Go human or alfar, as of yet being a Ork, Mahirim, or Dwarf only give you the advantage of being a huge target.
Start training lesser magic / archery / melee right away. You will want to hit 100 lesser, 50 greater, and then for melee you will want to hit 75, buy the melee mastery of your weapon, and get that to 50. For archery you will also want to get that to 75, and then get all of it's upgrades including sharp shooter, and get those to 50.
Once you hit 50 greater, I would suggest going for witchcraft first and getting that to 75, however.. if you want to be a "mage" type player which the upcoming expansion will be creating a diversity.. "Class" type roles for players to chose, I would suggest getting Fire Magic to 100. Still, witchcraft to 75 is a must for almost all characters I feel.
Remember the above will take a few months, I'm just laying out a good set of goals.
The new expansion will be fixing a lot of bugs, misshaps (combat), and other things as well as adding to the seas and things you can do at water, so if you want to be a "pirate" I suggest you craft yourself a raft and get exploring. |

So I broke down and decided to try the game. Would be nice if I could connect, or when I do connect it would actually stay connected. Every 10-15 min I'm getting a "Lost Connection to Server (2)" error. I've gone through all the steps their tech support has provided, except for downloading a third party application to "Sync my clock". This issues started as soon as I entered the game for the first time, I have been unable to play more than a few hours. I have talked to their tech support and requested a refund, I have filed a dispute with paypal for a refund. I'm starting to think I'm just going to be out 50 bucks on a game that does not perform as it should. I should not have to change a million settings just for one program to run on my computer while every other MMO works flawlessly. Good luck with your time in DFO I hope it's better than mine has been. |

Sorry to hear that, so far I had a little trouble with the purchase but the site was helpfull and that was sorted out. It probably won't be until tomorrow that I can play this game as my download speed has dropped to about 100 kb/s now :(. However I'm gravitating towards the Alfar race and am happy to read there are no levels floating over players heads (a bit like the old days for me). I don't mind being someones bitch for the first month or three in a game as what goes around comes around and revenge is so much fun. Also justifies me riding every noob and his mother later on in the game :) I only hope that DFO keeps me interested that long!

I have bought other MMO/game's only to have them not work at all but never as expensive as darkfall so I feel for you. |

I'll be looking forward to reading your DFO report after your first few days of playing the game. I was THIS close to buying it last night. All I had to do was click the buy button, but I backed out. I'm interested to see what your first impression will be. Current: None |

You should know, though, that alfar is the most overcrowded race of them all Oh, and read the latest news, there's a few more hints on the racial skills. |

First thing you should do in Darkfall is join a good clan. It's not like other mmos where you find your feet for a bit and learn the game before you make a choice on the clan you join. You will need the support of your clan to learn how to play the game and for them to support you if you are having a tough time with PvP. If you are on NA server a clan called NEW is designed for new players to spend their first month in their player city and learn the game together before moving on to another clan.

I didnt like morrowind, but liked oblivion. I never played Asheron call, ultima online or any sandbox open world pvp with full loot, but still like darkfall a lot. Only reason why i left the 1st time was because of the grind and i heard they got reed of it now so its cool. In beta, 3 days of grind and i got only 25 2 hand sword skills. Today, i heard that someone got in one day around 50 2 hand weapon skill. Thats so great. I like all about darkfall, but the magic spam is what i hate since i like melee over anything so thats why im waiting for the next expansion and while i wait, i dont even play any other mmorpg's, but i play competitive multiplayer games at the moment. Played DF trial for 2 weeks none stop. Check out my pvp video during trial.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJnU_JEqKRM |

Your prayers may be answered soon, checkout the spotlight section on the DF forums, there is a thread there about incoming specialization skills and much needed love to melee and archery. That's the end of magic golden era. Time to start a witch hunt ! |

I'm thinking about doing this as well. I however will not have my gaming computer since some loved ones are buying me some super parts for Christmas lol. My buddy has just purchased the game. Money isn't really a huge issue.
Keep in mind I don't really care as long as I get around 20 fps with stuff turned down, will this game run on a laptop with a: Intel 2.0ghz Dual Core and a 8600 GeForce card, with 4gb of DDR2 RAM? |

I am jumping in also (Patching as i type this) Im an old UO player had a 10 year vet account on Atlantic and was looking forward to Darkfall for a longtime but was put off at its launch , figured i would wait a bit and see how it develops .. Seems the time is now , with so much positive stuff coming from many sources...

Jesus, what's going on.
Oki a small warning, DF is not like your normal mmo. When I started I got the WTF is wrong with the GUI, but you will get use to it after a few hours. The learning curve is also pretty hard, and your first week will be slow. After a while you'll have enough money and gear to relax.
Join the NEW clan, and I'll see if I can bump the advice we gave a while ago. |

I'm thinking of starting as well. After playing WoW and LotRO for the last 4+ years combined, I dont think I can stomach another questing theme park MMO (I was going to play Aion and even pre-ordered via Steam, but doubt I will play it now). I have been taking a break from gaming for most of 2009 and ready to start-up again considering its the dark/depressing/cold season now haha. My first MMO was AC1 back in 99 and I have fond memories of skill based gaming. I just hope I can get passed the lack of polish I keep hearing DF has. Almost done building my latest gaming rig, so I might as well wait until this supposed holy grail patch is released ;) Currently Playing: Casually Playing: Waiting for: |

Lol - don't tell people they can go to Walmart and pick up one of those money credit cards or whatever. Walmart won't approve purchases that are made overseas in the middle of no where - they'll just decline the transaction. |

I was thinking of maybe trying it out once more after the expansion. Don't forget to post! I want to know how it goes. |
