Originally posted by Sauronas Erm, do you play Darkfall? Compared to Darkfall, UO was easy as a new player. In UO you could see the red names when they appeared, and you had two ways to escape...hide or recall. If you are far from a tower in Darkfall you only have one choice, to die. And you can play DF without any experience from a full-loot mmo, it's just a bit different at start.
Still it's sad to hear OP got griefed into quitting the game. And don't tell new players to join a clan at the start, when nobody knows how many other clans they are at war with. No wonder he got killed 60 times if his clan was at war with the rest of the server. Only join the NEW clan the first weeks, because it's not normal behavior to kill new players the way you describe. The NEW clan excist on both severs. For EU1 players send a tell to Torinar Blackhammer For NA1 players newbornonagon.guildplex.com/
I would like the new players to get past the horrible first weeks and really see why we like DF so much.

I understand the OP stand point and I agree that DF could be a bit more casual friendly. The biggest turn off are grind of skills, resources, money and overall pve experience especially HP of some monsters. Both of those things improved after months of players forum campaign, but I am sure those changes need more polish. Said that I think that OP bad mindset for DF or had a bad luck with game experience ( ganking, griefing never was a problem for me and I was a looner for a long time ) and choice of clan. |

The gankers are what will ultimatley destroy Darkfall, there is no sense of honor in that game, looking for a fair fight is alien to most people. They just camp the starting areas and kill new players over and over again for hours, but I suppose this is human nature, most people are cowards ( one of my good friends is a 6'5 270pd black dude that lifts wieghts, whenever im with him at the movies or the mall we are free to yell and scream and noone says a word, whereas if i was alone I would be told to shut up). Its a shame that the game will be brought to its knees by the very people paying the monthly sub, thier fault for not giving newbs a chance to breath I suppose. |

That's why I'm excited about this NEW guild on NA1. I'm really hoping this keeps getting the support from most players and guilds. Newbs like myself need some time to learn the ropes. There's no challenge or fun in ganking newbs all the time. At least it wouldn't be fun for me. If you continually grief your new players and they rage quit, then DFO is doomed to die. Current: None |

I think the OP hit the nail on its head. This will be the main reason why this game wont grow further or arent yet, as there will be always such noobs who try to farm weaker instead of messing with someone on their scale. Why cant devs make it like it is ine EVE, where you got safe zone and decide self when you are ready to mess with the wolfs, instead of being thrown in a lion cage from begin on ...

your number one complaint is getting killed a lot in a PvP centric game ... enough said. There are reason to hate darkfall, getting killed all the time isn't one of them.

The only thing I'd like to see AV add is maybe a 5hr invulnerability shield since that will allow people to get used to the interface and the game before dying, without making the system exploitable. Newbie zones are a waste of development time unless they are intergrated into the game's story Edit: I love how every time a "I quit the first month" post is made, regardless of the game, its always a new MMORPG account.

I'm not trying to flame anyone. I played Darkfall for about 7 weeks solo before I joined a clan, and that was because people I knew invited me to do so. If you want to play as a healer/crafter, then there are dozens of people to play with every day, clan or no. Just because you have a mission that puts you in harm's way does not mean you have to do that mission right now: how you choose to play is up to you. That said, the camping of new players is a problem, and we do not have enough skilled players hunting the people who hunt the new players. |

This is why open pvp games always fail. Most people in the game are cowards who just gank noobs all day long. So the population keeps dropping because they are running all of the new players out of the game. Eventually the population will get so low that they shut the game down. Then all the gankers will move on to the next game and do the same thing.

Just that you think it doesn't matter how old your char is before a player quit, makes me shake my head. It means all in Darkfall. Get the players past the boring first weeks, and you have a player for years.
My bank is so filled with stuff I sometimes wish I get killed. No new player feels that way. |

Thanks for the review OP. It is pretty much what I expected. I was hoping for a D&D version of EvE...but this game looks like it will be very tedious for a new player, and very hostile to soloing. Think I'll pass. Too bad. Was looking forward to this game. |

So, the OP comes in and gives his story of his first month in-game, and he gets criticized. Most of the time when people say they are buying the game, people ask them to come back in a 2-week to a months time to give a first-hand account of their experiences. Apparently, the player base only wants the good part of the game known. Another thing to add to the list of reasons to avoid this game....the community. |

Its not the story, its the reason he quit. He quit because he felt that he died too much and feels like hes exaggerating, although if he only played during the transfer period he could be right that newbie ganking increased. Honestly though, if a person is going to quit the game because they died a lot, nothing is going to keep them in the game because that's the nature of FFA PvP. You will die, you will get ganked, you will be out matched a lot. If these things are going to cause you to quit you probably shouldn't play FFA PvP games.
