Does that mean LOTRO should have real time combat, a lot more classes and an update to character customization options. Considering AOC has had them for over a year?

I really don't see the point, when there's a lot that needs to be done that should be considered far more important.

you outta try playing a LoTRO warden, a bit more difficult than AoC though since LoTRO does not light up the button you need to hit next

Anway good for Funcom, I hope they can  hang onto whatever playerbase they have so they can finish TSW. being teh eternal optimist I am I they have learned what not to do with their last two games and TSW might turn out to be playable.

Everquest 2 had that 4 years ago. And Lotro didn't have the social gear at release either. It took them a year and half precisely to implement it.

You need to work on your precision it  is about as precise as a hand grenade  LOL. LoTRO got the cosmetic outfits in Book 12 which was released Februay 13th 2008, 9 months after release.  EQII patched in appearance slots in mid 2007, August or September if I remember correctly. At any rate it was after I unsubbed which was in June 2007.

Edit - found it . EQII's appearnace slots made their debut in update 38 which was September 13th 2007, here is the Warcry article on the patch

eq2.warcry.com/news/view/76826-Everquest-2-Game-Update-38-Is-Now-Live

Appearance

* Upon reaching level 20, you'll be able to access new appearance item slots on the inventory window.
* Items worn in the appropriate slots in the Appearance tab will override the outward appearance of your character.
* Items worn in the Appearance tab will not convey any of their benefits to the character wearing them.
* Some clothing items, such as city rewards will be wearable by everyone.

Thanks for correcting me there then. It's not 2 years ago either. Lotro had it 1 year ago 9 months after release and 1 year after it was in EQ2. It doesn't really make it a valid argument to bury AoC attempt to bring them now to which I obviously objected.

And I'm pretty sure the cosmetic gear is around since 2005, I can't remember the game. Thought it was EQ2, but now I see it was something else.

umm Lotro was released in June  2007 so it would be 8 months after release and 6 months after EQII had it. Anarchy Online was the first game I can remember with social item slots, like the famous sunglasses.

Ok now you're a bit off, I'm dead sure Lotro was released on April (14th for pre-orders, 24th for others), 2007.

yep you are right, I think I was confusing it because June was when I dropped my EQII subscription. Still April to February makes it 10 months from LoTRO's release to social outfits and September to February is 4 or 5 months from EQII's social clothing to LoTRO's book 12.

Sometimes I am tempted to restart EQII but all of my old guild there has moved now to LoTRO and/or Aion.

Of course. But happy to know there are plans and considerations taking place for it.

I would have preferred if they had planned for something more substantial. Adding social armors won't save AoC and is not what players are asking.

There are plenty of future short term updates that the company is working on out there. Which is where you will find preference if your an average subscriber to the game. Many people had surveys so I am sure FC have a good idea on what people are asking for. This I would class fits into some asking for but right up high on the list. Simply put it is news that this will come through at some point. That is how I am taking it.

Seems to me that an mmmRPG that makes no provision for social clothing at launch is screwing up from the start. I know that the rpg elements of an rpg don't appeal to everyone, but the kind of players to whom they do appeal to are the kind of players who make an online community fun to be a part of whether you care or not.

They should have made AoC a giant deathmatch console game like they wanted to.

And they stole it from EQ2 themselves. Still, it is a good idea even though it can be confusing on PvP servers. I would prefer if it only worked in some places on them but in all places except Sieges on PvE servers.

LOTRO did added some features to the MMOs but this is one of EQ2s ideas, they have actually added a lot of small stuff that other games have copied.

There was social clothing in from start but you had to change for armour when you go out to fight. As far as I know have all games used the same idea from start if they even had any social clothes at all from launch.

Appearance slots is something EQ2 made a few years ago, and some others patched in after that.

I don't believe there was.  All clothing was armor with appropriate stats.  iirc heavy armor wearers couldn't wear cloth armor? I know there was a listing for 'social' clothes in the market but it was empty. Last time I checked, 2 months ago it was just the clothes left over from the tutorial. Thats it.
