isn't gas powered games the ones behind dungeon seige?  The first of which was decent, but it was not nearly as good as diablo 2.  That franchise sure went to crap, the psp version was just mind numbing.

I have it pre-ordered and really looking forward to it.  I do agree with other comments in this thread, this is an MMO site and this game shouldn't be mentioned seeing as it has nothing to do with MMO's.

Momo sucks, I have proof.

Though, its alot more fast paced than SC1, the adrenaline rush after 10 mins+ play in the old game, is now there after only a few minutes.. it seems to have opened up alot more for different strategies, and the graphics are nice.

For me, its alittle too fast paced and i feel like I have my head held down to the screen.. i keep wanting to zoom out, but cant. The units seem too big for the zoom limits.. but thats probably just me wanting it to be SC1.

Still plays alot like sc1, which I must admit, had me bored after a week of play.. but ill prob come back for more.

Noooooooooooo. I was looking forward to this game I think part 1 is a decent game.

One thing I hate with most 3D RTS is the camera is to close and you can't zoom out.

Why have 3D if you can't zoom out.

I'll stick to Yuri's revenge and Age of Empiress 2. :(

We tear into this site, MMO devs and each other without prejudice. Yet we wonder why at times they bite back.

There is also a huge difference between calling someone a douche and pointing out when they are acting like one. That's what admin did, he pointed out a user was behaving in a manner only a douche would. That's not saying hey you're a douche, that's saying "dude, please stop acting like one".

We created the environment that is MMORPG.com, the site directors didn't. It's our responsiblity as a community to respect those who have given us a place to chat, and post our grievances as well as each other. I'm not seeing that, I'm seeing consumers who think they can say and do what ever they want without inccident. I'm also seeing users who think they run MMORPG.com, rather than MMORPG.com running itself.

This thread just goes to show why these forums are filled with nothing but hate and bile. It shows there's a total lack of respect for fellow users as well as those who have given us this place we so love to visit. I'm glad they've finally had enough of it, as hopefully things are going to be changing around here.

I had enough of it months ago, and we've been making pretty large strides to change things since then. I think things have gotten a lot better, for what its worth. If you disagree, please help us by reporting violations of our Rules of Conduct as you see them, thanks! :)

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone.

I've seen changes for sure, I've felt them myself, moderation has picked up a bit. I think what's left to do is for the community to change. You guys can only do so much, considering how active these forums can be. What needs to happen is for us all to realize we have a common goal, we want better games.

It's how we segregate each other into neat little groups that causes most of the problems IMO. If we stopped looking at each other as either fanboi's or haters, sandboxer and themer, we might as a community realize there's nothing but a slight difference in opinions that separates us. Which may lead to less hostility, well,  we can dream can't we?

That's all I have left on the subject, aside from, I'll apologize for my own contributions to this threads de-rail.

This kinda crap has got to stop. Blizzard is just a company that provides high quality video games. They've earned a lot of respect in software development circles.

It almost seems like you guys (mmorpg.com writers) feel the need to apologize for speaking positively about Blizzard.

No apology necessary. They're a damn good company that releases damn good games and has for a long, long time.

Seriously. I for one would have never looked for this site if I hadn't played wow and got bored and went looking for another mmo.  Show of hands?... I'd say this site owes a lot to blizzard.  That said SC2 isn't too impressive to me as a long-time blizzard gamer.  I expected more than just the same game with more story over a 3d engine.  The thing to watch is going to be the developer tools and support for amatuer dev's over bnet.  Do an article on that.

Not in the least. It's cheap advertising for Blizzard.

I agree with this. The devs have been crowing about the editor, so that might be the killer app.

Do an article on that.

Not on this site.

I'd say it's mutual but don't you think this site benefits a lot more from blizzard than blizzard does from one fan site? Hmmm?

The way I tell people is that blizzard may not have gotten very innovative with this SC but at least they gave us the tools to make up for it.

LOL No, it doesn't. I just picked red because it's the colour I choose when I can in multiplayer games (board games, mostly). It helps me remember which pieces are mine.

As for who is benefiting more, Jon keeps saying the site doesn't benefit from such relationships.

The Starcraft ad (article) is there in your face every time you load or reload the front page. I'm guessing it's doing a LOT more to expose SC2 to MMORPG players, than drawing SC fans to this site.

You just won't take them at their word will you?

Secondly if it's a paid advertisement for starcraft it's a pretty freaking horrible one, as it doesn't tell you anything, outside of the guy had fun. Oh lets not forget, he liked the shiny things he saw.

It sure as **** doesn't say to me hey go pick up Starcraft 2, it says  if you liked the first one you will like this one. Which to me says if it wasn't SC (to paraphrase) I might not like it. Which also says if you hate SC (me) you'll hate this game.

