I'd really like to see an MMO with the whole block/attack combat scheme seen in the Zelda series. With bow shooting working in a similar manner. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/24473.html So simple but provingly fun. Add in some ability-swings or blocks, and you'd strike gold imo. If there is/has been one, obviously it didn't do too well, because I haven't played it. I think AoC kinda tried to do this but failed terribly at it. Darkfall maybe did too? Idk. If a n64 game can do it why can't games today, eh? Plus, it'd be a refreshing change from the 50 button at the bottem of your screen combat scheme we're all so used to. |

Maybe if I'm going to have my Xfire profile up, I should start using Xfire... |

Personally, I love the idea and with no levels or upgrades other than new weapons that are simply different than more powerful, it could work. However, it could also suffer without a steady flow of content because once you play through it all, without some form of active progression with scaling enemies (enemies would get tougher but we all know that once you play a boss and know how to beat it, there isn't much reason to replay), it could suffer a bit. No, I don't think a form of progression such as leveling or attribute points would fit well with the Zelda-style combat. Then again the fun of Zelda bosses are that they're amazingly crafted puzzles as well as just bosses. |

Where did I mention the absense of leveling? What? |

You didn't. That's my opinion. Add a sense of leveling and it kills all that classics like Zelda worked for. Not to mention, bosses like in games like Zelda would be epic. There's simply no challenge to MMO bosses in that sense. No great tactic to create. Just go in and kill the shit out of it. |

N64 did it because it didn't have to take into consideration network connectivity. It's a whole new ball game when it comes to implementing that kind of active combat in an MMO, with loads of people running around, all experiencing different levels of lag. That said, there are a few games that do it. Darkfall and Mortal Online are two of the main ones that come to mind. I believe Dungeons and Dragons Online does it as well, although I'm not sure about blocking. I know it has active dodging/aiming, though. |

would love to see a mmo having combat mechanics like zelda... aka real time. the only zelda ive played is super nes . it adds more human skill to it .
maybe no level... just gears with varieties of stats and elements. fire, flame, ice, poison ect...
oh and mabinogi heroes seems close to it but not sure if its really a mmo or just a insance lobby based. |

Actually a few months back i made a prototype multiplayer Zelda : A link to the past clone (using XNA, was eventually going to port it to Java). It had pretty much the same gameplay mechanics except for one big difference: You aimed with your mouse, every weapon had a specific arc (so different weapons would be better in different situations) and you was able to block with right click (if you had a shield). Archery was pretty cool too as you could hide behind obstacles on the demo map i made to protect yourself from arrows etc. Some day i might finish this as it would be one hell of a cool game (in a sandbox environment of course) |

I'd assume it playable if everyone is under 100ms. If the only way to get the job done is to punish those above 100ms, well, why not? X_X Maybe 150..... |
