P.S.

One night UO and EQ met at an MMORPG mixer and drank a little too much and had the sexy time.  What came out was DF.  If you never played Ultima Online and/or Everquest this isn't the game for you.

Erm, do you play Darkfall?

Compared to Darkfall, UO was easy as a new player. In UO you could see the red names when they appeared, and you had two ways to escape...hide or recall. If you are far from a tower in Darkfall you only have one choice, to die. And you can play DF without any experience from a full-loot mmo, it's just a bit different at start.

Still it's sad to hear OP got griefed into quitting the game. And don't tell new players to join a clan at the start, when nobody knows how many other clans they are at war with. No wonder he got killed 60 times if his clan was at war with the rest of the server. Only join the NEW clan the first weeks, because it's not normal behavior to kill new players the way you describe. The NEW clan excist on both severs.

For EU1 players send a tell to Torinar Blackhammer

For NA1 players newbornonagon.guildplex.com/

I would like the new players to get past the horrible first weeks and really see why we like DF so much.

Can someone remake the OP post short pls? I dont like to read bloggers wall of text because it just waste my time.

Played DF trial for 2 weeks none stop. Check out my pvp video during trial.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJnU_JEqKRM
So you can stop posting that i played DF only for 2 weeks over and over again.

I understand the OP stand point and I agree that DF could be a bit more casual friendly. The biggest turn off  are grind of skills, resources, money and overall pve experience especially HP of some monsters. Both of those things improved after months of players forum campaign, but I am sure those changes need more polish.

Said that  I think that OP bad mindset for DF or had a bad luck with game experience (  ganking, griefing never was a problem for me and I was a looner for a long time ) and choice of clan.

The gankers are what will ultimatley destroy Darkfall, there is no sense of honor in that game, looking for a fair fight is alien to most people. They just camp the starting areas and kill new players over and over again for hours, but I suppose this is human nature, most people are cowards ( one of my good friends is a 6'5 270pd black dude that lifts wieghts, whenever im with him at the movies or the mall we are free to yell and scream and noone says a word, whereas if i was alone I would be told to shut up).

Its a shame that the game will be brought to its knees by the very people paying the monthly sub, thier fault for not giving newbs a chance to breath I suppose.

That's why I'm excited about this NEW guild on NA1. I'm really hoping this keeps getting the support from most players and guilds. Newbs like myself need some time to learn the ropes. There's no challenge or fun in ganking newbs all the time. At least it wouldn't be fun for me. If you continually grief your new players and they rage quit, then DFO is doomed to die.

This is the type of player that you an expect in Darkfall. Exactly the reason I left after putting in 400 hrs to my character. I have never looked back since.

I think the OP hit the nail on its head. This will be the main reason why this game wont grow further or arent yet, as there will be always such noobs who try to farm weaker instead of messing with someone on their scale.

Why cant devs make it like it is ine EVE, where you got safe zone and decide self when you are ready to mess with the wolfs, instead of being thrown in a lion cage from begin on ...

your number one complaint is getting killed a lot in a PvP centric game ... enough said.

There are reason to hate darkfall, getting killed all the time isn't one of them.

If you are going to quit because of dying, then preventing you from dying during "newbie" phase will just prolong you from quitting.  People who quit the first month will just quit the second month. The only thing I'd like to see AV add is maybe a 5hr invulnerability shield since that will allow people to get used to the interface and the game before dying, without making the system exploitable. Newbie zones are a waste of development time unless they are intergrated into the game's story

Edit: I love how every time a "I quit the first month" post is made, regardless of the game, its always a new MMORPG account.

I'm not trying to flame anyone.  I played Darkfall for about 7 weeks solo before I joined a clan, and that was because people I knew invited me to do so.  If you want to play as a healer/crafter, then there are dozens of people to play with every day, clan or no.  Just because you have a mission that puts you in harm's way does not mean you have to do that mission right now: how you choose to play is up to you.  That said, the camping of new players is a problem, and we do not have enough skilled players hunting the people who hunt the new players.

This is why open pvp games always fail. Most people in the game are cowards who just gank noobs all day long. So the population keeps dropping because they are running all of the new players out of the game. Eventually the population will get so low that they shut the game down. Then all the gankers will move on to the next game and do the same thing.

C'mon are you for real?

New players have nothing. Not a pickaxe, not a 2-hand weapon and no money. After a month they would have a bank filled with weapon, armor and some money. Just that you think it doesn't matter how old your char is before a player quit, makes me shake my head. It means all in Darkfall. Get the players past the boring first weeks, and you have a player for years.

