In a move sure to surprise a few fans out there, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment today announced a new third person shooter based in the Stargate Universe called "Stargate Resistance". The announcement was made on a newly launched website for the game, which also features a letter by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment's Chris Klug explaining the game's premise and why the company has been silent on the game until now:
In the same letter, Klug confirms that the studio is still working on Stargate Worlds, saying:
As for Stargate Resistance's features, players will be pit against each other as either the Stargate Command or System Lords, with the ability to select from up to six different classes, and will feature a number of game modes such as Team Deathmatch, Capture the Technician and Domination. Stargate Resistance will be available exclusively on the PC platform and is scheduled for a Q1 2010 release date. For more information on the game, including minimum and recommend system specifications, check out the official Stargate Resistance FAQ here. Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

Well at least we have two chances now instead of one to get a Stargate game. |

Resistance sounds like a quick cash grab. Q1 2010 for a game we've never heard of? Yeah, definitely a cash grab. Cash from both the players who buy Resistance...and investors reassured by the release of an actual product. No doubt the money is needed for SGW to see the light of day. |

Ugh. Enough of the FPS's already. They're played out. How about some innovation. FPS's were fun back in the Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake days, but man, time marches on. Sadly videogames don't. |

They should've done this in the first place, and I'll give it a shot, especially if it means they launch SGW in one piece. Why they attempted an MMO without an intial revenue is beyond me. Everything I've heard and seen from SGW makes me believe it could be an enjoyable game so I hope this leads to them getting the funds to keep it going. Cash grab? Sure, but all games are and if it isn't a ridiculus price and it's fun who the heck cares?

I hope they do get some revenue from this. It sounds OK for a FPS or TPS, whatever. I so miss Duke Nukem. I have enjoyed SGU even if its not quite the same as SG1 or SGA. I really hope the franchise can bounce back and get this MMO going. Its a perfect format for a MMO. MGM needs this one to work and get them out of the hole. Good luck CME. Just do your best. |

At 33, I have been fascinated with the Stargate Franchise since I first saw the movie. i have always daydreamed about a massive RPG (on console preferably), both space and planet oriented. A story line that is indicitive of the early sitcom series, trials and tribulations of opening the universe in front of us, prior to fortifiying our alliances/ enemies. I will be buying this game, and the next in hopes that profit and popularity bring more and different Stargate Franchise Games. I suggest we all do the same, and maybe even buy it for a friend also. I have never understood how Star Trek/ Star Wars became huge Franchises and Stargate did not. Thanks for the space to rant, hehe... |

You are splitting hairs. It's the same genre regardless of what perspective the camera is in. I'll probrably get it if it's not insanely priced, just to play a stargate game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you can't beat 'em, hold 'em off 'till you come up with a better plan. |

They play so differently that in many games, with a flick of the switch you can go from Third Person to First Person. Just like you can turn Chess into an MMORPG. *headdesk* The position of the camera, a genre does not make. |

This is true, the main difference between mmorpg and a shooter, 3rd or fps whatever you like to call it, is usually the lack of RP... ie, it's all about the speed with which you can kill and opponent and the whole game is generally, exactly that, 2 or more teams all fighting each other. For various or singular goals. The position of the camera is meaningless, as in many mmo's or fps games you can switch the camera between 1st and 3rd prospective.
To the topic in hand, it certainly looks like resistance was never a game they were ever working on, from the graphics, i'd say it would be a good guess to say that the game is infact sgw. It is just sgw without the roleplay, without the massiveness, with no other worlds to gate to or crafting or shops etc. It is a modified version of the combat aspect of sgw. And as most have guessed, it's obviously a cashcow, i also agree that it is one we should all welcome and use it to do what we can to support the full and final release of sgw. If you disagree with me, feel free to go and buy resistance and you can then shove my boot up... yeh yeh... come get some!
Good ole duke! Life is about Living, Sleep is about Dreaming, Games are about Strategy! |

I need to see maybe a gameplay video but the combat looks a lot like what is planned for the MMO version. If that is the case, I don't want anything to do with this game. But, again, I will with hold my judgement until such video is released. Let's party like it is 1863! |

I'll be sure that I'll buy this game , If it help the development of SGW . But , I think , this is a wrong move from the developers . With only a year and a half , maybe , minimum , before the possible release of SGW , they should keep it all their resources for SGW , in my opinion . I hope that both of them will succceed and will be great games , but I don't think so .

Probably because, apart from the original Stargate movie, the Stargate franchise is stupid, derivative, boring, and pathetic. Also, just so you know, if Star Trek and Star Wars never existed then Stargate would never have existed. |

SGW is dead it has like 2 people working on it and it will never see the light of day Cheyenne don't have or will never have the money to finish it. As far as this load of pile it looks like the last throw of the dice for Cheyenne to try and make some money for the millions they owe investors before they get wound up. Playing: Tera, Guild Wars |
