I'm going back to Firefox 3.1. This 3.5 version does seem to be faster when it works but when it doesn't pages never load. It's not worth the boredom and frustration of repeatedly hitting F5 to try to get a page to load.

Edit: Now that I've tried a couple of things it appears to be an incompatiblilty between FF 3.5 and NoScript. With NoScript disabled Firefox 3.5 seems to be working properly.

I spoke too soon. While NoScript exacerbates my issues with FireFox 3.5 disabling NoScript it has not improved page loading enough to keep the 3.5 version.

Or you could just use opera, problem solved.

I tried Opera for a few days, and just didn't like it. Firefox is the way to go if you ask me. One feature which I just cant live without, which Opera does not have (or didnt at the time) was to type what you are looking for in the address bar, and the page comes up. Now, true, Opera will send you to a Google search for it, but that is not what I mean. If I type in "eve wiki", it will open up the actual EVE wiki site. If I type "wowhead assassin's blade", it will come up with the Assassin's Blade item on wowhead. If I type "wikipedia mmorpg" it will pop up with the wikipedia entry for mmorpg's. It is a massive time saver, and is great when you know about what you are looking for, but dont know the address.

You can make your own search strings in opera, such as: g <something> will find "<something>" from google. Opera is really versatile browser once you know how to use it.

Those are search strings though, VERY different. If I type wikipedia, Firefox goes directly to wikipedia.org. No need to type anything else. You are not using it right, for example the string for wikipedia is "w". You can find and edit the strings in preferences under search tab.

You do see how amazingly limited that is, correct? That is only for searching. Not for actually finding a webpage. If a new MMO called... Starsearch comes out, and I have never been to it's website before, and just want to go there, I will be able to type "Starsearch online" and BAM, there is there website. However, there doesn't seem to be a link to their forums on the page. So, I type "Starsearch online forums", and BAM, up comes the forums. However, I need a collection of information, because no one is answering my questions on the forums. So I type in "Starsearch online wiki", and BAM, up comes the wiki.

You see? I don't need to search for anything, and I don't need to know anything to use it. Your solution with Opera still makes you decide which site you are going to search, and then only works if that site has a search feature. And that is assuming that I even wanted to search. No need to search an MMO website. You just want the site.

Hell, lets say I go out, and buy some shrimp. I then get home, and see that they still have the shell on... Son of a bitch... Ok, lets learn how to peel one. Open up Firefox, type "how to peel a shrimp" in the address bar, hit enter, and up pops http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/how_to_peel_and_devein_shrimp/. And on about my way I go.

Firefox has the same quick search setup so I know what you mean but I think the behavior he's looking for is typing in the address bar your terms and going directly to a relevant page without implicitly using google.

What's actually happening when you do this though is Firefox does a google search behind the scenes with a couple parameters switched in the search string that makes it follow 'I'm feeling lucky' on google. So what you have to do to replicate that in Opera would be to change the google keyword search or default address bar search to:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=%s

You may have to leave the %s off, I don't use Opera myself so I'm not sure how they format their quick search strings. There's too many Firefox addons I need that I don't think exist for Opera.. if they do I'd gladly switch, only thing keeping me away from Opera or Chrome are the addons I use.

P.S. if you want to see where this behavior is defined in Firefox type 'about:config' in the address bar and scroll down to 'keyword.url'

Site searching works with some sites, I'm not actually sure how it works and why doesn't it find some sites. The wiki search works just as you described with "w starsearch online".

Yeah, like I said, I just didn't know how it was done. Noscript is the only addon I miss with opera, everything else it kinda has already.
 

But don't get me wrong, I'm not just opera use, I use 3 browsers simultaneously for different purposes, opera, ff and chrome iron.

Oh I got it kinda wrong. Anyway, I answered to multiple search strings earlier and noquarter explained and gave a solution for it.
 

Cool I decided to try out the new Opera and I really like it, seems to balance the slickness of Chrome while still giving you all the tools of Firefox.

To change the search bar to work the way you want was pretty easy, click Tools -> Preferences -> Search; Add; Name the search and keyword what you want (I did 'Google direct', keyword 'gd').

Copy and paste this into 'Address:'
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=%s

Then check 'Use as default search engine.'

This will make the address bar work just like Firefox's, and take you directly to the most relevant page - and you don't have to use the keyword since you made it the default.

Nice, that actually does work. I am not a big tinkerer, and since Firefox has it right out of the box, I just liked Firefox better. Now if only Opera was accepted to work at my net bank, and some other sites... Kind of sucks that some places are IE and Firefox only.

Thank lazy coders for that. IE is the main reason why site makers don't follow the standards, opera has been always very strict to follow them.
 

Imo opera has pretty much everything you need out of the box, adblocking need little more knowledge and effort to set up but you can use the same list than with firefox.
