didnt you know...? This game is based on L3's code.. which was stolen..
|
|
That couldnt be the case, if any of the code was from L3 then they would have a major lawsuit on their hands, this is possibly based on L3 because well they were the guys involved that left NCSoft, there have been rumours lately that NC actually wants to get involved with Bluehole Studio (AKA fund them) I guess they sort of regreted the decision now that they have seen the product, so if the OWNERS of the L3 code dont seem to care why should you?

i'm excited for this game. As for code being stolen i doubt its here at all or NC would have been able to shut them down a long time ago, considering the game is in beta, i believe, in korea...i'll have to recheck that of course.
Edit : cuz i thought a diff game company was mentioned We are all ignorant until truth is revealed to us.. However.. How do we know the truth is not in fact a lie.. some people inside NC sold the code to them.. and they continued the work, but under another name, so NC cant do anything about it.
WIKIPEDIA:On April 27, 2007, Seoul Metropolitan Police reported that seven former employees of NCsoft are suspected of selling the Lineage III source code to a major Japanese game company. According to NCsoft, the potential damage caused may exceed $1 billion USD.

The people who are making TERA were the people who were working on L3 at NC, well some of them, and Bluehole is Korean not japanese.
When the Lineage 3 project was put on hold some people got fired and some ppl left they created Bluehole Studio so that was much after that happened that ou quoted.

Originally L3 was going to use U3(supposedly anyway) before the code was sold, later on when the project restarted they said they would do their own engine. Coincidence or not we may never know:) |

Even if it is a great game it just looses all merit, i mean, if the team isnt capable enough to do a game without stealing a source code, how the hell are they capable of evolving the game from now on? If this is true, then this game is not worth the time... |

Nah, been burnt too many times by Asian MMO's which cant keep me interested for more than a few weeks. This looks like another grind fest where you will do the same thing over and over again, fighting the same stuff for hours, with almost no class customization, everyone looks the same and do the same thing; hit 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, mob dead, repeat. Think I'll pass, no matter how pretty the game is... *cough*aion
The fact that the dev team consists mainly from ex L2 devs is another HUGE minus to me personally. |

Then again if what theyre saying is true, and it was "stolen" by these people, theyre the coders, designers, etc who made it in the first place before getting fired/quitting NC... so it isnt even really stolen, theyre the ones who made it to begin with and are simply putting it into another game, so what does that do to your merit? |

Actually it doesnt quite work that way im afraid, if you work for a company anything that you produce within the company is owned fully by that same company, so lets say you are working for a software developer and in your lunch time you start creating an awesome game system that no one has ever seen before, after a month or two you get pissed off at the company and/or fired and you decide to leave to create your own company with that awesome system you designed, well actually the code you developed while you were there does not belong to you anymore and the company has full rights over it and they can sue you if you decide to remake the code at your new company. I know this to be true in the UK cause this same thing happened at Lionhead.

If this is true, then this game is not worth the time... EPIC games owns the source code to the UE3 engine,it cannot be sold by anyone else,it can only be licensed.Epic is also famous and a great team to join because they not only license their product but as part of the agreement, they help improve, maintain it in any fashion to help the developer. If the developer sees something is missing that they need,EPIC helps to fix the situation.So...license and highly skilled support. From what i have seen of NCSOFT ,they have not advanced their gaming one bit from the Lineage days,so perhaps, they lost their best staff to other venues. To merely go out and license the CRY engine, means nothing, your work has to actually show it was more than wasted spending. As far as sound files, have we seen any Korean game use something other than the "HIYAAA" grunt??music files you know cannot be stolen,it will be too obvious. What is left?artwork?i guess that can be stolen, but again it would be too obvious for a lawsuit so i doubt it.Game "ideas" can be stolen, but they have to actually be implemented,to be stolen,we all have a billion ideas that i am sure are copied in every game,we can't all the games are stealing our "ideas". So the very few things that could have been stolen/sold/bought,i am sure NCSOFT already has their lawyers on top of the evidence,so it will never come true ,i am positive of that.TERA will be it's own game, with obvious features from the Lineage days, after all ,it is their ideas in Lineage,so how could you ever say they are stolen??you cannot steal your own ideas lol. |

And they were going to use UE3 for Lineage 3, up until the whole theft thing (allegedly) happened. That whole situation just sounds weird to me. Anyway, they decided to instead develop an in-house engine for L3.

If they can do that... and the game nurtures the kind of camaraderie that L2 did within clans... that would be awesome. I've seen few MMOs where "clan pride" was so prevalent and being a member actually meant something beyond what clan tag you had next to your name, or on your tabard, etc. In other MMOs, if you were in trouble or being ganked by other players, etc... your clan members didn't care. They were too busy soloing. In L2, far more often than not, if you were in trouble, your clan members would ask where you were and come out to help. Many great memories of hunting down PK'ers in L2 after they'd gone after a clan-mate, with some fun PvP (and the inevitable smack-talking) resulting. So.. here's hoping.

Ditto! Great days when you were with 3 ppl of your clan and you suddently saw yourself surrounded by an enemy clan, usually a full fledge battle would start with ppl arriving from all parts of the game to defend their "flag" and show supremacy of the area. You mention hunting PKers but I also remember being on the other side of the spectrum where after a battle 2 or 3 members ended up with PK counts and now the enemy clan is particularly looking for those members for a bigger "hit" and we had to escort them to areas where our influence was bigger and enemy clans didnt hang around so they could de-karma.

I trash NCSoft a lot for their near lack of presence when it comes to dealing with RMT/botting... but one thing I will always give them credit for... With Lineage 2, they nailed it as far as making a MMO truly PvP-centric, making achievements feel like achievements, and making it frustrating and fun at the same time. Since Bluehole has people who were designers on L2... I really, *really* hope they capture that same thing in TERA.

From Bluehole themselves... ...will be a PvP or PvE game? ...will support solo/small group play? ...will be based on quests or grinds? ...will have instances or an open world?
Soo..more like WOW than L2 then, but with a different battle mechanic. Which is good if they want it to be successful |

All they need now is a good territorial control and intricate guild systems to allow for awesome politics and pvp.

Yeah... L2 could have done well with some better quest content. Though, really... it wasn't really "lacking" either, because there was so much else going on typically. L2 really focused on player-to-player interaction moreso than player-to-npc interaction. And let's be honest... most of the quests in L2 were atrocious lol. I almost quit the game doing my 2nd class change to Phantom Summoner back before they made it easier.... good grief that was horrible. It felt like the Forrest Gump of quests... you think it's done... and then it keeps going. In L2 anyway, PvE content definitely was not the focus, outside of grinding. Sovrath on these forums was always explaining that to people - me included at one point. As long as the quests are interesting enough, and combat is as fun as it looks (to me anyway) in TERA... I'm sure it'll be fine.
