All I will say is that this is the same combat engine as was going into the MMO. It won't be any fun....trust me. Let's party like it is 1863! |

They probably should have been smart enough to shut the project down many many months ago when things were obviously spiraling downward (and, for the record, that was before the economy collapsed). Now they're attempting to salvage some income from their current assets which would be almost totally worthless to anyone else. Personally, I would just file chapter 7 and say good night Irene, but to each his own. What I don't like is how they repeatedly lie about the status of SGW and their company when everyone can see right through all their announcements. It's aggravating and makes them seem like unprofessional hucksters in a way that would scare me away from any projects these people are involved with in the future (in a decision-making or PR capacity). I seriously pity their investors for being gullible enough to fund this facade of an MMORPG for so long. People need to know when it's time to cut their losses and not believe the continual BS of the people they're paying to fail (nice work, if you can get it). |

I'd still like to see a SGW MMO sometime in the future, so if they can get something working that will fund their further operation, I say go for it. Based on past history, I would place any bet on it, but it would be nice if they can pull it off. However, I personally won't pay for anything from them until I can try it first and like it. |

Originally posted by Stradden Hey, it's called a column. It's commentary upon a pre-existing issue. If it was new information, it wouldn't have been a column. It would have been news. So, yeah, feel free not to like it, but it does help to understand the context of what you're reading before flaming. Thanks
Some commentary: "It might work, it might not. We'll see. Too soon to tell. Here's what others are saying". Very personal and informative. "Hey, I watched the news yesterday and some people were talking about President Obama's Nobel speech. Some liked it, and some didn't. It might have a positive effect...but, then again, it may not. I guess we'll see." Look, ma, I'm a "columnist"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tune in for my next few columns: "PvP vs. PvE. Eh, I could go either way", followed by "RMT: What do forum goer's think?", and finishing with my scintillating column/review titled "A new game released, and some people are playing it".
If it wasn't meant to provide us with any new insight, information, or even "thought" into the matter, and was simply intended as "commentary" on a news item...then why not post in the thread for the original news item? You know, the thread that comes with EVERY news item on this site. The ones that invite you to "comment on this article". Why the whole front page, column treatment for something now indicated as a "comment" on preexisting news. And I'm sorry if it seems like flaming...it isn't meant as personal, and it doesn't wish for failure...it's simply very strong criticism of the "news" aspects of this site, which I want would very much like to see excel. |

One more "comment": While I myself wasn't confused about the intent of the piece, I understand if there was a concern about it being misread as "news". After all, it is listed under the "news" tab at the top of the site. And, the thread for discussing the "column" IS in the "news discussion" forum. And, its smack dab in the middle of the list on the left side of the page with all of the links to "news" articles, instead of residing in the "column" section of the front page only. Changing any of that, and/or adding words to the title such as "general" (like some articles here do), or, even more clearly, terms like "opinion piece", "commnetary", or "editorial" might help prevent any possible confusion over "news" and not news as well. Again...not necessary for me...but there's worry that it might not be clear, perhaps some of the above might help. |

I think the main problem with Star Gate Worlds is that it looks almost NOTHING like Star Gate. It really doesn't. It has almost none of the feeling that the shows (or movie for that matter) seem to evoke. They LOOKED like they were going in a good directions, but over the past year the game has slowly started looking less and less like Star Gate and more and more like Halo the MMO. It seems like a once stunning ice sculpture floating in the pacific ocean slowly melting and morphing into a hideous blob. Switching gears and working on Resistance? That is just a clear sign that the team has lost focus. I have seen it before. If they can recoup and refocus then more power to them, but if they cannot get their acts together then they need to hand the reigns over to someone else. Someone more invested in the IP and in getting the product done. That said, I really hope that Star Gate can get a game made that really sows together all the many great elements that make the show worthwhile. -Tatsu Oyama |

No kidding. As much as I love SG-1, and for that matter Ben Browder and Claudia Black, the last two seasons... did they exist? |

There's no way they could use the exact combat engine that was in SGW. That was turn based. They're going to have to make the new game twitch.

Planetside was initially supposed to be a very different game as well, with many more mmo elements than the game that was released. However, it was awesome until SOE improved it with mechs, much later on. Stargate might still end up being a wicked game! |

Really all I would need is the ability to duck for cover and mmo assets (as he said) to really want to give this a try. The story line makes sense already for a type of dungeon game play we have gotten used to in mmo's. They need to make it more fps than mmo dice roll imo though. If I hide behind a wall I also insist that enemy fire does not some how go right through walls like we see in most mmo's. If you make that happen I might try it out. |

They better be damned sure about what they're doing... otherwise they'll end up with this. If they copy TF2 mechanics and fun they may be able to pull it off. "There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain." |
