Shannon "Poz" Posniewski has delivered his first State of the Game letter as Executive Producer on Champions Online. The letter reveals some major developments for the game, including the announcement of the "Super Power Pack," which consists mainly of both the Supernatural and Melee powerset reviews, as well as improvements to the teaming experience, and more. Later on in May or June, Cryptic Studios will release the game's first Adventure Pack called the "Serpent Lantern." A bullet list of the Super Power Pack's main features can be found below:
As for the Serpent Lantern adventure pack, not much is really known other than it involves a "big serpent. And a lantern." No word on whether this adventure pack will be free or for-pay, either. Cryptic Studios' adventure packs will be designed as "a great big story arc" for players level 11 and up and will scale to the teams level and size. UPDATE: For the moment we can assume the Adventure Packs will be free, as both Poz and Jackalope have clarified in the past that future Adventure Packs would be free of charge: Poz at a recent dev chat:
Jackalope (Jack Emmert) in a forum post regarding Adventure Packs:
Things can always change, however, and we have no official confirmation either way as far as the particular Serpent Lantern pack goes. Thanks ChampionsFan. View the original announcement here. [Thanks Christopher8 for the tip!] Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

Adventure "pack" implies a "packaged goods" which implies "paid for". Enjoy what is essentially your sub-fee, Lifers. I just don't see how they think this is going to encourage the 30K people left in the game to stay when they can x10 as much, with x10 the polish, in about 10 other games for ONLY the sub. Plus, why would new people pay $30, plus $15 a month, plus costume pieces (not needed, no), plus $$$ to round out the already shallow content? The customers of this company baffle me. Why pay more for something less robust or complete then the standard out there? Not even just pay "as much" as others... MORE??!?!? I just do. Not. Get it. |

Actually they have stated it many times, that all the adventure packs will be free. It was starting to get redundant, especially because we have never payed for content in CO, so that's why they did not say it again. Perhaps this is good enough, in the latest dev chat a player asked Vargr Dragonwolf: Are the "Adventure Packs" mentioned earlier going to be free content updates, or purchased through Cryptic Store or other means? Since Poz is the executive producer, I would say that is pretty definitive. I can find more statements to this effect if needed. Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation. |

Sure, I will explain. Champions has very responsive action based gameplay, more than any other MMO I have tried (for example, I played AoC because I wanted an action-MMO, but I find CO to deliver much better in this area). The next main reason is that Champions has a classless open build system, meaning no more of the tankers, healers, and dpsers that I am so tired of. I never need the holy trinity again, ever. No matter how well a company does it, I am tired of being forced into a class that restricts my creativity. I have played CO for 1000+ hours. I have over 20 characters, and they all play differently. Too often in other games I think "wouldn't it be nice if I could have a character that does this" and in CO I can actually make that character, because I am not locked down by artificial class restrictions. Those are the main two things CO has that no other MMO has right now, fast-paced responsive action-based gameplay with reflexes involved, and the classless open build system that allows more freedom than class-based games. Sounds good, can't wait for the new pack.
As for why people still play this
Open class system
Fun combat
Simple as that. No other game currently offers those two things at the level that CO does. Also as a lesser note the graphics trump CoH, not that it matters though. MMO wish list: -Changeable worlds |

Only way I'd consider coming back is if it comes out on the 360 and they drop the monthly fee. Maybe if they drop the monthly fee I'd consider it... but... the 360 for sure... which they won't do. |

I quit a month and a half after release shortly before blood moon, so with the little theyve added in CO, plus Blood moon returning, plus revelation, i might just resubscribe once the first adventure pack releases MMOs played: Too many |
