Those videos are "an idiot's guide to local weather change." Observing the local weather and casting an assumption about global climate change is a non-sequitur, which is common among the uneducated. In truth, it's getting colder because of "global warming", and here's why: The ice caps are melting because of our increased output of greenhouse gases. The ice caps are composed of fresh water. When that fresh water enters the ocean, it dilutes the salt water, causing something called "The Oceanic Conveyor" to slow and possibly stop. When it slows, it snows. When it stops, the world freezes. Certainly, it's natural that the conveyor slows and speeds up in the natural cycles of the Earth, but because of what we're doing, it will eventually stop entirely. One of these years, if we continue to pollute as we do, the conveyor will stop circulating - which will bring about a permanent ice age.
I'm actually laughing at how completely doomed we are. If these videos are any indication of popular belief, I would rather let the ice age come. No species of such deliberate ignorance deserves continued existence in this universe of unlimited scope. |

In all honesty, I have little knowledge of what an impending apocalypse may look like, only of the results of our continued (in)action as an industrious species. If we can survive a very likely permanent winter, I would be happy to know it, but I've gathered that we cannot given we rely on crops for nearly all our food. So that is my vision of an apocalypse, which may change later as more is learned about the situation. I am jumping to a conclusion when I say the world will freeze over any time soon, as we may not actually see any great irreversible changes for another decade or two. My paranoia stems from knowing our collective methods of handling "the great eventuality." It has me genuinely worried, as we don't usually act as a functional collective until it's too late or too many have already suffered. Why am I certain of a coming ice age? Because it's a "true fact." Global temperatures are dropping, which is a direct indication of of the ice caps melting and diluting the ocean. Ice caps are melting because of global warming (our increased production of greenhouse gases has the side-effect of equalizing global atmospheric conditions, making the the ice caps warmer). So in a strange way, global warming = cooler temperatures in light of the function of the oceanic conveyor belt.
Do people know this? In bits and pieces, yes. Global warming is happening, an ice age is coming - both parties are right. What is wrong are their visions of apocalypse: we won't be cooked by rising temperatures, we won't be flooded by the melting ice caps causing a rise in ocean levels. Rather, the world would be frozen when the oceanic conveyor stops, which is the eventual result of the melting fresh water ice caps diluting the salt water in the ocean. The ice caps are retreating less to the poles because of increased greenhouse gases, so the conveyor will eventually be diluted to the point of stopping. The pseudo-ice age is part of a natural cycle, but we are experiencing it too early and changes are happening too rapidly according to previously collected data. This was not the data that was botched in "climategate" by those irresponsible "scientists" and in fact is contradictory to what they had fabricated as evidence (they were trying to hide this decline).
Is this the whole truth? I don't know, there may be a more precise cause detected later as research continues. What is known for certain is that increased greenhouse gases are causing the ice caps to melt, and while we are a cause of that increase, we may also be able to stop and reverse it if we act soon enough. |

The Ice Caps have refrozen. they are now larger then they have been in 100's of years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5j4QstRsSg here you go look at the Ice caps. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bcv983b-EDU

I am not unwilling to believe Youtube sources, even though they are not credible at times. RT news is a bit subjective from my experience and the administration of the University of Illinois can be untrustworthy as they are motivated by money (link, check #2). I am finding that mainstream and popular sources (such as History, Nat Geo, Discovery / Science channel, Animal Planet, etc.) tend to be polluted with a commercialized agenda, so they are just as unreliable in a statistical sense.
However, the U of I presentation of ice density is inconclusive. It shows results, not methods or causes, and the results pretty much point to a gradual loss of surface area from the first "peak" slide to the last in 97. My own sources tell me that the ice caps have lost density and have picture proof to the contrary of what that youtube video implies (NOAA, AAAS, etc.). When I get my scanner working (or find an ebook copy of the proper issues somewhere) I'll post them here if I don't forget. |

I can believe without a doubt that we are not the main factor in global warming, as it is very much a natural cycle. So I do agree with you there. However, we are a contributor in "catastrophic global warming / climate change", and we may cause our own demise through (unintentionally) tampering with this cycle. There is a higher concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere than before, possibly by about 2-3% pre-industrial age - and while that seems very small, it may be all that is needed to turn this from a naturally passing climate change to a catastrophic one. So it has been said, "A single grain of sand can tip the scale." Is the Earth such a sensitive instrument that every grain must be accounted for and controlled? Of that I am not certain, but it certainly seems the case.
As for the political and societal effects of this global climate change scare, I think the carbon footprint / Cap and Trade maneuver is completely unnecessary. I'm certain that people would be more willing to believe our role and possible roles in controlling climate change if it was not making life potentially more difficult for them. Climate change is more attractive to the elite than the rest of the world because of these maneuvers, which is, if I may say, absolutely foolish. How can a handful of greedy morons hope to avert a scientific crisis that involves everyone? More laws? What good have more silly laws ever done anyone except lawyers and politicians?
Also, I agree. Tesla roadsters are awesome.
The name makes it even better. <3 Tesla |

Ice Caps are melting huh...guess you should go check out NASA's site that said they made a mistake and did not account for 600 spuare kilometers that puts the levels of ice in the norms. |