My bank is so filled with stuff I sometimes wish I get killed. No new player feels that way.

Thanks for the review OP. It is pretty much what I expected. I was hoping for a D&D version of EvE...but this game looks like it will be very tedious for a new player, and very hostile to soloing.

Think I'll pass. Too bad. Was looking forward to this game.

He followed the "rules"imposed by the game: Join a clan

What he couldn't deal with was being used as a farming tool for more powerful and experienced players.

You guys keep posting about how nobody gives this game a chance and you flame people that post honest mini reviews like he did but its all Darkfall fault.

He is a starting player and as such he doesn't have any weapons good enough to fight a full plated opponent with powerful skills or magic. He was trying the game and trying to "level up" but wasnt allowed to by the same players that post: ganking newbs is for noob!

This is 1 thing Darkfall needs to have fixed, the ability to provide new players a chance to understand the game FAST before they decide to quit and call it crap because another guy ruined the fun. Its nothing about being skillful in running or using a bank.

What? I think I understood exactly where the OP was coming from.

Not sure how you came to the conclusion that I didn't understand, but hey, each to their own.

So, the OP comes in and gives his story of his first month in-game, and he gets criticized.  Most of the time when people say they are buying the game, people ask them to come back in a 2-week to a months time to give a first-hand account of their experiences.  Apparently, the player base only wants the good part of the game known.  Another thing to add to the list of reasons to avoid this game....the community.

and Lo the game is full of asshattery to the only place to survive is in a guild and as part of a zerg? biggest Zerg wins huh?
Exactly why i stopped playing, I am far from Casual but getting my ass handed to me by some vindictive little shit 'because they can' is not my idea of relaxing in a game.

my beef with open pvp and full loot has always been this. there is no meaningfull pvp or roleplaying, the only thing these games create is a world of thugs, for thugs, where hundreds of people's only desire in the game is to gank lower levels who cant put up a fight, for no good reason.
Im looking forward to mortal online, but if I have one concern, its this. I dont mind getting killed a few times, but ganked over and over just because the little shit on the other side cant be assed to farm his own mats or is just in the mood for being a prick? no thanks.

then you shouldn't play full loot ffa pvp games. Also note, this isn't indicative of the over all game

The OP went in blind, is exaggerating, and/or had bad luck. The game isn't one massive grief fest, but you die as a newbie. I'm going to go with the fact that 1) transfers just happened so refugees are doing some killing around NPC towns to get a feel for the population, and 2) he went in blind. There are quite a few things you can do as a newbie to not lose anything when you die, as I've tried pointing out to people numerous times

1) Bank often: Seems to me that the OP didn't follow this truism if he was losing stuff like this as a newbie. Hes also wrong about the regent situation. Yes, everyone needs regents, but no one is farming the mobs that drop the regents, unless they are doing it for a quest. People farm mobs that drop gold and use the gold to buy regents. In the same time it takes to farm 200 regents from mobs, a player can farm 1k worth of regents from mobs.
2) Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is what is defined as being stupid. Chances are, the OP was in one of the few areas that people go through on there way to other areas. Red moon isn't a newbie's area to hang out in, stone hold or Moonclaw are much better locations to live at as a newbie
3) Join a good clan and live in their NPC city. As soon as you join a clan, anyone at war with that clan can kill you inside NPC cities, this is why its best to stay in the clan's city of residence instead because 1) its portected, 2) your friends are there, 3) there are generally good spots to farm
4) Buy bowyer and make your own arrows. I suggest that someone make about 2k worth of arrows, by farming his/her own mats, before doing any major mob killing.
5) With those arrows do your title quest. Only take 100-200 arrows at a time. This should get you archery skill, THE FARMING skill, up fairly quickly.
6) Level up rigor, this can be done most effectively at brownies. You can see a guide to leveling up most things at bannerfall.wordpress.com (magic is outdated)
7) Read the newbie help guides
Doing the above will ensure success and getting over that first week hump.

Its not the story, its the reason he quit. He quit because he felt that he died too much and feels like hes exaggerating, although if he only played during the transfer period he could be right that newbie ganking increased. Honestly though, if a person is going to quit the game because they died a lot, nothing is going to keep them in the game because that's the nature of FFA PvP. You will die, you will get ganked, you will be out matched a lot. If these things are going to cause you to quit you probably shouldn't play FFA PvP games.

Please keep in mind that only a small percentage of Darkfall players actually post here or on the Darkfall main site.

I'm surprised how many decent people I've met in game asking if I need any help or if I'd like to hunt with them.

I did appreciate the "mini-review". It was well done and it seemed genuine.
