I read some where that mentoring was in already, but i cant seem to find the update notes mentioning it. Anyone  know when/if it has been added yet?

It has been added already :)

You can only mentor down and only if there is atleast a 5 level difference.

Mentoring

You can now right click on a group member to request that they mentor you. If they accept your request, their level will match yours and you will be able to adventure with them as if they were a normal player your level.

Players who are mentoring can only use abilities they were able to use at the level they’re mentored down to. If you cast an ability in a line that is higher level, it will automatically cast the highest level of that ability line you qualify for.

While mentoring another player, your stats will scale down. The reduction in stats scales with the difference between you and the person you’re mentoring.

Both players will gain experience as normal while mentoring.

You must be out of combat to begin or end a mentoring session.

If you leave the group of the person you’re mentoring, you’ll have 2 minutes to re-join them or the mentoring session will end.

Up to 5 players can mentor one person at once.

I used mentoring for the first time this past weekend with some friends that needed a healer.  I mentored down my lvl 52 blood-mage and had a blast.  It works well AND surprisingly you can still gain exp.  Obviously, it wasn't  alot for a level 52 but it was a lot of fun to group with friends, not have to worry about the level difference and do a crawl in a dungeon I've never been in before.

I bet it was fun. this feature alone has convinced me to try vanguard again. I always ran into road blocks with leveling due to lack of people to group with. Now that seems like it should no longer be an issue since to me there seemed to be no lack of max lvl people running around. I just hope they are willing to do some mentoring. :)

That is going to be the trick.  With my limited play time I am obessed with PotA progression, as are a lot of other high level players.

Exp pot works too when you are mentored down, so mentoring a group of 50-47 doing RI/ToT with exp pot can net better result than grouping for post 50 content.

well the established community of players who have stuck with the game and plan to stay with the game MUST be willing to reach down to to any new/lower level players with help like with mentoring or alts. otherwise vanguard can not count on any significant growth from new customers. IMO the influx/churn  of "new players" is not of  a self sustaining size any more.  That was the whole purpose of adding mentoring, i thought.

/shrug heh but what do I know  :)

Agreed.  The reality though is that Vanguard is top heavy and the level 50-55 crowd has got  alot to do.  Mentoring helps and guilds created specifically for the purpose of being a good home for new players help a lot as well.  When I log in, there might be 30-40 guildies on line and I can jump into any number of things... but it's all 50+ content.  In a guild that is designed to welcome new folks into the game you'll find folks doing content from 1 to 50.
