As a old game player way back when EQ 1 started. I have found myself sitting in the WoW universe still waiting for game developers to re-invent a new means of entertainment in a online community. It always seems to be the same form of entertainment: 1. Raiding is fun: Random chance for gear upgrades with 20+ other people. Rinse and Repeat. 2. Professions are fun: Create the same items as 100+ players do and Sell Sell Sell for entertainment. 3. PVP is fun: You are the best and strive to repeatedly kill other players to prove that fact to yourself and to others. 4. Quests are fun: Kill so many mobs, and collect so many items to compete the quests. 5. Accomplishments, and Vanity Items are fun: Farm, Earn, Buy, and collect items that serve no other purpose but to give you the right to brag to others. Rinse and repeat until they put you on ignore.
I have always looked forward to virtual environments that you can escape to and the game developers would give tools to players to enrich the environment more for the sake of entertainment. Currently I do not see any games that do that. Even after you been playing for several years I have to ask. Are there any creative games out there right now that you can log in and say. OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME . And it never gets old, but stays fresh with it's player base. I feel the game makers are limited on imagination and failing at new ways to entertain us. Is this just me or is there something out there that you see and that I am missing? |
