Originally posted by LotosSlayer Try see what the average WoW player thinks about other games then. Why do they always come back to WoW, even players who have played alot of MMO's before they played WoW? I have personally no problems understanding why WoW is so popular. People who think they play WoW just because it is their first MMO, is just ignorant. It is the best game on the block, for the majority of the MMO players. Even the 2nd most popular MMO is a midget compared to WoW. The only threat WoW has is Blizzard... |

Originally posted by Netzoko Truth be told in some ways it does make some difference, have you ever played a game that is far too lightly populated? It kind of points you to the fact that when it comes to mmo's population does make a difference in general so from that it's up to each individual user to determine what factors decide how they feel about that. I for one had a hard time getting into LOTRO at first because of the difference in population from WOW, which literally had so many players anytime you felt like doing something you could find people to do it. That's just not the case with most games and dare I say I went months before finally being able to find people willing to run some of LOTRO's lower level instances as I came on much later when they weren't new to anyone other than those new to the game. I think other things factor in the desire to see another mmo put up wow type numbers, for some it's validation of what they may feel, like mmo's being a viable powerhouse and not just some sort of niche market with the exception of the juggernaught that is wow. |

Originally posted by Methos12 OH NO!...Please God no, let it not happen. Sorry I prefer my games the way they are and I like all those 10 year old kids, clueless housewives and granddads to remain in WoW where they belong. WoW has a purpose - to keep all the non serious gamers in 1 place. Games like Lotro, EQ, and the others are for serious gamers. Let's keep it that way and preserve the universe of gaming. Thanks. |

Originally posted by elderotter The pros stay in WoW, those who can't cope with it need play the second best. I am playing LOTRO as we speak. It is virtually dead. And I play on one of the most popular servers, Laurelin EU. Laughable (in)activity. This easter I played EQ2 as well, and it had more activity than LOTRO. Well, I saw maybe a couple lowbies when I levelled to 14 one night. If that is called acitivity? |

Sub number wise? Nothing for a while, gameplay means nothing when it comes to WoWs subs, the game got popular because it started out good and top notch mmo, people got there friends to play, and so on, game got popular, more people try it out, coulda happened with any mmo. Now though, most mmos beat WoW in my opinion. In terms of beating it in fun factor, well, be innovative, dont stick with the classic mounts, swords, magic, and hotbar mmos. AKA EQ2 Clones MMOs played: Too many |

goodness how often do we have to go through the same questions regarding WOW? I believe WOW is an outlier, a very rare occurrence of a game that hit at the exactly right time to fill a huge void in the mmo landscape. I dont believe even the star wars mmo will be as big, because there are so many mmo's out there now. But i can always be wrong.

To beat WoW? You'd need a better combat system than WoW's. Many people leave WoW for other games. They nearly always return to WoW after a month or two. Why? WoW's combat system. WoW put a lot of time into developing a combat system that has many features and is very responsive. It's so responsive that it rivals man FPS. One of the devs was interviewed a long time ago, he said players must find the combat fun. If the players don't like the combat, WoW will fail. WoW has 11 million subs thanks to its combat. EQ2, LotRO, DDO, DAoC, WAR, AoC none of these games come close to WoW's fluid, complex and responsive combat system. Well shave my back and call me an elf! -- Oghren |

Farmville and the facebook gaming scene has a serious chance of being a fad that unravels. The game is lacking in it's core, and as the novelty fades the enjoyment of the excess will turn to disgust and embarrassment with the waste, like every overblown novelty fad of all time. Remember the arcade fads of the 80s? All kinds of American adults and females played games such as space invaders and pacman, but within a year or two the fad had passed and the arcades were full of young boys who were in it for the deep love of good games rather than for the novelty. I can't believe the industry is falling for this fad, but I guess the Wii profits are so big and the risk is so low. Still, if I were an investor I would estimate the lifetime of this trend and sell short on any public company based around these facebook games. Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation. |
