Downloads the client then the client patches and downloads everything through itself.

I can't find a direct download for the EU client, but I know there is one.

Thing is, you need an active account to download through the patcher.  Since trials only get 7 days, he wants the client ready to go before buying an account.

LOL...now i know why the trial is only 7 days....WILL TAKE THAT LONG TO DOWNLOAD THE CLIENT.  I made the fatal error of purchasing the $1.00 trial and THEN starting the download.  The site explains a little later on in the process that you should NOT do it in this order...DOH.

So anyway....paid the dollar...downloaded the torrent...started the download....estimated time of completion!??.....6 days...and this is on a high speed dsl line!

Man oh man...it is 2010....and this game STILL uses a torrent to download!!??.....tsk tsk tsk.

Now to wait and see if i get to play at all for my dollar.

Well, a torrent is a torrent. A fast way for people without DSL to get something without them shelling out money for servers to host the download from. I think I got the client in about two hours from the torrent.

Well, a torrent is a torrent. A fast way for people without DSL to get something without them shelling out money for servers to host the download from. I think I got the client in about two hours from the torrent.

Took me an hour and a half roughly. *shrug*

I suppose dial up or a low speed connection would be a bad thing to play Darkfall with lol.

I try to use bittorrent to download as much as possible, I like how flexible they are compared to direct download.  When I download something directly it eats up all my bandwidth and the internet is sluggish and my ping gets up to  3k.  I have shitty 1.5mbps DSL so people would bitch all the time if I'm downloading a game that will take like about a day to download. I just throttle the download speed to about half of my max download speed and the internet works fine.   Otherwise I would have to use a download manager and  quit the download every time someone bitched and most likely only be able to download at night.

But even though I talked shit about DF back in the day,  I guess I got caught up in the hate. I may just try this game for shits and giggles because I'm not playing any MMO's right now.

Setup your torrent properly, check for blocked ports and things like that. I am downloading nearing my 6 mbps full speed.

Folks, get off the boat before it sinks.  It hit the iceberg long ago and is barely afloat.  Yes yes, we all desperately want to like the boat, and we love the "idea" of the boat, but this particular one has a giant crack in the hull and is beyond repair.

The one dollar charge would barely cover the credit card operation fee.

AV is not making cash from a trial that charges you a single dollar, you really should take the time to inform yourself of some facts before you post a blatant fabrication, especially when there are already three pages of posts within the thread that explain the reason for the charge and why it is actually beneficial to the game that they have chosen to have the trial program operate in this fashion.

Looks like that in the future we will have to pay and for Demos..I dont wanna start anything..just a thought.

I said in the other thread this is a good move.

It  is a "lowering the barrier to entry", it doesn't matter whether you THINK you hate it or not, for 1 buck you can actually get some real hands on personal playtime.

If you are just going to discount the game out of hand without even trying it then you are a <insert expletive here> , at least go try the game to qualify your point of view and then offer up some constructive criticism, because what you say made the game bad or good is what the developers need to hear to improve the game.

I personally do not know if the game is good or not, haven't tried it yet & wont for a while as too many other things going on to give Darkfall a week, but I fully intend to do so before I pass judgement.

As for the guy who says he'd rather go buy a cheap burger than try a new MMO, fine, why the f**k are you here posting if you aren't interested in MMO's ?

At 1 dollar they are making almost nothing, chump change at best from the trials, the real money will be from the people who get to try the game & find that they in fact find something they enjoyed, even if they weren't sure they would, curiosity is a beautiful thing, but curiosity usually entails stumping up a significant upfront amount of cash, this method does 3 things, keeps out the bulk of the gold spammers, keeps out the bulk of those that do not have the capacity to pay for the game anyway, while lowering the barriers of entry to real potential customers.

My torrent is set up correctly, I get full download speeds its just I when I download at full speed, I have no bandwidth left for browsing. I wouldn't mind if it were just me that had to deal with it, but I have others to think about. So I just throttle my speeds so other people in my house can surf the web and not have a page take forever to show up.

U dont get my point....All started with the damn consoles and the DLCs..The old good days u used get ur game and have full free support(patches,mappacks etc) and u had to pay only for a "normal" good expansion.Now u gotta pay for everything..thats my point.
