We went down to Las Vegas to see Mytheon. After some significant hands-on time and some long Q&A with the core team behind this game, we have the scoop on this MMO that is a bit unlike anything you've tried before.

The game revolves around Power Stones, which players collect like trading cards. From these power stones almost all the game’s abilities are derived. The classes simply determine the style of play. Warcasters tend to cast lots of minions, Elementalists rely more on buffs and debuffs, while Eidolon are a bit of a hybrid, with a bent towards healing.

These Power Stones are arranged like decks of cards. Players can have hundreds of them, but assemble them into smaller decks for specific scenarios. This allows players to tailor their experience and role in a party.

As of a couple weeks ago, the game featured 190 stones. Each instance allows only 40 stones on one character at a time. They are drawn at random, like a deck of cards, so there is no telling which specific cards from that deck will be available at any given moment. It creates a disincentive to just toss extra stones in at random and rewards those who build well planned decks.

Read it all here.

Game lookes fun, but with that camera it was nearly unplayable! - With large enemies i cant even see the damage numbers.

When they fix that, i think it could become a nice and funny F2P Game.

I didn't have enough time to play in game to agree with that.

The main problem I have after reading this though is the fact that it seems to have ripped off a lot of Wizard 101s game mechanics

I was actually thinking the same thing as I reading the preview.  I also noticed some of the same terminology..."pips".

Card games are ok for a board game, but not a MMO.  While I can see they are trying for something different in the genre, it just does not work for me.

My first thought as well, which I think is a good thing. I enjoy Wizard 101s gameplay, but not so much the young theme.

Petroglyph are great! Trust them to bring you a good game to the table. If it's a fraction of how addictive Earth and Beyond was, this MMO might do well for the F2P area.

I disagree. Card games are perfect for online multiplayer games. If you have ever played a game of Magic The Gathering with a large group of players then you would know how enjoyable and addictive it is.

Would have been interesting, but personally, I'm seriously not a fan of greek mythology and egyptian is only slightly above it. So yeah, gonna have to pass purely on theme alone.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

We were glad that mmorpg.com was able to come to our studio and see the game. They had a great time and as you can see from the review, are excited about Mytheon! One thing we wanted to point out is that the game is NOT an MMO, it is an ARPG - Action RPG.

how does the game world work? are there linear levels or open areas?
is it similar to the "world" of diablo?

i love the RTS and card game elements, but the fact that it isn't a MMO turns me off a little :/

Unfortunately, I stop reading at "collectible card games." I  was kind of looking forward to this from the trailers and because it's Petroglyph, but eh... I guess I'll pass this time around.
