Do MMO developers never learn? If the Klingons are not ready then do not release the game with them as a playable race. Save them for an expansion and complete the content for them. |

This sounds just like "Monster Play" in LOTRO, and that is, w/o, LOTRO's weakest link and why I no longer play the game. It's PvP-lite, half-hearted PvP. Ugh.
I see the future. In it, MMORPG.com in late 2010 will be discussing just how on earth Cryptic ruined the Star Trek IP. |

While personally I have no interest to play Klingons, I bet it will create a BIG flamewar of angry (former) fans, and it will most certainly cause a huge dent in the popularity of STO. There are many people who feel real PVP based on two real, stand-alone factions is integral to a MMO. I say that as someone who personally does not like PVP much, but mark my words, that will drop the interest in STO for many! I have heard that often enough in Champions, why there was no Villains and Villain PVP like in CoH. So essentially Klingons are Monsterplay. A bit of a letdown in this "great vision" that STO could have been. I feel a MMO should indeed have 2 or more factions. Even if you dont do PVP often, the mere existence of two factions in games like EQ2 or WOW sure spiced those games up a lot, even if you do PVP very seldom. Not to speak of replayability. Bad move, Cryptic, bad bad move, even if you yourself never planned to play Klingon. Such an antagonims is fuel for your doings. It just confirms what I have said many times: making one MMO is daring, but making two MMOs almost at the same time is WAY too much for any company. So instead of one really well done we get two mediocre one. *sigh* Way not to go, Cryptic. I mean sure STO will have its followers, but looking at CO I see MASSIVE player loss the last weeks, and while no bad game, CO is just way too mediocre. After 2 months or 3 if you play slow you just have seen all, and I fear STO may be quite the same. Alas. Well, at least its another filler until SWTOR comes, teh.

My thoughts exactly! I see massive suicides coming when that is confirmed, lol. :/

Originally posted by mach789 Keep in mind that you can still form fleets (guilds), trade, craft and do everything else that the Federation will be able to do, just minus the PvE portion. Well, I was hoping to be able to play the Klingons, but since I really suck at PvP I won't have much fun at all playing that "faction." |

A true Klingon warrior does not do quests! This is actually quite interesting but who are the Klingon's going to be fighting - each other or Federation? |

Perhaps I'm nitpicking, but does neither the person who wrote this news piece nor their editor know the difference between "confirmed as pvp only" and "almost entirely pvp"? I mean, you directly link a quote where they say there is already a tad bit of pve and they may add more. How about some accuracy if you're going to claim to be a reliable news source? On the topic at hand, initially I was disappointed on hearing this. However, as a friend of mine pointed out, considering their whole faction is based around pvp, perhaps they will be playable in new and interesting ways. It could turn out to be pretty fun. So if you play Klingon you get half the game, if you play federation you get the whole game. Sounds shitty to me. |

Yea... here is your answer also. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6243795.html This really lends credence to a NWN MMO, that of course as Crpytic is the MMO company for Atari, Cryptic would be working on.
I really hope that Cryptic hasn't Gumped their way into developing a NWN MMORPG. I loved NWN and I think Bioware did an outstanding job on the game. That being said I hate NWN2. Bioware gets us pregnant with a great game and then leaves us, and throws the sequel to Obsidian who haven't put out a decent game in quite some time. The only reason I don't dislike Obsidian as a whole as much as I dislike Cryptic as a whole is that Obsidian has the decency to only push their ineptitude on us every few years, where as Cryptic can't crap out sub par games fast enough. I've been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid, but I don't think I'm going to play this game. Maybe I'm wrong and Cryptic will wow us all and bring balance to the for... I mean live long and prosper.

I was really looking forward to playing a Klingon. Having read Kahless all those years ago, I love the idea of being a brutal and honorable warrior in space, and Warf being my favorite character from TNG, I just have to play a Klingon (can we make Klingon characters if we're Federation?). But it's not gonna happen any time soon. I was thinking there would be at least three factions to choose from: Federation, Klingon, and other (Romulans, Cardassians, or ??).
Still, I might get the game. Undecided at this point. But definitely disappointed by this news ... |

I must admit there is some logic in this. I mean as a Federation guy you can imagine to do many missions: explore some analomies, make peace in some conflict, cultural exchange... but as Klingons its... well war. Can you imagine doing any mission with a Klingon that does involve no killing and "glory of war"? Thats the downside of the entire Trek universe, if I may say: many races are quite single-minded.

The thing is plain and simple that Cryptic is rushing the game out the door. Why have different factions if your not going to flesh out those factions at launch? You are basically hoping enough suckers will buy your game and stick with it long enough for you to justify having to put in content that people wanted from the get go. I have a relative in beta and he was so upset at the direction the game was taking he quit testing it. He said the space battles were cool, but that all the other content was just boring and not really well done. So, I guess all we are going to do is shoot each other in space when the game comes out. I will never understand why Cryptic can take a game that is a sure fire win and screw it up. They did it with Champions and their doing it with Star Trek. |
