When is it ok to have "aliens" in a movie that look just like humans?

IMO, if you are doing a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, or The Thing, and neither one of those need to be remade.

In other words, never.

The original Glactica was cool because the Cylons were evil robots. The remake was, IMO, very uncool because the cylons were just humans. Bleh.

V is also not cool for the same reason. What are the aliens? Just humans, that say they're aliens. Bleh.

Why is this so uncool? Because for the most part, it just comes off like a way to save on special effects make up.

At least put some ridges on their heads like in Star Trek. Look at all the Star Trek episodes. Aliens are either a different color, like blue or green, or they have some sort of different ridges on their heads. Really, that's all it takes. Or like the Borg, at least put some cool electronic gear on their heads.

Or even better go all out and make really cool looking aliens like in Star Wars.

I'm just saying, calling your actors aliens, and not doing any make up at all is just cheesy.

I mean it's ok for ONE episode where they are controlled by creatures that crawl inside their ear or something, but for a whole series? No!

Hah!  Exactly!  I feel the same way but I wondered if I was the only one.

My friends loved the Battlestar Galactica remake but I got turned off more and more by the human Cylons.  When the Cylon woman got pregnate from a human man I was like, " WTF!  Now they can't even pretend that the Cylons aren't human if they can interbreed with humans."

And you are exactly right when you said it's just a cheap ass way to save money on make up and special effect.

Grammatically Retarded.

Yeah.. A quick 5 min in the makeup chair to throw on some ears, or a ridge to the nose isent to mutch to ask...

TV, and movie people are really getting lazy.

Or at least do like Doctor Who and say they are useing some tech to look human...

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Huh?  They need to remake the thing!

"The Thing" is a remake of "The Thing from Another World" which is based on a short story called "Who Goes There?" which really does need to be made into a movie - it could be really intense if you paced in right and used quality actors.  Fear, suspicion, and suspense rather than Kurt Russel, gunplay and explosions.

The movie "Who Goes There?" could make "The Thing" look like Aliens Vs. Predator when it's compared to the masterpiece that is Alien.

I thought the imposter theme is the approach that the new battlestar galactica took?  Which I believe is the same as with V?

Yes, Battlestar and V are the same thing. The aliens are imposters.

But, you can make up anything like that. The "cylons" have human skin or whatever the excuse is, the V aliens are lizards inside of human bodies.

It really doesn't impress me no matter what story you make up, they are still just humans.

Now, in The Thing it's totally acceptable becuase there are PLENTY of monsters:

But in V or Battlestar, I get a soap opera with nothing but actors, just telling me some blah blah blah story that they are aliens. I'm not buying it.

SHOW me the aliens! Again, put some green make up on them, or just throw some silly putty on their face and make some ridges. SOMETHING!

Oh, I"m an alien, because aliens are controlling my brain, or because I entered a super alien costume maker thingy that make me LOOK like a hot human, but REALLY I"m a creepy alien.

Read that in a Homer Simpson sarcastic voice.

I"m going to say the caveat is, it's OK to make your aliens look like Humans, if we see the aliens, A LOT!

A good example would be Terminator, the movie. Yes, we see a guy that looks human, but pretty early on we see an evil robot, and we see it for a LOT of the movie.
