That is laughable, man...laughable. I don't buy games as charity, and certainly don't play them that way. If I want to give to charity, I will do so to a legitimate cause. Not some game company afraid of going under. ________________________________ Everything born must die. All that is, will come to ruin. This is the essence of Doom. So sayeth the Doomsayer. |

In theory it seems like a good idea to support a game with great potential if you have some extra cash, but with the game this far from a proper release only real business investments would be sufficient. In other words, if you do the arithmetic, there is no way that fans pre-buying the game will by itself sustain the development to a retail release. Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation. |

No offense, but if they didn't delay the game a month it would be dead far sooner than a year. I think that having an extra month is actually critical to MO's longevity, though given the patchnotes I just saw -- I still think it won't last very long. Time will tell, but if they want to charge a triple A price, I expect a triple A game. You don't charge more money for a car that does less, do you? |

Its not the players' responsability to ensure a game gets funded, we are consumers, not investors. If I envest money into a game, I'd like to get a cut of the profits when its out. But since thats not happening, why dump money into this? If they are this desperate and this is really the only way they can stay afloat, I agree with evilgreen5, this will tank, sooner or later. And that would be a shame, because I really want this game to succeed.

By paying a subscription you're effectively investing in the game, without subscribers subscription based based games wouldn't opperate. In effect you're an investor when you pay a monthly fee for something. It's more a matter of whether or not you feel the product is worth your investment by way of paying that monthly fee. Peronsally, I highly recommend this game. |

When I pay every month to codemasters for lotro, Im not investing into the game, Im paying for a finished product. I agree with your opinion of MO, but even if I had money to throw around (which I dont atm) I still wouldnt pay to beta or whatever it is they are calling it. When / if the game is ready, I'll buy it, or not, depending on the information at the time.

I agree with this entire statement. I pay for "finished" products as well. My job didnt pay me to go to school and they certainly wouldn't have hired me before i recieved my degree. I didn't pay my car company to finish building my car to ensure it wouldn't stop working on my way to work.
Gaming companies are taking advantage of their targeted market, gamers, by starting to have them pay for early access. We can only blame ourselves for allowing this to become a trend, and the way it is starting to look, the standard. I want to play the game as well, but i will not pay them to finish their product. The "payoff", for the company, is the subscriptions, after they put out a quality product. Not before.
Imagine if every business company had such practices. Seriously. I wish i could go and half ass something and get paid for it. It's so ridiculous. Who fails to see how ridiculous this is? It makes my head hurt... The only counter argument i can think of would be, "its my money and i'll spend it on whatever i want". Go right ahead. I will check the official site, but I don't want to bother with also having to check Facebook and Twitter, or whatever else they might think is "cool", because it isn't." Axxar |

Does Mortal Online have no instancing and World PVE/PVP? It would be something if there was a real MMORPG that came out.. |

even if the game was discounted to 1 penny, i wouldn't buy it. it's that bad
that's my opinion. and my opinion does not reflect the opinions of anyone else. just saying i really dislike this game. and people thought Aventurine and DF were bad.... if you plan on getting this game, be prepared for an unpleasant surprise. |

I'm sorry sir, but your logic is incredibly flawed... Have you ever heard of SaaS (Software as a Service)? MMORPGs are basically the definition of SaaS. It is up to the company to fund their own projects and receive support from investors (the investors invest their own money because they plan to receive a portion of the monetary gain, not because they get to use the service for paying the company a monthly fee). The consumer has nothing to do with the company's expenses. Consumers are there to bring in profit. Investors are there to collect on some of that profit. |

I played MO about a month ago, and it was (by my own opinion) a piece of garbage. I suggest waiting until SV offers a free trial (or a completely OPEN beta, not this limited alpha) before giving them any of your hard-earned cash. I'm not trying to prevent anyone from buying a game that they might enjoy playing. I'm just pointing out that this game is not worth the money in its current condition. |
