I know there are a 1000 posts like this, but i have to rant otherwise i may go crazy. This is the FOURTH cryptic game my brother has been invited to the beta and i have not, Now i know some of you are thinking "is this really a serious post?" But think about it like this 1. my brother isnt active on the STO forums or any other cryptic game forum 2. my brother isnt a Trekkie at all 3. he has no ties to cryptic in any way
Yet every time he applies for a beta for a cryptic game he gets in on the first wave! yet i will never get in untill open beta. Where is this supposed "random selection" and "dedicated fans" invite i hear about? Just once i would like a invite, after playing 5 games being active in the community for years and posting numorous times on various cryptic game sites. |

Most Closed Beta invites are based on DXDIAG information. People are categorized into different computer spec pools and then people are randomly selected out of each pool to get the most diverse hardware specs into Beta. So either your brother is a very very lucky guy. OR..... ...your brother has a computer setup not many other people have and so ends up having a very high chance being selected. And you having a computer setup that is far more common. You could try to submit a beta application next time from his computer as well and see what happens ;) Ofcourse this is hypothetical, but very likely how it happens. Cheers |

So wait... first its FOUR and then its FIVE? Last time I checked, Cryptic has only made three games. City of Heroes, Chapions Online and STO. If you count City of Villians as a game by itself (which I wouldn't) then you get four... but thats still one game short of five. Perhaps you are being denied entry into these beta tests because of your natural propensity for exaggeration?
Seriously though, Cryptic has serious issues with its beta selection process. As you pointed out, there are over 9000 other complaints about this and you are clearly not the only person who feels they are getting the shaft despite being a loyal fan of Cryptic and their past games. Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and inexcusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may. ~Mark Twain |

It's been close to two months since I applied, so maybe my memory is faulty, but they didn't even ask for a DXDIAG or do a system scan, or even ask about gaming/beta history. Seems like they already had a big enough pool to pick from with all the people that PAID for beta and their sign ups were mostly for show. TOR did a system scan and seems to be taking its' testing process a bit more seriously. |

People who signed up have gotten into the beta. But yes, a lot fewer than normal, because of those that paid to get into the beta. I really wouldn't be that upset. Cryptic closed betas only run for a couple of hours two nights a week. The rest of the time, the server is offline. And even when you do log in, you test what they want you to test, not play around on your own. |

People who paid must feel silly - paying to do someone else's work. I wouldn't think those sorts of testers would be very productive or reliable. I'm sure there's lots of multi-pathing going on internally with the beta viewed as a bonus form of wide scope directed ad hoc testing. |
