I always liked single player RPG, Dragon Age seems great but before i buy i'd like to know what kind of world is it ?  Is it open like Oblivion ?  I dont like being forced into paths.

Short Answer: Kind of.

Beginning of the game is quite linear, although there are some side quests you can do.

However, once out of the tutorial you can pretty much do anything you want.

That depends how you played Oblivion... Is you fast traveled most everywhere, then yes, it is totally like it, lol. There is not actual world to walk around in. There is a world map with locations on it that you click on and "telelport" to basically. And you are pretty locked in, at least in the beginning. When you first get to the world map, you can only go to ONE place. You can't just go out an explore. And it is pretty confined for a good while after that. I don't know about the rest of the game though.

No, it is not open world like Oblivion. It is broken up into areas where you sort of fast-travel to. I usually prefer open-world game maps as well, but I think the game is well done regardless of this fact.

I picked it up and started playing last night and was thoroughly hooked... I couldn't get myself to go to bed until it was WAY too late... and I'm regretting it at work today. Wouldn't have it any other way though!

I think as you progress in the game you "unlock" new areas. I would imagine that later on in your played game the world would seem quite large and open.

I'm glad the OP asked this question because I was wondering the same thing.  I have a really hard time anymore playing games which are claustrophobic and don't let me just go off and explore.

There is no "open world" like Oblivion, and thats one of the things i don't like about the game. When you leave a town or whatever, a map appears and u select little pre-determined spots to go to, depending on where you are in the story, some area's wont be availiable, and some (after completing the quest) won't allow to return to them.

No open world to run around in and explore is my biggest gripe, but if you can get past that, its a pretty good game.

Can you say Mass Effect and Knight of the Old Republic? You only controlled one character in those, right?

Also, NWN1 certainly did not fail. NWN2 was made by Obsidian and not Bioware, so there's no comparison.

And in another thread, you claim you control 5 characters, when in fact it's 4 AND you say it's an RTS.

Do you have ANY clue of what you're talking about?
