To be or not to be.

The chance of having your items drop when you try to PK a person then you were the one who got PK'ed.

My reason, Personally I don't like PK but it things like that happen especially when you get bullied when you are on your lower levels. When you get stronger, you want to get back to that person who bullied you who is much stronger to you up until know. So it gives a frightening experience to PK when there is a chance for your equipement to be dropped.

Most definitely the sound. If I'm playing a badass tank, I want him to sound like a badass tank when he charges into the fight, not a 12 year old boy who picked up a stick in the backyard. I'm sorry, but no matter what anyone says, try taking your game and playing it for 2 hours with the sound on MUTE. If the sound sucks, the game sucks.

Take Aion for instance, how many people played it and after the first 2 hours you already had to look for the UI check box to turn your players sound off? Especially the girl sounds, OMFG I actually got to level 10 a couple times and had to re-roll just to get rid of the voices. And the same voice cap for 5 different skills? Or the same pew-pew noise on every spell?

Same goes for the ambient sounds, the high pitch tinkerbell in the background of the elf starter zone by Darnasus in WoW, just makes that zone unbearable for more than 1 hour. (I know, I know - what tinkerbell?  Yeah you have to have good speakers to even notice it, but if you do...). Or the sounds the attacks make, come on - does a mace really sound the same as a dagger hitting the plate mail? Or a sword swing the same as the shield bash...please.

Yeah, HUGE negative if the sound sucks. Some of these games are multi-million dollar productions and I bet they payed less than $5k on the sound effects. Sure, the music is important too - but everyone always subs the music out eventually (not enough to the soundtrack to last more than 15 times through it). The sound effects though, you can't sub out with your iPod, they have to be good.

(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)

Just make them move from spot a outside to spot b inside, problem solved. Very few games have what appears in the slightest bit to a liiving eco system. Old school SWG kind of did and ryzom again is about the only game that does.

Personally I agree with your thoughts on lifeless worlds - I tend to have a similar problem with single player RPGs ever since playing Ultima VII back in... 1992?

In WOW;

Why can't wyverns have straight flight paths ?  That really bugged me.

Probably had straight ones, and made them curvy because players didn't like it.

This way the flight is a little more varied/enjoyable?

Something I like about flying somewhere is the game is doing something - you are progressing your x,y,z to a different x,y,z, and you can get a coffee, or go to the toilet.

All those little things! =P

For me, it's the ability to get stuck, and no ability to get out of being stuck. I.e. WAR's no-movement-after-jumping thing they had way back when. When you jump in WoW, press w/a/q/e (not a/d, they turn) mid-air and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I hate having the "unstuck" button on a 1hr cooldown.

Additionally, I agree with the on-next-attack moves. I hate them. I used to play a hunter - multishot. Ugh.

I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.

You all need to learn to spell.

No its not fun having to waste 10 minutes flying all over the place to get from point A to point B.  It was nice the first time when you haven't seen the environment but the next 20 was a  waste.

Some resons for the flight paths might be

- to show off the world

- to make the world seem bigger

- to reduce travel speed (increased "downtime" to lengthen overall play time)

- the flying mounts are equipped with faulty GPS systems

- to add a sense of wonder for new players when they're trekking past the road in Goldshire and suddenly a gryphon flies over them.

Playing: Guild Wars

11/11/09 9:32:38 AM#48

As much as I love Guild Wars Fractions (it's my favourite campaign by the way), what I really hate is the mispronounciations of names. I understand that Asian and Western pronounciations are different; people always ask me for an English name because they can't pronounce my given name. But honestly, if you want to have an Asian setting, at least get voice actors who can pronounce names correctly. I keep cringing at almost every cutscene because of the horrible pronounciations.

A few things I cant stand are...

*point and click

*games where you cannot jump

*games that have predefined genders for classes (i.e. Perfect World)

*no collision

*swimming ( and for that I mean, Heavily armored Knights being able to swim fine in an ocean or lake, just as easy as some leather bound archerer.....there should be a hindrance on swimming depending on the type of armor you wear)

Weather is a big thing for me. I enjoy it when I am out tooling around in whatever game and it snows, or there is a rain storm. I REALLY like Vanguards weather system. Being able to actually see a storm blowing in was boss.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

I'm with Slampig.  Pretty much anything that will add to the immersion is good.  Ryzom's herds of mobs that stampede from one place to another is one of those things.

Not being able to jump is another annoyance for me.

I need to be able to dye my armor at the very least.  If I have to suffer looking like every other Joe Public I think I'm going to harm somebody.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Boring leveling content, seems nowadays everyone is so keen on focusing on endgame that getting to end game is just so god damn boring. If a game is to linear and or lacks content = no interest.

-Not being able to jump

-overdone Special effects

-when I have a quest to get rabbit heads and the rabit has no heads, I mean WTF

-not being able to go up small hills or jump down from a small cliff

-and the biggest one FULL QUEST LOG, I mean if I have a 120 page notebook and put in a few kill xx for yy, or collect xx for yy that only takes up 2 freaking lines maybe 4 if you leave a line b/w so u can read it better, but still you have about 10 lines on that page, not to mention the other 119 pages you could use.

Huge thing for me, default controls. If you jump into a game and have to start changing it all over and exploring the whole interface options then it kills the game for me honestly.

Another one, not being able to jump up on things. I like to explore and inevitably get stuck behind boxes while I wait on slow pokes.

Hype on one aspect of the game when truely it is not that fantastic of an implementation...that annoys me. False hope gogo!

If a game's collector edition items you have to spend a long time finally to be able to use and then they are quickly upgraded from. To me the items should be more entertaining and fun things rather than a stupid ring that will give you like +2 to something you don't care for.

Finally the big killer to me, lame looking UI. Sure familiar UI and HUD is a good thing to have across games to make people feel more at home like my original point. But some games just make it look so annoying and just lame I can't stand it.

OMG THIS!

I can live with backward control schemes, non-remapable buttons, etc. But if I cant jump I get REALLY annoyed. Its like "Hey look, a lil creek churning its way down the hillside. I bet I can jump over it.... oh wait... I CANT! For some reason people in this world managed to figure out magic and all the other powers of the universe, yet we couldnt figure out how to jump!"

Seriously, its lazy game design...

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

-Bots

-pathing restrictions

-unintelligent mobs in a pve environment; aka that remain in one spot, and mobs that are nothing but punching bags...they should be playing against the players.

The OP said "miniscule" (which is spelled Minuscule btw)

What you posted is major.

Bot's should never be a part of an MMO.

Unintelligent mobs? C'mon.....

Pathing? Miniscule?

Let go of my ears, I know what I'm doing!

11/11/09 1:25:49 PM#60

-2d planar movement(SWG)

-tight, clausterphobic tunnels(CoX)

-overdone effects, audio or visual(CoX, especially grouped... can't tell what's going on with all the racket and flashy lights)

-inadequate inventory space(AoC)  It was REALLY bad before itemization.

-inadequate quest log space (AoC, WoW, and LotRO)  I can't see any reason to have quest log management be a factor in the game.  Maybe it's just a hardware/software limitation.  LotRO is the most frustrating, being such a quest heavy game.  Could hold 42 quests, and it was almost always full.

-gear and faction tokens taking inventory slots(LotRO):  I'd much rather not have them cluttering up my inventory than to be able to sell them.

-non switchable bloom effects:  Why take beautiful scenery and wash it out with overbright light?  Let me switch it off.

-drag and drop selling:  or rather, not having the ability to just right-click to sell an item.

I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that come to mind.
