I'd play it if it wasn't exactly competitive but more of something fun... I'm not exactly sure how to explain. Semi-sandbox i guess. |

I would play with only one character slot if the skill system was set up like MxO's. You bought the skills and put points gained from levelling in a tree, but could hit a phone-booth at any time and reset your skills and put them into anything else you had bought. If you were kung-fu and wanted something a little different, put em in Aikido. If you wanted something completely different, put them in guns or hacker (caster). If your group needed heals, put em in whatever the healing tree was. I liked this system because it encouraged because expirimentation and you never had to replay the game (the levelling bit at least) just to play a different role. A similair system would be necessary for me in a game with only one character slot. Even if I was in love with the class/role I picked, I'd be locked out of a large portion of the game. I could roll something else on another server but why play a healer on a different server if my friends were on my mains' server? |

I would like to put all my effort into one character. It would be important that the system was set up to advance one tree of skill in the beginning, but once you max that area you could go work on something other skill, rather than going and creating an alt. Just give us a big enough bank to store all the items that go along with this type of system. |

I wouldnt mind at all, I normally do play only one character. I put all my effort into learning the best way to play that character's class and continually improve that one character. Gives you a real edge knowing your character so well when it comes to PvP, also in a group you know your role a lot better. Just from my experience, people that focus more on one character tend to be better at playing than someone with a maxed out character and several alts. |

While it makes sense in a game without skill limitation to stick with one character, I don't like the choice being made for me.
Unless there is a really compelling reason why a player having more than one character would give an unfair advantage, I think that would be considered a "negative" in my book when considering a game.
So no, I wouldn't play the game unless it turned out be the one game that rules them all. |

I voted yes of course. I believe this was one of the best things about SWG at launch. Many people have mentioned that you develop a reputation within the community and have to be responsible for your actions. It is important to note this does require a skill based game that allows you to re-select your skills over time so you are constantly re-inventing yourself and able to experience other skills (classes) as time goes on. |

Wow, not too many people interested on no alt MMo's. I think it is however really cool how the majority likes the thought of having games that do not allow alts! Awesome!

I would prefer to play a game without alts. The concept of "Alts" is archaic. It must go.

Darkfall does this for sure. Final Fantasy Online does this, but you have the option of paying another dollar or 2 a month for an extra character slot. I think the concept is a great idea if there are no real defined classes, or you can switch between the classes.
To only have one character in a game say like Warhammer Online, or Everquest. I don't know how it would work, but Darkfall and Final Fantasy it works great. I personally like/prefer it so your reputation sticks with you. Ninja loot? You can't reroll/hide on alts, your stuck with your main unless you delete/reroll. It works for some games, and some I don't think it would work well for. I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors. |

hell yeah i would, that why if u act like a jerk you get known for it. if u act like a cool guy and help people know u for that as well. but like FF online maybe paying for extra slot is another option if people wanna try something out with out having to erase there main. but personal just one slot is all u get would work great but thats just me. |

Yes! I hate getting messages from people saying 'oh its me on my alt' or 'I'm logging onto my alt crafter' With 1 char, people will HAVE to trade with each other, we shouldn't all be able to do everything using alts, a real community is based on inter-co-operation between people, and alts KILL that concept. Alts also kill the concept of specialist skills, the kind of skill that is needed now and again but cannot be replicated by another class. In a 1 char world people who choose to take the path less travelled and who commit to the less used skills will have purpose again, and be valued rather than players using alts for the niche skill sets. There is no good reason to use an alt that doesn't harm the game as a whole in one way or another. But I would say that in a 1 char world there needs to be a limited respec option, an expensive hard and very in-frequent respec. |

As long as there was a way for me to respec without paying real money to do so i have no problems with only being allowed to have one character. Plus it makes the real hardcore people buy like 5 accounts so more money for the company lol. Currently Playing: Fallen Earth |

Honestly what good is an alt? An alt is primarily used to travel incognito, with the purpose of ripping people off, taking advantage of them, or otherwise evading responsibility for a set of actions on your main.
About the only thing alts have been good for is testing out other character archetypes. But in upcoming games, as well as games like Darkfall, Entropia, and even Ultima Online (Siege Perilous) alts have been done away with. This is a good move, by these designers. One I'd personally like to see repeated. |

When class based games emerged alts became a way to simply test out the waters of the classes you werent playing. As time went on they seemed to become a filler for lack of content. Done with everything on your main? Well go roll an alt and do it all over again, but this time with new shiny skills yay! However this is also seemingly a hurting factor to mmo's as well. If the game world seemed linear and shallow on your main, running it through a second time on an alt is just going to emphasize this reality even further and will most likely burn you out of the game much faster. Games like SWG did not need multiple character slots (even though a lot of people bought secondary accounts for crafters) due to if you wished to change your class in a way, you could remodel it in any way you chose. Why these games have gone away for the overly simplified class systems is beyond me. I would be far happier in a game where I could shape and mold my character as I chose as time progressed, instead of simply needing to log out in order to try something different. |
