After Thrusday's controversial patch, the official forums exploded with various threads arguing both sides of the issue. This morning I decided I was done with the game and uninstalled it. The uninstaller left over 200MB of files behind so I posted a message in the forum and only used fairly minor profanity like cr*p.

When I went back to check for responses, the thread was gone. Maybe justifiable based on language but i've seen a lot worse there often.

I posted another thread about censorship and it was gone within seconds.

Any game that needs that level of agressive forum censoring is definately in trouble.

I never played Fallen Earth, but when a company starts doing in-depth censorship it's always a sign that they are in trouble. So I'm going to strike that game of my list of MMORPG's to try.

What was controversial about the patch?

what was so bad about the patch? since when did forum moderating determine the state of a game?

I don't get why this patch is such a big deal? Plain and simple muts are OP, not as in they do to much dmg but as in you don't have to aim to hit someone. IDK why the devs did it this way in the first place, you should have to aim to hit with a mut  just like you shoot a gun.  IDK if people would be happy with that either, but I really don't care if you want to play a game with auto target play the 100 other games on the market with that shit.

Dude 200mb? Ive uninstalled games that have left gigs  on my computer.  I always check and just delete the folder that the uninstallers always seem to leave behind.  Sorry if you were one of those leaving because of the patch, but come on man how can it be fair to do dmg with out even aiming what if people don't want muts they are totally at a disadvantage with that shit.

edit.  So ok maybe the Muts do to much dmg as well as auto target. I was hearing people taking half of peoples life down in like 2 seconds, and in some cases instant kills, that is just insane. Now they complain that their abilities are useless, lol well yeah they may seem useless compared what they used to be. I just cant believe people will actually quit over this type of thing.  Well look at the bright side it will get all the QQ's out early and leave all the cool people in the game that just act like a baby and quit a game when they don't get their way.

In other words you left a nasty msg about your issues, were pissed they didn't want to hear it, then made a second post to complain about it? I'm not so sure you would have a different outcome in any other game.

It's just indicative of the FE teams approach. They didn't like the social discussions in the Global Chat, so they ended it. Forum threads not to THEIR liking are routinely closed or removed. Thermal nerf, no warning, no apologies, no respec, too bad.

No matter, if you like PVP, the game sucks anyway.

I'm sorry they took away your "I win" button. If you read the forum rules They clearly state:

"I'm leaving" threads are removed. They are viewed as troll threads and lead to the inevitable flaming. We welcome constructive feedback and are always sorry when a customer is unhappy.

I don't know how they can make it any clearer than that. Unless it's:

All posts referring to message board censorship will be removed. All message board content is allowed/removed at the discretion of Fallen Earth LLC. These posts will be removed and the poster warned. Any further posts will be removed, and the poster will be banned from the message boards. Also, working around a ban to continue posting is also prohibited and may incur an extension of a current ban.

Whiny spoiled kids :).

You will always have MMORPG forums to troll on kido, allthough you'll get slaped with some common sense and spanked with some logic even here.

Ok, you violate forum rules over there (probably never even read them) and come vent about it over here. Now I understand why these forums get so much haters...

Always a sign of trouble? Have you ever played EQ2, which has been around for half a decade with very strict forum moderation?

And taking someone who has been moderated on a forum about how bad the state of a game is, is not the best of ways to determine which games you might enjoy playing. Instead, try the trial for yourself and make up your own mind based on the game itself.

This sentence is false.

FYI, I don't PVP and so it wasn't an 'I WIN' button. I created a character with all mutations based on the rules of the game for PvE. They changed the rules without warning or recourse (other than reroll) causing a large amount of AP to be wasted. While the damage done by this specific change is debatable, as shown by 1000's of posts in their forums, the general attitude of the devs is what i object to and is why i decided not to waste more time developing characters that will probably be ruined by the next random, poorly designed, kneejerk patch.

I hadn't read the forum rules in any detail, I doubt anyone does. At least they clearly state their policy somewhere, but just silently removing the threads is more designed to make it appear there aren't people unhappy with their game than in moderating the boards. You lock a troll or flame thread, not remove it so you can pretend all is wonderful.

Anyway, I'm done with them. Just felt the need to rant about it since the game started out so good. I was in beta and actually pre-ordered it. ***I NEVER PREORDER GAMES*** but made my first (and only) exception due to the potential of this one.

What'll be funny, at least to me, is that this patch hasn't been out for longer than a week or so and all these "knnejerk" I'm quitting people, lol. The funny I mention will be if Icarus does in a little while offer up a limited 1 time recap that allows the switching around of AP spent on muts and if those people had of had the same patience that they are blasting Icarus for not having, they could respec and continue on playing.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not blasting anyone about their right to reply to their perceived kneejerk "nerf" with their own kneejerk "I quit". That said, IF Icarus does do as state above and offer that limited respec (that they may just figuring how to work out at this moment), don't come back to these forums complaining about them offering the respec that ya'll weren't patient enough to wait for. If so I'm going to be all those threads like white on rice (and in a manner that won't break the CoC, EULA and TOS here).

