*Make a sequel to your best franchise, undermining your own market instead of creating a bigger market. (EQ2) *Ignore you playerbase completely, throwing a 180 on them, expecting them to just accept it like sheep. (SWG) *Buy up garbage MMO, and make MMO after MMO, foolishly convinced that this won't hurt your reputation. (PoTBS, MxO, Free Realms, Vanguard, DCUniverse, etc..) *Use the funds of your good games to make ass games, ruining the good games in the process (see above) *Make your P2P games P2P+Cash shop during an economy crisis. (EQ/EQ2) *Use India for your QA department. When people complain, proudly announce you're moving your QA department back to the US because India doesn't have the competence to do it. Announce you're focusing on India's growing market 2 weeks later. (SoE failcon) *Telling your players you don't have any plans to make your game Cash Shop. Doing it anyway a day later. When confronted with angry players, tell them it was necessary for financial reasons, while announcing a plethora of new projects on the side. (John Smedley) *Plain sucking. (SoE)

Fixed.
Edit: Forgot: * have a launcher that actually works and that your customer (Flying Lab Software) doesn't have to help you fix so that their release can actually work. * get your billing right so as not to drive people away from your new customer's (FLS) game.

A biased post not looking at the whole industry and just using failed numbers as a crutch to support non fact. All Blizzard does is sequels and they are failing? We are up to FFXIV it is a failing franchise? IMO you DO ignore the player base, how can you not? There is not one developer on this planet who could meet the criteria of thousands of gamers all with different mind sets. When people say "listen to the players" they mean listen to themselves, from a selfish point of view.I have on VERY rare occasion ever heard players cry for the better of any game, they ALWAYS cry to make the game better for JUST themselves. So unless you think a developer can change the game design every 30 seconds, you could NEVER meet the demands of thousands of different mind sets. As far as buying up or publishing anything and everything, this is EXACTLY what Square Enix and many BIG developers/publishers do.The reason as clearly stated in an article i recently read from Square ,was to have a game for every type of gamer for all types of platforms. Gaming is sheer luck, you never know what the current trend in gaming or how players are thinking any given year. You also need a decent player base to draw from at release.I just made another post to basically prove how LUCK is the biggest factor in gaming. That post shows a FARMING game with 23 million EVERYDAY active users. Can anyone in this Hemisphere actually tell me they could have predicted staggering numbers like that for a Farming game?No way in hell, you would be lying if you try to claim you knew it.So before anyone claims to be a so called expert, remember that farming game ,give your head a shake and realize anything is possible,it is 90% luck and timing.

Whoa whoa whoa, Wizardry. Didn't you see the sign posted outside the thread? "Leave your unbiased logic at the door." This thread only has room for SOE hatemongering. I may be sorta harsh on EVE, but damn is this a cool trailer (EVE Dominion). |

SoE has made some Good Decisions, and some Bad Decisions in their time, but the one decision they made, that caused me to be unable to support them anymore, was their embracing of RMT. I find it utterly distasteful, and despite the fact I did love Vanguard, I can't touch it anymore. Irregardless if their motives were as pure as the PR said it was, I think it takes MMOs in a dark direction. The Road to Hell is Paved in Good Intentions. |

Seems to me that most of these complaints are like... 2004'ish. Get over it and move on. |

Cant say i disagree with the OP. Theres a couple of points it would be really hard to argue against. Just to make things clear... |

lol I loved the last point.
You could add: *destroying one of the best 3D MMORPG ever, with expansions that set the bases for the start of the decline of the whole MMO genre (EQ) *shamelessly using the lore of your game to sell pizza to your players (EQ2)

I support this tread. I mean wtf? Does SOE have a special team working with: How to piss off/drive off our customers?

I support this thread and the OP, HOWEVER, being able to order pizza online is a good thing. Now make it come with a 6 pack and we're on to something. |

It is, to my mind, a defendable proposition that an MMO sequel to an MMO is a bad idea. Certainly EQ2 did not pan out well. Neither Blizzard or Square-Enix have done this yet (FFXIV will be an MMO sequel to an MMO, but it's still two years in the future. We'll have to wait and see if it was a bad idea). Lineage II was a mixed success; it never hit the original Lineage's peak and currently, Lineage and Lineage II combined are below the peak figure of Lineage II. |

pulling eq devs off eq to work on freerealms (SOE) takeing money from eq development to use to develop legends of norath and free realms ( SOE) denying subscribers their subscription rate.then after fixing it denying customers their subscription rate claming its their banks fault.( SOE) "Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." — Robert E. On a side note, does anyone remember the website "The Cackling Klaknak"? God I miss that website. "There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain." |
