Yep, it's what I been waiting years for. I can see through the bugs that are in BETA and see where this is going. Just awesome.
-= Edit =- Here is a video of a city at night.
and here is a open beta video....
Beta is moving along nice I think for the short time I have been in it...
-=Update=- New patch is great, and added some nice stuff. I like the libraries with the ability to buy all the skill books. So far I have made a Bowcrafter (Brownwood+ Horn makes nice bow), weapons crafter (Mostly spears), Armour crafter (Draconigena Armatus Plate bone armour and shields), and a tamer. I'm still working on a mounted bow fighter and an extractor/refiner. I really like the depth to extraction/refining. So far I have made copper. Had to mine Saburra (Sedimentary type rock) and grind it down and extract Malachite. Then you take the malachite to a furnace and with water you make Cuprum (Latin for copper). Now I can use the copper as is to make weapons or armor or I can turn it into bronze or brass with more refining. Next I'll try and make pig iron and go from there. I'm still having a Blast in this game and it looks like it has lots more to come. This beta is looking to me like what a beta should be like. They are taking their time with a good long open beta and adding new features to the game and letting people test and debug them. I have been saying for years that this is how a company should run it's beta.

this is not a troll post, but I just want to honestly ask you a more detailed explanation of where you think the game is headed, and the features which you are looking forward to the most, as I have never tried MO |

Its been lie after lie after excuse after excuse.... they cannot even seem to make a proper patcher, the design is opening the door to major cheats/hacks, animals "leviatate"- Yup, awesome game. This isnt a beta, its more like an alpha (and already far past the initial release date) -You should buy more copies since this game is so great. =P |

I had fun with what has been implemented for about 3 hours, then I began to realise it's a very static world, with very little player interaction other than everyone pickpocketing each other in town and using the guards to kill one another. The crafting itself is very simple, though learning all the skills needed is overly complicated requiring you to learn one main skill and five sub-skills just to craft the blade for an axe. Crafting, killing other players, and farming animal parts to make money (animal parts being the only thing I've seen merchants give anything for) just won't be enough to hold my interest for very long. |

atm it is a alpha really. but they are a really small team without alot of funding, they have done a great job since block A imo.

the game is going no where, they dug their own grave when they licensed the unreal engine to make a open world, no instanced sandbox. You'd think they would have learned from vanguard (unreal 2 engine). It's obvious that it wasn't designed for this type of gameplay. |

I like sneaking up on an animal with my bow and shooting it... watching someone get bucked off a horse they just tamed.... Depth of the skill system the as close as possible to realism as they can approach to the game Combat is great... Living breathing world... The game is open beta, you can try it out yourself and see what you think.. Game is patching, I'm jumping back in when it's done. Loven it.

Mo and Df are similar in that both games are far too empty not enough content. So the way i look at it,is if both games are sort of boring, does one at least give me anything?answer is yes ,challenging combat in DF. The problem about twitch combat is that you really cannot trust players at all, they do and will look for ways to cheat.I actually stumbled onto a cheat engine site ,players were all gung ho trying to find the hex codes for HP and stuff. The cool thing about DF is that the mobs will stagger step,so even an aimbot can miss them for ranged attacks, melee nope nothing to stop cheats from exploiting melee. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |

Darkfall just does not do it for me...
I'll just say that Mortal Online is looking like what I was hoping Darkfall would be... I'll go farther back and say Mortal Online is looking like what I was hoping Shadowbane would be... Evolution.

People seem to think this game is going some where.. so maybe it will. Darkfall stomps on Mortal Online in it's current state, and anybody who says so otherwise is very misinformed. The combat and first person interface is laggy (the main aspect of this game), there's invisible walls (not at the end of the world), and where the hell is the map to actually show me where I'm going? The only wild life I have seen are animals, no monsters. So I am forced to murder and slaughter artifical animals to level up.. at least in Darkfall the polar bears are angry and trying to KILL YOU rather then you having to run up and kill helpless animals. Don't understand how they can call this crap open beta... way too much work to be done. Unreal 3 engine is supposed to be able to handle a game like this, so maybe it's the developers fault it sucks so bad. Graphics are the only good thing about this game (right now). |

this game is quite a contradiction. It will die a couple months after release, but in a certain way ti was dead even before released... |

I swear that people have never played UO to make that comparison. It's an insult to UO. |

Totally agree with you op. The potential of this game is massive, its amazing what happens when a dev walks in the opposite direction of the industry. The game is definitely not for everyone but I really believe there is a large enough market to support something different. I give them a year yet before the game comes alive with a true "sandbox" feel but they are well on their way.

i have tried DF (but couldnt' stand the graphics even on highest settings) and will not try this game in beta. still i would like to ask: are the graphics any better then DF? is the world just as bland as DF? i have watched a few MO clips here and there but i really can't tell much. some clips look good ,graphic wise, wile others look quite horrible. it seemes to me like inside cities it's quite well done but when you go outside trees/landscape/animals are very unfinished and rough (mind you i will say the same about DF). also you can never tell what setting people are playing with. i guess i have been spoiled playing games like AoC and Aion wich are graphicly amazing. how would you compare MO graphics to DF?

As much as the Darkfall "hater" that I am, Darkfall is a waaaaayyyyyyy more complete and polished game (even at release) than MO is in its current form. Trust me, I was thinking MO was going to be the nail in the coffin for Darkfall, but after trying out the MO beta.... Darkfall has nothing to fear. A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true... |

I gotta agree with the OP, I've been in almost the entire beta: It's been a rollercoaster ride, at one hand it has some really awsome features, the crafting system is the best out there, the pvp is pretty good (getting better. still needs work). Starvault is small and they've done what they can with what they have, I've been critical on the MO beta boards in the past, but things have really been picking up lately. Logging in yesterday and seeing they now have day and night cycle put in, and the sky is just full of stars that actually reflect off the water, looking at the ocean is like looking into the sky at night. You need torches at night, and you can see other players torches glowing in the distance when outside of town. For those of you looking for a real sandbox this game is going to be a treat IF they can hammer out the bugs before release. This is where the roller coaster part comes in, the game does have a fair share of bugs, some really bad one's still there, but then again its still in beta. Again if they can hammer out the bugs before release this game is going to be great. Of all it's features one that seperates it from Darkfall (for those who havent played) is they have a skill/stat limit - meaning you cant be a master of all trades, you have to pick and choose and then master when you pick. a system much more similar to ultima onlines. |