Asheron's Call. The one open world, classless progression, live team content oriented game that ALL game sites and developers show little respect for as a template to pattern future MMOs after.

1) The way some Mutations worked needed a nerf in a bad way. It was talked about ad nauseum before the nerf and it was pretty obvious that certain combination's of mutations were just stupidly over-powered. Basically it was an "I-win" button. Yeah sometimes things like this aren't caught before an MMOG launches and need to be nerfed after... Just be glad they are starting to take care of this stuff sooner rather than later. The only point that I do agree with is that if they are going to do skill changes to this degree they need to figure out how to do respecs sooner rather than later, and free ones should be given after patches like this. It's just good form. That is the ONLY leg any of the arguers had to stand on.  The bottom line is, they made their decision, and had very good reasons, and "discussions" on their forums about the nerfs were getting out of hand.

2) Forum rules like that are pretty standard across the board anywhere you go... They indicate nothing. People that have hurt feelings over the nerf and being censored on the official forums just want to believe and/or make others believe it's some sort of indication that the game is in trouble because they are being vindictive... plain and simple, and it's a complete fallacy.

3) Buhu, welcome to PC101. Sometimes an uninstaller leaves files behind that you have to delete manually. Way to grasp at straws for something to complain about.

My suggestion, stop taking it so personally and if you don't like the game, move on...

Love these posts. I agree that they should at least allow some respecs. Although, if you are horribly over-powered and you know it, expect a nerf at some point.

Forum punishment was appropriate, but they really should let people respec if they're going to make a major nerf.

Pet peeve of mine when companies don't.

The Secret World

Ahh, the overpowered mutations had spread onto the mmorpg.com forums.

I remember back in SWG Pre-Cu times. Same story different game. Creature Handlers overpowered (multiple pets), Combat Med / Rifleman that can throw poisons thru walls, Melee Stackers need I go on.

And every time something changes, people piss and moan and use the - I am outta here, this game sucks - thread.

People looking for the Alpha Class and the one hit your dead specs.

Did you ever hear, when its too good to be true, it usually is.

Honestly, I am glad players like this leave the game, probably the same players they buy Chips and do hacks.

(This is strictly my opinion and I know not all players are not corrupt, just the majority that piss and moan).

EDIT: Spell check FTW!

It sucks that they don't have respecs. They're coming. They should have been in already. Everyone knew it though. It's been a known issue since day one. Getting mad about it now is just silly.

really it wasnt that muts were overpowered it was that when they nerfed weapons they never adjusted muts so they were as powerfull as they were before but weapons were serverly reduced so they just seemed overpowered in the current version

Haha it is too bad i have to once again remind people of the fail of PVP in RPG's.Drama drama drama.Soon EVE or already has started their drama over the new updates, then Dust will start more Drama lol.

You know i PVP almost every single day,but not once in all my years gaming have i done it in a RPG,because it is a guarantee fail,it cannot be done right ,no way no how.If you think PVP is good in your RPG game, then the rest of the game is a fail, you will never see a good all around PVP game.

REAL PVP games are organized, you have a set time usually, set teams,or 1 on 1 ,everyone has equal stats,it's just skill versus skill, minus the latency issue of course.REAL PVP games have maps ,that have had a lot of effort and thought put into them,so you have ,Z-axis,defensive positions, offensive positions[camping],splash damage, sniping, short range, mid range weapons, you get all the aspects of combat.

In RPG's they take the exact same spells, abilities ,maps the entire PVE game and just add in PVP and call it a done deal ..lol   ,i'm sorry but...NOT !.

Fallen Earth is a crafting game, that is the aspect they should have really put the entire effort into.A top notch effort into the crafting, would keep that game rocking for ever.If people are playing in the hopes it leads to a great PVP game, well good luck on that front.

Uninstallers generally only delete files that were installed at the time of the original installation. Those 200MB were probably files that had changed since, your setup files and screenshots and such things. Having said that, 200MB is hardly a big deal. That's less than you transfer in a single picture from your camera - unless you're using a piddling little hard drive you won't even notice it.

As for forum censorship - it's their forum, they can do what they want.

I helped over 300 new players in EvE, how many did you help ?

11/07/09 8:45:57 PM#23

ppl should know the difference between closed thread and deleted, a thread that break the posting rules should be only closed but not deleted
whats the point in deleted a thread? some player is having a rage moment and post in a bad way close the thread and move on there is no good reason to delete the thread unless you want to keep the board like "this is happy happy fluffy fluffy board and all things are in pink all player are happy and this is the perfect place to be"

they already mentioned respecs of some kind are coming

the nerf was to place two skills on one timer (not two mutation lines, two individual skills). people quitting over this, well, you'd prob quit over something else anyway.
