Reasons in no particular order:

 

  • No trade to speak of - spamming the trade channel is yikes! - there should be traders in each town - how could a game possibly be "sanbox" when trade is tedious to say the least...
     
  • Stupid mount mechanics - you always have to hide your mount because someone can steal it in plain sight of guard towers and without repercussions of any kind. You can't even kill the thief... Absurd! ...  A medieval MMO where you cannot even ride into a town ... c'mon horse stealing was one of the most punished crimes for this exact reason, Why the F  can't you ride into town like a normal warrior...
     
  • Too many ways to grief players - jumping in front of their shots just to turn them gray - instant war declarations with clans of size one just to gank someone who is crafting
     
  • Silly drop based economy, lack of resource variety (aggravated even more by the lack of trade)- why do all bushes drop everything? Why not spread various  nodes around and require people to do some exploring and find some interesting areas. Right now everyone mines around towns, around towers. Make nodes drop a lot more stuff but put them some ways from towns, that way it is a mini game to get the resources. Right now it is mindnumbing, you end up mining while alt tabbed ... it is not a game anymore
     
  • Grindy quests - kill 200 goblin scouts, 200 fighters and N shamans (forgot how many?) - that;s just one of the 7 title 1 quests, then I guess the same for title 2 and 3. Gimme a break. Goblins are no challenge, looting them is way too boring, they spawn very slowly and if there is one more person there - good luck fighting over each spawn ...

Didn't work for you ..no problem in that.

Not a single point of that ones you listed would have given me reason to even count them as negative.

Trade is fine for me,if anything is needed then  they should make trading harder IMO so people just own what they gathered / looted  themselves but i guess that's too hardcore for some.

Mount stealing is good, show your mount  in city's has been balanced by the possibility of it gets stolen. Also i don't want mounted only people riding around all of the time.

Going gray, is annoying hitting 2x the same blue target is stupid. Some valuable lessons to learn from these game mechanic, i think that mechanic teached me something even for my real life. An excellent game mechanic i don't want to miss.

Resources are random for balancing issues, because all players can be everywhere and gear is so easy to get lost (speak getting killed and ganked ;) ) the resources to replace that gear must be nearby too. Imagine King Manus (just to name a long gone DF threat :P)  let his henchmen killing you in starter city x, and evily laugh at you and say.."come on over here to get your iron dude..its the only iron on the server right now and you can't make metal armor..just come over here for a warm welcome...no need to worry..c'mmon..we waiting for you..i ll promise i ll let you mine that iron stones providing our 500 men good iron and armor..just head towards us..we will be here..and bring something ...ehem..valuable with you while you on the way "  

Titles quest might be the most rewarding quests but they are a tiny amount of availbale quests and are meant to be long lasting. There are many more quests requires from you to just kill 5 -10  critters.

All in all DF seems to be miles away from being a balanced game, let alone a sandbox. Although the last two expansions leave some hope that, given enough time, the Devs will correct many of its shortcomings...

Because I read posts, watch videos and compare with my Beta experience to see what seems changed and what not....

 

and the questions I asked were mainly technical, things that I can't readily check in videos (well, except sound)

Why does anyone feel the need to tell us when they leave? I could care less. Someone really needs the attention if they go to these lengths. If you get this upset over a game to come and rant about what you dislike, you have more problems than what you think are bad mechanics.

I had a simliar impression of Darkfall...Its not quite worth the $15 dollars a month to play for me in the state it is now.

What OP is doing here is writing up his experiences about the game. People have no problems when someone writes up a pleasant experience. Why ask why if the experience is negative?

Because it was quite interesting experience with DF, and different way of looking at DF. It should be warning to others who want to try DF: Playing solo and living in NPC cities isn't really fun.

In Mortal Online or Ultima Online NPC cities are great place for carebears and independant, solo players to hang out. In DF they are not good for anyone, but we've got plenty of alternatives: player cities, player hamlets, player houses, keeps and chaos cities.

Real adventure begins while you leave safety of towers, and the only way to be safe from griefers is to join a strong clan.

Almost none of the problems mentioned by OP will ever be fixed. Most players see them as not important.

IMO there is one conclusion from the whole discussion: AV should release free trial.

While the OP concerns may not be factors to you, or to a handfull of others, it seems that they are more than non-factors to quite a few people on Darkfall's own forums.

To think that they will go away by ignoring them, or by patronizing the poster, is at best being disingenuous.

 

Besides, Avenurines willingness to listen to it's playerbase has long been touted as the best in the industry.

This is just minor starter problems, and no reason to quit Darkfall. When your char grows up, you`ll

-Trade with your clan/alliance

-Lose your horse when you die

-no grief, just war

-Awsome drops from every enemy you kill / zerg

-No grind

 

The problem at the moment (in my opinion), is to get your char to a decent level. When AV fix that Darkfall is ready. Darkfall is a pvp sandbox, and it`s pure fun.

I like Darkfall, I play Darkfall, but I agree with you.

Darkfall is an awesome game with lot of potential, but it is not perfect, and whoever thinks the opposite is delusional.
Of course non of the issue arised are game breaking for me, although the economy and trade system need a fix ASAP in my opinion.

Let's put it this way, if AV can fix the issues you mentioned, DF could become a real cult MMO.

AV does listen to DF players, just not to all of them.

When you'll see reasonable suggestion of someone who joined forums in 2002, and few clan leaders supporting it - you'll find suggested change in next patch or expansion. I could give hundreds of examples - from renaming bags to raising physical protections on full plate.

AV won't make game much better for solo players, and won't improve NPC cities considerably. Why bother - solo experience in WoW is much better, and will stay much better no matter what AV will do.

It is called fanaticism and it is never good, you can't discuss with religious zealots, neither with die hard fans.