That sounds like a pretty good ad to me. It's not a review. Ads aren't supposed to be informative.

I don't think it's saying that to very many people.

In before "this is not an MMO! why is this here? what is this site coming to!"

Oh crap. Nevermind.

It's here because it's Blizzard. And Blizzard is our Brangelina.

If Blizzard flashed a nipple, adopted a foreign baby or expressed an opinion on the best way to fertilize gourds, it would be news.

But seriously...

I consider this newsworthy. Blizzard were huge in the gaming industry before WoW and they've obviously done well with their single MMO. And after WoW launched and started making them stupidly wealthy... they stopped making other games.

http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/

So the fact that they're now working on sequels to the non-MMOs that they were earlier famous for is interesting. This is especially true since what we normally hear as news is offline game developers trying to crack into the (lucrative) MMO industry.

Why now?

Do projections show WoW's profits slowing? The last statistics I saw showed WoW still growing, but that growth was slowing and the rest of the MMO market had overtaken WoW on growth.

Is there a consumer perception that they're outdated and possibly out of touch, not having released a new game for such a long time?

Are their figures showing renewed in offline games?

They marketed WoW extremely well and essentially created 12 million new mmo players. Do they have some kind of cunning marketing plan to sell these new offline games to a similarly expanded audience?

Or are they just so stupidly wealthy that they can afford to create these sequels on a whim, with no thought for profitability? Are they now the gaming industry's equivalent of an independently wealthy artist capable and content to create new works as and how they please?

Yes they are working on non-mmo sequels and yes it looks like Starcraft II will hit retail in a few months time, but I have to say Blizzard really have put SC II and Diablo III very much on the back burner and focused on endlessly patching content into WoW over the past 6 years now. I really think they have shown amazing focus to become a hugely profitable games company, but the cost has been a delayed Starcraft 2. Let's face it folks, after 10 years those gamers under 21 (i.e. kids) simply won't have played Starcraft, though they will have played WoW, the Blizzard flagship and cash cow.  How that has effected Blizzards decisions here we can only speculate, but Starcraft has been delayed till near the end of the WOW lifecycle as a result of Blizzards corporate planning.

I think the demo is important for Blizzard to get right as they want to launch with the online game balanced and fun, but  I think while it is a good ScFi stratergy game it isn't going to change our perception of the genre. A similar thing with Diablo 3, it will be a fun hack-slash-game with definitely improved graphics from the ancient Diablo II, but I think compared to Dragon Age/ FF XIII many will wonder why it too doesn't have as deep and immersive a story too.

In a way I think Blizzard is entering the vintage gaming market with Starcraft 2 this year and Diablo 3 next year. The games will have nicer graphics, but the style and appeal will be somewhat retro. Given all of this it will be interesting to see where they go with there next gen mmo to replace WoW after Cataclysm...at some point they need to attempt something that feels new, or otherwise why not simply patch and update all their previous work forever and just cash in on the restro/vintage gaming market that seems to be out there.

Sonny 1 and 2, find it on ArmorGames. Greatest flash games ever made, they rival console games IMO.

I'm in the beta, I'm finding it to be pretty good even though I really suck at SC. Blizzard is always top quality, I think I might actually get SC2 when it comes out. Hopefully most of the WC3 custom maps will come over too.

I used to love RTS games, but none of the new ones have producing anything original in that genre, its very boring.

Lets try to keep this on topic guys, it has strayed for quite a few pages. This thread is about SC2, and only about SC2. Any other off-topic posts will be deleted. Put the personal attacks and accusations aside and let the discussion continue ;).

Well that is your opinion, but I think you are far in the minority with that statement.  Most of us would probably tell you the original Starcraft was better...

TA had a better control interface, but that was about it. The two factions were virtually identical. It had no where near the variety and replay value of SC.

I was wondering when we would get some TA fans speaking up.

TA was a much more in depth game and the two sides were not near the same in terms of unit types/abilities. One could not use the same tactics from one side to the next based on those differences. If you believe the two sides were the same you simply loaded it up, made a few tier 1 tanks and quit playing soon after. Most players I saw in TA that left for SC never could grasp the scope of TA and because of it were never any good at it. They settled on SC because it was far easier to get their heads around and manage what was typically a smaller scale war.

Blizzard announced Starcraft 2 3 years ago and Diablo III 2 years ago.   I wouldn't exactly call that creating them on a whim.

Although if they both release this year, that does seem like short development time for Blizzard, at least for D3.

My theory is that they have been working on a new MMO and are just trying to push out SC2 and D3 so that they can focus on their next MMO game.

I also believe that the new MMO game is the reason Starcraft Ghost was unofficially cancelled.

Of course, this is all just speculation on my part.
