Its is simply NOT the worst mmo in terms of animation and avatars out there.

The thing I dislike most is how the animations haven't been finished completely. They all kinda end before the body moves back to the default position, which makes it seem so lazy on designer's part (because the animations seem to be half-assed from the beginning, the moving is not natural and the limbs move way too little).

Popularity means nothing when you don't like what you see, even if it had 80 million subsciptions I wouldn't play it if I hated the looks of my avatar. |

I recently resubscribed to LotRO and things stick out more when you havent seen them in a while. The arms are not connected well to the body. And no one in the game has a pelvis. The disjointed limbs combined with the goofy animation leads to poor looking characters no matter how many polygons or how much texture mapping they have. The running animation of Humans and Elves should be enough to convince anyone something isnt right. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAgC6RFX9Jw I said 2 times or so that the world looks great BUT the characters no don't see your point on those videos.. Even if the game looked as graphically as the real world but the characters looked like crap I wouldn't play it. |

I currently play LOTRO so I obviously think it looks good while I think they could use more variety in clothing I don't think they are the only ones with this problem as most games are very limited in the look of gear very early on and not much less than that later although the later stuff usually looks tons better. |

I agree that the animations are the biggest problem with characters. Alot of games have problem with animations especially if there is non-human characters in the game. (not including monsters.) Better to do a game without dwarves and halflings so you can animate all characters with real people doing the movements :) If WoW = The Beatles |

I've seen atleast one of you against LOTRO admit you may have too high standards which I think is the case with the biggest detractors here. Basically what is being told to you is the truth you and maybe even hundreds or thousands more feel this way and we can respect that but for those who enjoy the game who likely outnumber those who dislike it for the reasons you state. If you won't play it there are many who won't lose sleep over it like is the case with AOC (a game recognized by many as having better graphics than LOTRO). And that's because LOTRO is a solid game in many other ways again I can't agree because while I can also pick apart why I don't think LOTRO is the best looking game I've ever played I'm quite satisfied with what I do see enough so to continue to play it. Honestly I would actually rather see Turbine use resources on beefing up pvp (which I don't even play) as that would help them bring in more than anything they could do graphically. In the end though I'm 100% behind Turbine because they have in my opinion the best track record I've experienced with an mmo as far as development speed and game improvements are concerned and it would not surprise me at all to see them eventually tackle the graphical issues that even though I don't see them can't pretend aren't a problem for many out there who would like to be able to get into the game. |

proportions are strangely off in LOTRO. Especially the horses... they are just too small and thin. |

I think they're a part of the total experience as well, which lowers the whole game's quality. Of course the particular feature means different things to different people, but at least to me the quality of character model is quite important.

Just wanted to point out that I noticed an animation slider under advance graphics, for those of you who say they look "disjointed", which I don't see. I'm guessing the bar makes the animation more fluid. They still run around with sticks up their arses, but disjointed? I don't see it. Maybe you guys should alter the slider a bit. |

I didn't find the models that compelling, nor did I find them so horrible that I ran from the game screaming. The fact that when I started I ran in to a total of 3 people and not a single one would reply to my "hello"s over the course of three days left me pretty cold though.

I dunno how anyone can think that looks good I mean the proportions are all out and that body doesn't look very Human to me. I dunno how many of you have torsos like that and Arms which look like they ain't connected to their body and then you have the weird shape of their legs and how small they are compared. I mean the faces are that great in lotro too, specially the Hobbits but it's mainly the bodies and then how they animate looks horrible and makes it even worse. The females do look better and it's weird because like in Vanguard some armour can change the shape of the body and make it look alright. However on the whole they're just terrible and don't fit into the environment, I mean they look so out of place like someone photoshopped it in. I have to say sure you can make any game look really good or really bad in a screenshot but go and play it and see for yourself.
Another thing I'll add is I hate how the clothes and stuff look like a texture put directly onto the character model and it looks so flat. I mean in other games it's something the character looks like they're wearing rather than it being painted on the skin. However I could just be noticing that cause the models are just so bad.
I'm not trying to anger the fanbois here but just trying to point it out that they could do a better job on the character models and more people might play the game. I know they put me off and lots of my friends who played with me in WoW all tried Lotro and hated the same things such as the character models and animations. I don't think anyone can disagree that they could be better and they wouldn't mind Turbine making them look nicer and putting more effort into them. The fans will always say they're fine as they're are but yeh just "fine" and they could be better. I mean theres no reason not to want them IMPROVED as an improvement is exactly that.
Look at their odd body shape and Im aware armour changes the look of it but this is what many new players will be seeing as they start out.

i actually find that model to be a fairly accurate depiction of a modern, athletic human male with good posture (who is taking a deep breath.) the reason the legs look short is because the pic is cut off at the ankles. obviously it doesn't represent the average dude, but an average dude with a tubby body would have to stop and catch his breath after about 45 seconds of swinging a sword around. have a blessed thread. |

I dunno, I don't find the Lotro models to be awful, just kinda average. That could be because I started EQ around the Kunark expansion so I've seen awful. :) |
