Played at launch quit etc etc...

Just some quick questions.

Used to play EQ, was my first MMO and still the one I had most fun with. Favorite part was just kicking back and exploring around. Does VG have this?

How is the end game content nowadays?

How many raids and dungeons are there?

How long does it take to hit cap?

How is the RP?

Can it be played casually?

Will SOE shut it down?

Does it ever get new content?

Will it be dead within the year?

The one thing VG has had trully right from the Begining.

Cant answer the rest verry well so I dident ;p

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Used to play EQ, was my first MMO and still the one I had most fun with. Favorite part was just kicking back and exploring around. Does VG have this? : More than most games. The game is so vast even old vets run into content now and then they never knew existed. If exploring is your thing you will love VG.

How is the end game content nowadays? Content is great

How many raids and dungeons are there? APW and POTA + more upcoming revamped content currently being tested. It doesn't sound like much but APW alone is incredibly big. This plus overland raid mobs and there is enough highend content to keep you going for a long while.

How long does it take to hit cap? A month if you are playing hardcore without a job. Can probabably be done faster if you know the game well and have people to play with. Unlike other games the content starts at level 1. If you rush to max level you will miss out on a lot of what the game has to offer and a lot of fun. A lot of other games you have content from 1 to max level which is just filler to get to the end game. Vanguard is different that way.

How is the RP? Non existant. There are RP guilds out there but i have yet to meet a roleplayer. The roleplaying server has been shut down.

Can it be played casually? Yes it can. I have been playing for 4 months now just making new alts and doing crafting having a blast. I have 4 toons 40+ and a lot of little ones from 15-30.

Will SOE shut it down? That's a real possibility.. however i doubt they would work on revamping old content and doing a full class revision of all classes if they were planning a shutdown.

Does it ever get new content? It gets content in forms of revamping old content that doesn't get visited much anymore. New features are added to the game periodically but don't set your hopes up for a boxed/downloadable expansion such as adding a new continent or new classes. There are currently only 3 developers working on Vanguard and none of them able to create new content. They can only add content already created and tweak it. Vanguard is not making enough money to get the support it needs. I keep hearing people say "I don't want to play VG because it lacks the support other games has" If you like VG then give your support by subscribing otherwise you are part of that problem :). Without more subs ..well you know the rest.

Will it be dead within the year? Depends on if Blizzard will release D3. Bioware SW:TOR might eat some subs too. You never know. If VG takes a big enough hit it will go the way of Matrix Online

My advice is: If you don't have a game right now and are on the prowl. VG is an excellent middle station to your next game. If something should happen to VG it won't be the end of the world as by then you will most likely be playing your next MMO

People have been perdicting VG's death based on new releases for while.

Lord of the Rings

Pirate of the Burning Sea

Age Of Conan

War

DarkFall

Chronicles of Spellborn

Fallen Earth

Aion

I think the Lord Of the Rings probably had the biggest impact.  The PvP games perhaps killed the Sartok server.

The one game I did not mention that probably hurt VG more than other was Free Realms.  Thats when SOE diverted all the VG developers to that project.

I dont see the game being killed by any new releases coming out, unless its a new game from SOE.

I agree.  Everytime a new MMO gets crapped out of the MMO game-mill someone predicts it will be the end of Vanguard.  With regard to PvE. Lord of the Rings is the only game that I know that people went to and did not return to Vanguard.  All the other games people grew bored within weeks and either returned to Vanguard or just kept rotating games.  I also think there is a pretty big group that seems to go back and forth between EQ1, EQ2 and Vanguard based on which game has the newest content release.

Vanguard isn't going anywhere... it still has three PvE servers doing well.

The irony of VG players bitching about people saying VG will die due to "X" being launched is amazing! In fact right here on this site (the most clueless gather here), it was claimed VG was going to kill World of Warcraft, now that is funny!

VG is dead, the population is puny, it is headed down the road travelled by Matrix online. It is only a matter of time.

How is the end game content nowadays? Two very large raids, both over 15 bosses. Large part of the end-game is getting from level 50 to 55 (which takes weeks/months for some) and getting your epic level spells, abilities.

How many raids and dungeons are there? Regular dungeons from level 1 to level 50 around 100. There are no instances and the dungeons are massive. Dungeons are definetly the strongest point of VG and I dare to say, none of the games has ever managed to match their scope.

How long does it take to hit cap? This depends greatly. If you know the game well, you can hit level 50 in a few days, and then a couple of weeks to get frmo level 50 to level 55. If you're a first timer, it can take you a month /played time to get to level 50 and another 2-3 months to get from level 50 to level 55. I am not exaggarating.

Can it be played casually? Yes, very much most of the community is casual.

Will SOE shut it down? Good question.

Does it ever get new content? Only 4 devs working on it, but believe it or not, VG got more content update last year than Lotro since Moria (also a year ago). I can give you point by point comparison if you are interested.

Will it be dead within the year? Good question. Im trying to enjoy every bits of the game while it lasts and then have a good memories of it.

The problem I guess is that VG does things well but others do it better.

Combat in VG is great... no real hands down competition here but lots of ties based on preference.  AoC, CO also have equally engaging combat systems.

Dungeon count might be high, but direction is poor so my way to 34 I never found one.  Unless structures count, then I think maybe 2.

Vast world to explore... not too focused though.  In AoC exploring actually takes you to places.  See something in the distance... walk over... hey something here to see not just more vastness.  Found the ohh ahh moments in VG spread pretty thin.

Should be able to pick it up pretty cheap or forget if SOE has an invite a friend you could latch on to like they have for EQ2.  Guess the problem for VG and a lot of other MMOs is with so many choices you really need to be top of the food chain to grow.  VG is a great MMO, its just not great enough to compete against the new shiny ones that come month after month.  Not that those are better but they are new and people looking for the grail will bounce from shiny to shiny.

Rant off.
