I remember awhile back there was a lot of speculation and teeth-gnashing over Aventurine charging existing EU customers the cost of a new client if they wanted to start on NA-1 at release. Lots of people, let's call them trolls, said that EU -> NA transfers would cost money. A number of other people (let's call them fanbois) also pointed out that most MMO companies (e.g. Blizzard, Mythic) do indeed charge separately for an EU and NA client.

According to the official site, EU->NA transfers are free until Nov 4. Round over, another win to the fanbois.

The interesting thing will be whether the people who cancelled their sub cause they thought they would be charged $$$ for transfers will re-sub.

Of course - we are correct.

And with this I would like to also point out that I personally never steered anyone in the wrong direction regarding Darkfall

And also Aventurine has AGAIN proved their trustworthyness and ability to bring to the table what they promised.

Hope you meant Dec 4th or Nov  4th of 2010...

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

You do not need an active account on either side!  You can start the transfer from an inactive EU account to a NEW NA account and not buy any subscription.  So if you quit and do not want to play now, you can transfer your EU character and sit on your account on NA until you feel the game is ready for you again.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. When will developers (and players) become sane? Now go eat some grass like everyone else.

They waited far too long and I've moved on to other games.

So, you STILL have to pay for an account?

"One character per server."
"One character per account."

Even if you can transfer your character don't you still need to shell out another 50 bucks for the NA client? That's the reason I quit in the first place. Adventurine at first said we could have one character per server. Then they went back on their word  and changed it to one character per account. This is what pissed off most of us that quit. It was completely dishonest IMO.

Aventurine doesn't need those topped major credit card companies. People should trust other much less known, bottom of the barrel, "niche" minor credit card companies or just send money directly to Tasos's personal account ........you can trust him

They are working with different companies on each server so they can't really ask them to share the money from each account now can they? btw you DO NOT need to be buy the NA client. You need an EU account bought before Nov 4 and thats it. To play you obviously would need to resub to the NA server but to make the switch you need to make absolutely no commitment.

This is comedy gold, right there.

@Topic

After the enormous backlash going around forums about paid transfers, it would be commercial suicide to not allow at least a period of free transfers. It's a win-win scenario for them: the appease the angry mob, increase their pitiful yearly result and get much needed subs money.

Really, it was not even an option. Even the amazing marketing dept. at AV realized that.

People should praise those who were vocal and complained about it, instead of having the "AV is always right" policy, which does not bring anything positive to the game and the community. Constructive criticism has done it yet again.

Well, they never said if or how much they were going to charge for transfers, only that there would be a nominal charge involved. Now the service is available for free and doesn't even require an active account on either server to transfer there can be no question that this is a big tick for Aventurine. To be still trying to turn it into a negative for Av is deeply dishonest IMO.

What is the issue?

In order to transfer you just need to subscribe to the game. No need to purchase the client twice.

Actually you do not even have to have an active subcription to transfer either.

For free for a month. Don't forget about that.

And I'm not being negative. It's obvious that the free transfers period is a good thing. I simply don't think this is an isolated fact from everything else that transpires around the game. I think that it happened because of public uproar. I think they have other reasons to do that, too, and they are not about customer satisfaction.

In itself, these are just comments. They are not negative or positive. Just my personal criticism. Read them as that, only.

Now, they never said how much a transfer would cost, but they did state there would be a fee. Aventurine went on to say that to be able to play upon the N.A. launch, that  you would need to buy the American Darkfall client.

"On the American server: The American server will launch on July 13th. Characters from the European server can be cloned and moved without their possessions 3 months after the American launch. Certain restrictions and charges will apply, to be announced at a later date. In the meanwhile if you want to play on the American server at launch you need to buy the American Darkfall client. More information on the American server will be available in a few days.Update June 24

Aventurine went on to clarify in the same post:

"Clarification: American players wanting to clone and transfer their characters do not have to buy another client. Everyone else needs to buy the American Darkfall client to play on the American server. The European rights and the American rights to Darkfall do not belong to the same company, therefore you cannot freely transfer between the two territories, as is the case with most MMORPGs. Our offer of character cloning / transfer to American players is because we had said that we would try to accommodate them should they want to start playing on the European server."

What has changed since June, that a transfer fee or having to buy the "American" Darkfall client is no longer necessary? Maybe Aventurine negotiated a deal with whomever holds the American rights?

For a moment there, I thought the OP was Polarization.  I guess this does follow the time honored practice in DFO, where you switch a letter in someone's name,  appearing to be someone you are not - though typically for more nefarious purpose than just posting in a forum.  Whether this was done intentionally or unintentionally (yeah, right) it is worth a laugh.

Uh nothing. Its exactly like they said it would be. People wanting to transfer characters do not have to buy the client again. And they didn't.

Aventurine is one of the few companys stick to what they promised, simply as that.

I don't see how what you quoted answers my question, but whatever.

The June 24th announcement clearly states that European characters could be cloned and moved(without possessions) 3 months after launch. The following is also clearly stated, "Certain restrictions and charges will apply, to be announced at a later date. In the meanwhile if you want to play on the American server at launch you need to buy the American Darkfall client. More information on the American server will be available in a few days."

Aventurine then posted a follow-up/clarification/contradiction less than an hour later stating that American players wanting to clone and transfer would not need a to buy a new client, but that anyone wanting to play at launch on the NA server would be required to buy a new client. They went on with an attempt to justify this with the following:

"The European rights and the American rights to Darkfall do not belong to the same company, therefore you cannot freely transfer between the two territories, as is the case with most MMORPGs."

One of the big questions and requests back before and during the NA launch, was why not let us just re-roll on the NA server? Each time it was brought up, the typical answer was the "publishing rights" conflict.

So again, what has changed since June that now allows Aventurine to transfer accounts without any charges attached?

Nothing changed, its still not free and it costs, there is still the difference in licensing between these two different regions and its still Aventurines will to accomodate those players who they invited to EU but are located in NA and they had promised "allowences" back in february.

Dunno how they do it technically, maybe they pay the tranfer feefor everyone transferring from their own pockets ?  The gift period is over after a month and they will charge the usual fee afterwards given that all players had a chance to receive the gift and allowance made to them that is the free to them tranfer to NA within these limited time offer till dec 5.
