a beating when he fails.

I think the guy has balls, in an ocean of politically correct whiners.

Who said we did not like Derek?  I think we just wanna stop giving this guy so much attention as its Overshadowing the game and not helping its future.  

Gameplay vids,  New Features and Future development leaks help game sales.  Not Derek Smart fame.

For example,  Other interviews would consist of an epic Game Screenshot,  not an Epic Developer Drunken Bar picture.

No, because he has done it again. This is his MO. Good thing what he writes is always copied to other sites. I just hope it wasn’t MMORPG that did it.
They are doing a disservice by promoting this man.

I hate this picture so much. I mean, any dev using the Jersey Shore Duckface really isn't a dev I'd trust to fix an already broken-beyond-belief game. I didn't even touch upon his despicable and juvenile unprofessionalism. Fail new lead dev is fail.

Interesting... All of the ones I remember in the Alganon forums here are still very much intact.  If you mean the official Alganon forums, I'd not know as I've not been back there for awhile.  But it would hardly surprise me if those had vanished.  Those are the posts that orginally drove much of the once fine community to leave, and thus inflicted major damage on one of the more valuable assets that QoL had.

Just to prove I'm not going all conspiracy theory here, if you follow the link to his profile, supposedly he has posted 18 times.  Of those 18 posts, only the 3 PR appropriate ones are left.  Man, I spend way too much time on these forums . . .

All i want to know is can i get my money back the game isnt good IMO.

But i should have known better than buying it so it is my own fault,  :(

Its perfectly fine to dislike someone, but posting just to say that you dislike someone is not contributing to the discussion. Discuss the games good/bad points and voice your opinion. Posting things like "I hate this guy." or just "This sucks" and nothing else is not adding anything to the thread.

I find it funny how yet again people expect gaming gold out of any mmorpg from launch. That will never happen in ANY game period. Some are more horrible then others some actually launch really well (which is very rare). The worldwide business model for mmorpg is release what you have cash in use the cash to upgrade and expand. It's been like that for 25 years since the first of its kind surfaced with aol 1.0. And it will be like this until the genre dies out if that happens at all. So all the whining over producers who are more public and those who arent. Really read this right here (stfu) because if you knew anything about the business. It's the backers the stockholders and the funding who makes the very business model itself. Producers programmers testers artist just live in that world they cant set the rules.That makes the constant same problems that all these games face. And until one company says lets make a gold release from launch (which we all be dead before that happens)

For the record I neither hate nor like Dr Smart and have little exposure to him outside of his dealings with alganon.  That being said, he is doing little to inspire much confidence in the game with his recent antics. 

Most of what I read here is either pointing fingers at someone else or a bunch of I this and Me that statements as if he is the entire team handling everything. 

This article seems very accurately titeled as "Derek Smart Interview".
