It is a fairly common belief that your account will be used immediately upon being "hacked" or keylogged. From many examples I have heard, it is often more likely that nothing will happen immediately and the malicious hacker will wait for the account to be inactive for a time before trying to use it. While this may increase the possibility that you will locate the keylogger and/or change your password in the meantime, it also increases the possibility that, when they start using your account, you will not notice until it is too late. Which seems to be their goal here. So, ignoring the determination of who is at fault here, one of the first things you will want to do is check, double check, and triple check your computer for a keylogger. Just because your NCSoft/Aion account was affected does not necessarily mean that was the only target. Depending on what you use from your computer they could have obtained account information from other games, or direct access to your banking information. If it was just a phish (which still could have happened a month back when you were playing and they waited to use your account), you are a bit less likely to have had other info stolen, but I would not rely on that hope. Good luck. |

Interesting, usually the most reactive people and the first to throw the blame on the company are those who are at fault but won't admit it, it's been like this forever in every single activity, I learned it from the Lie to me show :D Basicaly, every single botter could say they got hacked and that they didn't bot just to get their money back, you've got no case with NCsoft, I recommend denouncing the theft if it's really true to your CC company, so they can cancel your credit card accordingly to advoid a bigger harm, that should be your first priority, not posting about a game in forums. |

Great logic there. Why dont we apply that to all criminal activities. "Oh you get raped in the park during night in a dangerous neighborhood. Why where you walking in a park, during night in a dangerous neigborhood? Ignorant people like you deserve to get raped. There are 1000 ways to get raped and in the end it is your fault for getting raped, not the rapist or society for not providing enough security" Hacking is an illegal activity and it is never a victims fault he got hacked.
If I go to a bar filled with black people, wearing a torch and a white dress/cone hat, would my broken ribs be my fault?

File a petition for hacked account. This kind of petitions usually take priority. But you must write it formally and with as much information as you can; nothing as your flame post here. If you don't get an answer in a few days, call them. Also make sure to identify and cleanse the trojan/keylogger in your computer, or you won't solve anything. Identify the source, where you got the trojan from, and patch that whole. This part of the end is your own responsibility. |

Even greater logic from you. Why dont we apply it to a petty theft though, instead of rape? You have a house and you decide not to lock your door, or leaving the key under the mat seems like a valid protection. Our dear thief comes and gets everything you have, now who's fault is this? police dept.? government?

OP has a hole in his computer security. Might be 3rd party program, might be a weak password or something different. He better fix it and fast because next time it might be not an unimportant gameaccount which gets stolen. |

Please note that Windows' entire UI is basically held in "Explorer.exe" It did things slowly. I first realised when I went to a LAN, infected two other computers, and the third other computer defended itself against the virus. I didn't wear virus protection. Please, learn from my story. I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much. You all need to learn to spell. |

Originally posted by Xasapis Like I said, you have some basic responsibility to keep your credentials safe. But you cannot have that attitude that if your account is hacked then it is entirely your fault, regardless of what you did or did not do. You are the victim, not the criminal. You pay for a service and then you expect to have some insurances that if your account is compromised then the corp that you have that account in investigates the matter. |

Originally posted by Falfeir It is the thiefs fault. It is theft and the police needs to investigate it and find the thief regardless of how careless you are. It is not a crime to leave your keys under the mat but it is a crime to use that key and steal your belongings. Besides, you have no idea how careless the OP was. I work in IT security for a company (developer, but still) and I can tell you that cyber theft is much more common than people would normally believe. It is so common that the general attitude is that you really cannot be 100% safe, and still be able to use IT resources, so what you can do is to protect yourself as much as possible and hope that is enough. However if a cyber criminal really wants to break in, they will usually find a way to do so. Updated antivirus and firewalls does not make you 100% secure if you thought so. |

Companies have some level of corruptness in them, their goal is to make a profit. Take the Afghanistan/American government as an example, both cater for their people . However they both indulge in Afghanistan's "Drug trade" when i say that i mean heroin. It's the biggest market out there next to oil. Like Aion indulges in setting up "Gold sellers" etc . They'll do anything by the book to ensure that they make a profit and don't lose out. In your case, you can't really do anything...who can you go to, the police? No one but NCsoft cares, and they wont help you out because they found a loop hole to get rid of you and to keep your money. |

I cal shenanigans! You claim that the 'hacker' got your credit card information from your account, which sounds pretty bogus as pretty much every MMO that I have played only displays the last four numbers under your billing information. The only way they are getting all your card details (including the 3 digit security number) is because you gave it too them for whatever gold or bot that you purchased. Why not just grow a pair and admit that you got caught doing something wrong, banned for it, and decided to try and badmouth NCSoft in a petty, and very, very impotent, attempt at revenge. |

-Well i have to disagree with you here, my wow account was hacked and i never had any reason to visit any gold selling site or boting, but it happens anyway, tho blizzard confirmed that account was hacked and sorted it out.

I don't get it.
Those who suggest all kinds of conspiracy theories - do you actually think that botters should NOT be banned?

You're wrong. Personally, I think that people shouldn't call others ignorant... Especially if they themselves have no idea what they are talking about.

Found them bot legions yet? Edit: Oh and for the guy I quoted, look up brute force attack. It's one way of getting into someone's account without having the person download or install anything.

The fact of the matter is your account did in fact get hacked. The only way that could ever happen is if you A. Gave them your account info (I highly doubt you did) or B. You got keylogged
Hate to break it to you but that's how this situation always works out. You may not even know what you did in this case. It happens. Just saying.
There is another way to get hacked. If he use the same account name as his forum name or if he publicly said he is using the same name. From there they know his account name and can "force" their way into his account using a program who try million of possible passwords. Edit: Mmm yea that would be A |
