Hello, topic pretty much explains my question. As far as I understood leveling doesn't matter much in STO, you get skill points via questing/exploring so then what I'm interested about is that whether I can max. out all skills or is there any skill cap to prevent that? |

Your question is a bit contradictory. It is impossible for someone to max out all skills if there is no skill cap. If there is no skill cap, there is no way to cap them. |

Yes, there is a set number of skill points. You won't be able to be an expert on everything. You can be a jack of all trades if that is how you want to spend your skills, but you won't excel at anything. MMOs played:SWG,NGE,Warhammer, World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online,Eve, Star Wars the Old Republic. |

Anyone know if the preorder bonuses with extra skill points have the same cap and they're just head starts, or if those toons have a permanent advantage? |

Anyone know if the preorder bonuses with extra skill points have the same cap and they're just head starts, or if those toons have a permanent advantage? The general idea with the gameplay-effecting pre-order items is that they give you an advantage in the early game but not the late game (stated by Jack Emmert on STO forums). This is true for the starships for example. So I suspect it is just a head start on the skill points. In other words, yes you may screw your build. Question is, can you unscrew it? The game is targetted at casual players, and it has been stated that respecs will be availible in the C store for RMT but also available to earn in game. As a CO player I would testify that I have a lot of respecing freedom without buying anything in that game, I suspect STO will be similar. Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation. |
