Basically i am suddenly curious as to how we all [lovers and haters of EvE] first found out about and tried this unique game?

For myself i was on the dole and i needed a new game to help fill in the hours i was not looking for work/eating/sleeping. So as i recently quit Neocron [a truely badly made MMO and my first MMO] i decided to look in my local game store for a cheap game such as a RTS. As i was looking around i looked into the bargain bin and for the first time i saw EvE, so out of curiosity [and because it was a fiver] i looked at the box.

Now i will tell you now i grew up on Transformers Star Wars Mask and other such stuff so i always had a fascination with SciFi [which was why i got Neocron which was a post Apoc sciFi shooter skill based MMO] and a special liking of epic spaceship battles such as the final one in Return Of The Jedi [or Revenge Of The Jedi as it was origanally was to be called]. So when i read the back of the box i was definatly interested so i went to Mc Donalds to have a think about it. As its obviouse to all here i returned and brought the game. And that is how i discovered EvE the longest played game i have ever enjoyed.

I started playing Eve in 2003, a few months after it came out. I had been playing planet side and after reach top Battle and command rank i was looking around for my next MMO, lots of peeps left Planetside for SWGs, which did not really appeal to me as i was still much an FPS person.

Some people mentioned EVE to me and when i investigagted it, it looked spliffing so i got it, i too was on the dole at that time and lived and breathe EVE for a few months solid. I have gerown weary of it now after 6 years, but still subb to ir every now and again.

Currently playing WoW.
Played: Eve, VG, AoC, WAR,PS,FE, EQ2.
Looked at: LOTRO, DDO

I heard about Dentara Rast and his huge bank scam and thought, that is awesome.

When I saw my first WOW add in a gaming mag back when I was still playing Warcraft 3, I thought hell ya I'll check that out. Skipped EQ because I was playing a lot of RTS's at the time and I thought the box art was kinda childish and poorly done when I saw it on the shelf (woops!) .

I became bored with WOW before level 30, so I came to this site in search of another MMO more suited to my tastes. After going through the games list I lucky enough to click on EVE.

4 years later I'm still playing.

Their ad is always up at  gamecopyworld   I found out about EVE there first.

I have never seen another game company putting up ads there though, kinda weird that EVE does exactly that.

After reading several good stories about EVE on this site about major events in EVE, including the BOB war I decided to give the game a go about 2.5 years ago after LoTRO didn't pan out for me.

a friend sent me a buddy invite and said checkout the eve never fades video. I had never played an MMORPG (watched all my friends get addicted to evercrack) but when i learnt about the single server philosophy and transhuman science fiction setting, I was doomed.

Don't worry about what people think, they rarely do.

I bought Guild Wars and downloaded EVE on the same day and played them both for couple of weeks. Eventually EVE won out and I removed GW's from my computer. The difference was in EVE I could go anywhere and do anything I wanted, and I was doing it with other people. Oh and GW's never got my heart racing. hehehe

I found a magazine ad for it prior to launch and it looked interesting and when EvE finally launched I got a copy of it from CompUSA. I still have the original disc and instruction manual in fact.

I saw it was listed on a site called BetaWatchers back shortly after the turn of the century. Being a fan of Freelancer, I downloaded and beta tested the game, HOPING it was twitch based with controls similar to Freelancer, or Joystick compatible like the X-wing series was.  I was so upset and bored with what I found, I instantly deleted the game from my harddrive. Fast forward a couple years to 2004 when I was working on Aircraft at AGC. I was working full time and working around pilots, I decided to give it another go.

I was hooked until World of Warcraft went into beta. I then lost all interest in Eve until January of 2005... Since then I've been playing Eve off and on as money permits.

I don't remember exactly how I heard about EvE.   It was in the beta signup stage .. and I was signing up for every MMO beta then (back in the day).  Was always a fan of space games back to Elite on my Commodore 64.

Was accepted into beta and I guess that's about it to how I discovered EvE.

MMO's are okay, just don't let them run your life.

Looked up mmo doing a google search after I started playing FF online. Ha if I kept that toon I would have had a 5.5 year old character.

Back in 2003 I used to subscribe to a computer magazine here in sweden. One of the reporters for that magazine where in the beta and every issue included a status update on the game and what he had been doing with screenshots and stuff.

I started playing a few weeks after release (my oldest char which I havent played since 2003 was created 2003.07.26, 6 years, 4 months and 1 day in the same 1 man player corp :) ) but back then I had a REALLY shitty internet connection (dial up that disconnected all the time due to bad phone lines) so the game wasn't really playable for me.

So it wasn't until 2004 that I started playing an MMORPG for real but it wasn't EVE, it was Starwars Galaxies. I stayed there for 1.5 years until the release of the CU. Got burned out by all the bugs and decided to look for something new. Tested a couple of games but in the end I decided to reactive my EVE account and give it another try. The rest is as they say history :)

Not quite sure where I actually first saw the game but lets just say I used to be an original Endless Corp memeber.

Darkfall & EVE

11/29/09 2:07:05 AM#17

I was playing a Text game that was very similar to EVE.... almost identical if EVE was strictly a text game actually. TDZK

I was in Imperial Dreams in TDZK and some of them started playing late Alpha. I didn't start till after the game actually launched, because when EVE launched I was still running hobo rigs and EVE required a pretty big card at the time. (128mb! recommended!) I think my machine was powerful enough, but my graphics card didn't support the shaders or something. I can't remember now.

Imperial Dreams still exists, I quit them a long time ago. Their playstyle in EVE wasn't the same as TDZK and actually caused me to quit several times because I didn't like their playstyle and I didn't want to leave them.

I think my account was referred to me by Aralis actually. The executor of the CVA alliance. Idk, it's been a long time.

Playing: Guild Wars

11/29/09 4:34:50 AM#19

Funny thing is, it was actually thanks to Guild Wars that I actually tried EVE Online. I can't actually remember where I found out about EVE Online, only I saw the spaceships, was reminded of my obsessive Star Wars days, and when I found out about the monthly fee I decided not to try it after all then. My allowance wasn't big enough for it as of yet.

Then, after my allowance was increased I bought Guild Wars, and yes, I loved it. However, at the same time, there was this necromancer henchman named Eve that I kept seeing, and everytime I saw her, I was like, "Hm... maybe I should try EVE Online." However, what really pushed me to try EVE was when I was looking through Lord of the Rings Online and thinking of trying the trial, when I thought, I might as well try EVE anyway, since that was my original idea.

So on a whim, I downloaded the trial, and let's just say that the rest is history. I actually went through all the trouble of getting my ibanking application ready so that I could subscribed to the game using pay by cash, and I'm definitely very happy with the results. I'm still a noob though; I've only been playing for two months, but I'll definitely be continuing to play it as long as I can afford to.

So now I pretty much switch between Guild Wars and EVE. Guild Wars still remains my favourite of all time, but EVE is now a second favourite, and now I don't see the need to try out any more trials or download anymore free games, since I'm pretty much content with what I have.

Main characters:
Jinn Gone Quiet (Guild Wars)
Purple Was Kisu (Guild Wars)
Aladyleyna (Runescape)

It was mentioned on an EnB forum as another space game coming out at the time so I checked it out.

Like many other people, I discovered EVE from publicity they got from PC Gamer's coverage of the "big" GHSC heist:
