Yeah I remember when I first got the game and was still on dial-up. Was like 15 hours worth of downloads and that was pre CoP LOL.

I must admit FFXI is way too long for the patching, but well i think the game worth it.

Either one long-ish patch every two months or weekly down time which could last up to and over 6 hours on a Tuesday ... you decide.

i clealrly not see the point here. Did i talk about wow? And i dont talk about 1 patch every two month but the first patching when you install the game.

By the way i didnt bash the game i really dont know why you quote me witht this argyment.

I didn't say you did bashed anything. I quoted you because I was responding to what you said ... which is why you quote people. The point is you have two options for updates one big update when you need to or multiple updates over time with smaller amounts of info. That is all.

There is no way to speed up the patching process unless you are able to download the patches manually from the site and install them yourself.

Nah... the patching takes a while when you first install the game. It's an extremely massive game, and there's a lot of content that has to be downloaded and patched even if you don't have all the expansions.

The whole game is about 9 gigs.

It's only a one-time thing for the 5 hour patching process... major updates after that are not nearly as long. Maybe 30 minutes or so at worst for the larger ones. Of course then it depends a lot on how heavily the servers are being slammed to update it.

I mean, yeah.. it is a pain in the ass to patch something that long... but  when you put it in perspective with the fact that it's a MMO you can quite plausibly end up spending hundreds of hours playing... I personally don't understand why some people make a big fuss about it. I start the patching process and then go watch a movie, go out, do other things I'd normally be doing anyway... including playing other games. -shrug-

I just downloaded the trial myself and it is saying 9 hours. But i'm bored of WoW and Guild Wars and looking for something to play until SW:TOR comes out but if i end up liking the game I most likely stay and might go to FFXIV if it is any good.
