Not being able to jump.

Weather is a big thing for me. I enjoy it when I am out tooling around in whatever game and it snows, or there is a rain storm. I REALLY like Vanguards weather system. Being able to actually see a storm blowing in was boss. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1031474168.png |

Originally posted by Slampig I'm with Slampig. Pretty much anything that will add to the immersion is good. Ryzom's herds of mobs that stampede from one place to another is one of those things. Not being able to jump is another annoyance for me. I need to be able to dye my armor at the very least. If I have to suffer looking like every other Joe Public I think I'm going to harm somebody. No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga- |

Boring leveling content, seems nowadays everyone is so keen on focusing on endgame that getting to end game is just so god damn boring. If a game is to linear and or lacks content = no interest. |

-Not being able to jump -overdone Special effects -when I have a quest to get rabbit heads and the rabit has no heads, I mean WTF -not being able to go up small hills or jump down from a small cliff -and the biggest one FULL QUEST LOG, I mean if I have a 120 page notebook and put in a few kill xx for yy, or collect xx for yy that only takes up 2 freaking lines maybe 4 if you leave a line b/w so u can read it better, but still you have about 10 lines on that page, not to mention the other 119 pages you could use. |

Huge thing for me, default controls. If you jump into a game and have to start changing it all over and exploring the whole interface options then it kills the game for me honestly. Another one, not being able to jump up on things. I like to explore and inevitably get stuck behind boxes while I wait on slow pokes. Hype on one aspect of the game when truely it is not that fantastic of an implementation...that annoys me. False hope gogo! If a game's collector edition items you have to spend a long time finally to be able to use and then they are quickly upgraded from. To me the items should be more entertaining and fun things rather than a stupid ring that will give you like +2 to something you don't care for. Finally the big killer to me, lame looking UI. Sure familiar UI and HUD is a good thing to have across games to make people feel more at home like my original point. But some games just make it look so annoying and just lame I can't stand it. |

I bet I can jump over it.... oh wait... I CANT! For some reason people in this world managed to figure out magic and all the other powers of the universe, yet we couldnt figure out how to jump!" Seriously, its lazy game design... |

-Bots -pathing restrictions -unintelligent mobs in a pve environment; aka that remain in one spot, and mobs that are nothing but punching bags...they should be playing against the players.

The OP said "miniscule" (which is spelled Minuscule btw) What you posted is major. Bot's should never be a part of an MMO. Unintelligent mobs? C'mon..... Pathing? Miniscule? "This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....." |

-2d planar movement(SWG) -tight, clausterphobic tunnels(CoX) -overdone effects, audio or visual(CoX, especially grouped... can't tell what's going on with all the racket and flashy lights) -inadequate inventory space(AoC) It was REALLY bad before itemization. -inadequate quest log space (AoC, WoW, and LotRO) I can't see any reason to have quest log management be a factor in the game. Maybe it's just a hardware/software limitation. LotRO is the most frustrating, being such a quest heavy game. Could hold 42 quests, and it was almost always full. -gear and faction tokens taking inventory slots(LotRO): I'd much rather not have them cluttering up my inventory than to be able to sell them. -non switchable bloom effects: Why take beautiful scenery and wash it out with overbright light? Let me switch it off. -drag and drop selling: or rather, not having the ability to just right-click to sell an item. I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that come to mind. |

Not having the "standard" skill bar that has been the norm for many years now, but I'm starting to see MMO's trying to go more "twitch" based. The Chronicles of Spellborn is an example of a skill bar I couldnt handle...it rotated and crap and you also had to aim your reticule otherwise you didnt hit. I'm getting older and twitch-styled or shooter-styled gameplay is kinda hard for me. I'm just not good at it, therefore not very fun for me. |

Unrealistic combat. If you get stabbed by a sword, you should die. If you get shot by an arrow, you should die. If you get burnt to a crisp, you should die. How to counteract these dreadful, deadly things? It's called a shield. Or some magic bubble. Or using your weapon to parry attacks. Or leather armor that absorbs magical energy. Something other than, "I just got hit by 50 attacks, but since I'm level 5102841902750129687109284 and they're level "FAIL", my health is not even half gone." Obviously, I understand there's room for compromise. Multiple sword strikes to kill someone is acceptable... or multiple arrows... or a bleed effect. Armor is there for a reason, right? Sure, that's cool. But I'd really like to see more active (passive) defense. That sounds weird, but it basically means that instead of getting hit by what looks like an incredibly deadly weapon for... 4 damage, because you're level X, you raise your shield (or absorb or parry or whatever) and actually "block" (strange concept!) the attack for 0 damage. In effect, it's really the same thing. You either take a small amount of damage or just block it completely. Except one is more realistic than the other. In this type of game, everyone would have less hitpoints and there'd be a less strict death penalty. Still, a bit more realism would be cool, especially in something that you're doing 85-90% of the time. That's just a little pet peeve, and I know most developers don't care because it means having to polish and time their animations correctly... which isn't easy. Besides that, I'd agree with most of the other things people listed: Bad collision detection, slopes being too steep to run up (like a wimpy little hill), and I'll throw in bad animations as a whole. I really do wish someone used some type of technology that was cheap but effective at making good animations so we could finally be on par with single-player games. Imagine customized animations for almost everything you did in the game world...

I've had that happen to me before too. I was standing somewhere no one should have been able to hit me (behind a column, if I remember right) and they were shooting THROUGH the column to hit me. I couldn't hit them. I could just watch their shots coming through solid concrete or whatever it was supposedly made of and plow into me. That's not fun at all. Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA |

-Combat that consists of using the same attack again and again, so boring! I like to have lots of skills to switch it up and vary depending on who I'm attacking -Spending forever looking for some person to complete a quest, it can be ok if you get to go somewhere interesting but I hate it when you spend all your time looking for someone and not enough time playing. -This is a small one as I know a lot of people don't mind, but point and click is really annoying to me if there's no keyboard system for moving and attacking - Dana |

-Poor chat window -Quests like this...."We were suppose to get a shipment of beer yesterday, but the caravan never arrived. Go find it, but becareful it might be dangerous." Then you go about 20 feet down the path and there it is, in plain sight, not even 30 seconds away. -Abilities with long cooldowns. These are generally powerful, and i get their suppose to be balanced by having a long cooldown. But I never used them. I would always think to myself "If i use it now, i wont be able to use it for 30 more minutes, and i might need it". So i end up never using it. -Potions, same as before, I don't like running out so i just save them and never use them. -Once you reach a high level and have to go to someone to learn your new abilities, but the trainer is a lower level than you. >< -Villages in the middle of no where, that have no actual houses. Maybe buildings but no one where people would sleep. -No children models in town. There have to be young people somewhere -Multiple levels inbetween getting new abilities. Or levels that get nothing new, just a boring level to ding too. -Quests that make you run long distances at a low level when you have no mount, just to have to run all the way back in the end.
