I'm still looking for a new MMORPG to play. After 3+ years in Lineage II (which I quitted because of the huge amount of bots and RMT and GMs doing nothing about it) and hopping from one game to the other, I need something stable till FFXIB and/or TERA are released.

Here's what I'm looking for (extensive list)

• Free world PvP , but with rules similar to Lineage II, where a PK has to flee for the law / other players
• No faction based system, unless there's 4 or more factions in it  (this might be interesting for game mechanics)
• The game should take a while to get to the cap, but should not be boring / lonely to get there (party/guild options)
• Quest based system, but not repetative quests (all quests should not be kill x of mob y - variation is required)
• Crafting and gathering system
• Nice looking graphics, Lineage Ii quality or better
• Don't care if it's P2P or F2P
• No SOE of Cryptic games! :D

Think that covers it pretty much. Right now I'm giving Perfect World an other try and am active in EVE, but that'll take a bit to reach the point where PvP gets interesting ;)

EVE or DarkFall, the only requirement neither of these games meets is "Quest-based system" but in exchange offer a much more entertaining gaming experience.

Fallen Earth fits pretty well under your category. It has a free trial, I tried it and I had fun with it.

I forgot one requirement - no 1st person look only. I can't play that at all :(

@ MadNessRealm - Not sure about DF. Heard too much bad things about it and as long as there's no trial (there's not, right?), I won't spend money on a doubt.

@ pepsi1028 - Fallen Earth crossed my mind. Was not sure though. Now that I hear there's a free trial, I might as well give it a try *starts downloading*

It's a shooter type though.  Maybe Roma Victor, Wurm, Horizons, or SWG for old times sake...

World PvP, not faction based, pk's turn red, graphics similiar to L2 in some ways, has a slotting system for gear, free to play and no soe or cryptic.

Thanks for pointing out Archlord. Problem is that I've already given it a try (even in the time it was published by CM and subscription based) and didn't like it that much. When it turned F2P it became worse and with WebZen holding the scepter the quality of the game dropped from bad to worse IMO :(

I know Archlord has all I ask for, but controls are horrid and latency (I'm from Europe) is bad these days.
If Fallen Earth is not what I'm looking for, I might give Archlord an other chance though (and first look how to change controls as I want them to be)

Archlord is a no-go for me...

that's a shame especially since it seems the servers are in Europe. Personally I never did the quests and would just grind the L2 way and used point and click.

Yeah, I'd look into Darkfall.

Games to wait for are Gnostaria, Earthrise, Roma Victor 2, the release of the "complete" Mortal, etc.

 EVE Online, if you like being a ship. But Incarna / Ambulation expansion will add toons when they *eventually* release it at CCP if you want to wait a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion. I love Aion, even though it's a 2 faction based game.
Problem is that I can't play the game because the engine it uses effects me mentally - I get severe headaches and chaos in my head when playing the game :(

...this is also the reason I have too much time at hand - I'm home for long-term sick-leave right now :(

What is with people and the 'omg its not on the xfires list, must be suckage and no one plays!'.  Xfire is not the end all be all of determining game popularity.  Did you know, for instance, that there are a number of games that perform poorly if xfire is running in the background, so people disable it, so there goes your numbers.

Anyways, back on topic, sorry about the rant.  Have you looked into Guild Wars?  It doesn't have open world PvP, but I find it makes for the perfect secondary MMO, or even tertiary (damn you DDO).  It does have a fairly well balanced PvP system though.  Anyways, something to consider.  May not be up your alley, as there are a lot of haters who go on about it being too instanced and therefore not an mmo, but thought I'd toss it out there.

I don't think people realize that not every MMO in the world is supported by Xfire...

If i remember correctly they added bounty bay/voyage century in the last update, that game have been out for years.

Also i would say fallen earth and darkfall are really good options, but something to look forward to is earthrise.

I know this problem, and don't take xfire for granted. Some versions of GameGuard simply prefent a game from running if xfire even tries to detects the game (Dragonica had this problem).

I have a GW account, and it's totally not in my alley. Gave it a try more than once, and though graphics are nice, it's more a Quake II shoot-m-up PvP game than a real MMORPG. Then again, ArenaNet does not consider GW a MMORPG.
And (for me) the worse thing about GW is that PvP is a forced thing in the end. There just is no option other than join a huge guild and take battlegrounds. The whole concept of this kind of forced PvP is not what I'm looking for, though in other games where PvP is a major part of the gameplay I do enjoy to take part in PvP.

Since you say no to Cryptic or SOE the only company I can think of with games that fit your requirements is Mythic.  I would suggest trying Warhammer and/or Dark Age of Camelot, although these are faction based PvP but each faction has its own sub faction/race to choose from, at least 3 in each faction.  To be honest I don't know that many games that have PvP that aren't faction based, factions fight, thats how it is.

Warhammer online is one of the baddies I tried because of the hype. 2 sided faction system, so always ganking..

I agree that there are not that many no-faction games. What comes to mind are the few Lineage clones out there (Perfect World is the best known F2P, and AoC is the latest P2P). That's why I also left a door open for a faction based system with at least 4 factions. Why so many? It makes things interesting. It's not just a lame "if it moves and not one of us then kill it"-system.
Take Fallen Earth I'm playing right now. There are 6 factions to chooce from. 2 are allies, 2 are enemies and one is the archenemy. But what if you party with friends of both your allies..? This would imply that they are amongst enemies in one party.

Anyway... I think I've found my new game. I've played Fallen Earth already for 8 hours, and have lots of fun. Odd quests, material gathering, crafting (required for survival), and best of all the currency used: poker-chips :)

 At least 4 factions you say?

Maybe Fantasy Earth Zero could tickle your fancy. Lol.
