Probably because, apart from the original Stargate movie, the Stargate franchise is stupid, derivative, boring, and pathetic. Also, just so you know, if Star Trek and Star Wars never existed then Stargate would never have existed.
Star Trek and StarWars are much bigger than stargate, in every sence. They are also produced by much bigger companies that enjoy alot of fame and can gain access to parts of advertising that SG just can't. That said, i personally, enjoy Stargate MORE than any of the Star Trek series or Starwars saga. As to Xonder123's remark. If SGW is stupid, derivative, boring and pathetic, why are you posting in this thread? Surely, this makes you equally so? Hmm? So back to your cage troll and kindly stay there. Stargate is also relatively new to the world, even tho the movie was released some time ago.. starwars was released an awful long time ago... I can remember going to see empire strikes back in the cinema when i was 7... and only paying a 60p door fee. All said and done tho, i think Stargate is more of a realistic fiction than either of the other two and whilst i enjoyed the new star trek movie and the series of startrek with jon archer at the helm, the rest of it goes in the mental bin for me. Starwars... Don't really like they way they portrayed ole vader, I always thought he was a nice guy. Life is about Living, Sleep is about Dreaming, Games are about Strategy! |

I never said that SGW was anything. I have no knowledge of that game, thus I'm not inclined to bash it. If fact, I'm for it simply because it's a sci-fi MMO in a universe of fantasy MMOs and we need more sci-fi MMOs. However, I do think that Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are stupid, derivative, boring and pathetic. The original Stargate movie was great, and these shows lacked any of the heart and soul that made that movie good. |

Hmm, is it just me or does the screenshots from that appear to use the same models/textures and general gfx as we saw in SGW during the dead beta?

It just figures, the creators shelve Stargate worlds in favor of a fps. Personally I was looking forward to stargate worlds. But it seems the challenge was just to much to handle. Sadly the game will gather dust and be forgotten like so many other promising games. |

Well put, i was thinking the same thing. I can also say that SG series has much stronger roots in actual history, closer feel to our current technological advances, unique plotting involving edgey theories and religious belief bases, and killer enemies!! (If only I was smart enough to create my own games!!!) |

I think the real issue I have with this new game is the fact that they are delaying the game I want to play for a game that looks no better. They want to compete in the fps space with game that looks 4 or 5 years old. That was an issue I had with Stargate Worlds, and now it's been carried over to SG:R. I highly doubt even if it is polished that it will do as well as they hope it does...simply because it is not up to the same level of other AAA games of today. Both games are going for a realistic style. There is no attempt to make it stylized or non-realistic...and so the attempt at the realistic looking graphics seems to fall short. Basically, I don't think they can realistically compete at the level they way to compete at, and they are relying too heavily on the Stargate franchise to pull them through. |

Not bashing the game either. SG-U is a pretty awful show, frankly. Not true to the spirit of the previous series at all. Mostly a soap opera in space. Those communication stones are a huge mistake plot-wise, as well. "" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2 |

I see the original movie as a parallel universe. The story happen in both but with different genetic characters. That said, I always wondered who would be cast in the roles of Major Sam Carter and Teal'c opposite James Spader and Kurt Russel. This I pondered with thier parallel universe episode when alternate versions of the SG1 team started coming through the gate.
The differance I was sad was lost between movie and series was how grand and exotic Ra was and the fact he was an alien biped rather than a gut snake. The other System Lords should have followed in suit. Oh well, limited TV budgets.
I was not keen on SG-U when I read the premise. My first thought was the producers were going to do Star Trek: Voyager in the SG universe. Now I see SyFy pressure has forced them to make it in a Battlestar Galactic style which is why you see it not following in style to the former series. As it marches on it will probably soften and fall back to thier old production standard. The first season of these kinds of shows are usally rocky. It could improve. They have now established thier first major antangonist in the doctor. I want to see what happens with that and the alien ship he is stuck with. If you stil can't stand the show after all is said, be thankful it will only run 5 years. Syfy (hate the new moniker) only lets a series run that long coupled with other bone headed mistakes along the way.
I have to say, however, SG-U is not a very good vehical to help promote SGW to the fans. |

This, presumably, is in order to get at least some cash out what they had built so far, in order to pay the various lawsuits, not to mention wages, they owe? If so, seems like a good move that if popular, could get the staff and backers back on track. Any SG game is better than NO SG game in my book! :) "When people don't know much about something, they tend to fill in the blanks the way they want them to be filled in.
